MacDonald Botley Park Hotel & Spa is praised for its strategic location, offering guests easy access to nearby cities and attractions amidst scenic views. However, guests have called out the need for improved service, describing it as slow and disorganized. While some appreciate the cleanliness and spaciousness of the rooms, many reviewers find them outdated and in need of renovation.
The hotel's value is frequently questioned, with criticisms aimed at the high costs of food, drinks, and spa services. Additionally, the ambiance is considered lackluster and the spa amenities, such as pools and saunas, often disappoint.

Detailed Reviews
Like a previous reviewer I was concerned by the mixed reviews on various platforms. We booked a good value two night break with dinner and breakfast. I am pleased to say our stay was pretty good. My email to book a table for dinner was answered promptly and when we arrived at around one o’clock and our room was ready.
The room was a little tired and the grouting in the bathroom and window lock definitely needed attention, but the room was clean and spacious, bed comfortable, good quality of towels, toiletries and tea tray items. We had sufficient teabags and milks, which were replenished. The bathroom was fine, water hot, plenty of toilet roll and the bath, toilet and shower worked normally.
We enjoyed basic dinners of prawn cocktails, haddock and chips, chicken etc, the restaurant was clean and service good. I feel that the price levels need reviewing in the restaurant, the food choice is understandably quite limited at present and whilst tasty and well presented not innovative or inspiring. We found breakfast fine, the ladies serving were kept very busy but no major delays, we had tea, coffee, bacon sandwiches and croissants which were all good, the choice for fresh fruit could have been better.
The bar prices were in line with other similar hotels and we did not use any pool or spa facilities.
This hotel does need to address maintenance issues and needs some modernisation, more sockets, usb ports in rooms for a start. But, for the price we paid, our stay was more than acceptable and, without exception, all staff we encountered were polite and helpful.

Just back from a 4 night stay and was a little concerned after having read previous reviews, however there was no need. From being greeted at reception and have our room upgraded, until the time we left all staff were extremely helpful and courteous even during these difficult times. There are plenty of hand sanitising areas and all staff wore masks while serving drinks and food. You are also encouraged to wear masks while in public areas whilst walking around the hotel.
We had booked in for bed, breakfast and evening meal and although the menu was the same for the days we were there there was plenty of choice and the food was excellent.
If you do wish to use the Spa or swimming pool during your stay maybe advisable to book them when you book your stay - understandably due to COVID there are restrictions on the amount of people able to use them at one time.
I would definitely use this Hotel again and highly recommend it to others either for a short stay or longer.

I read some terrible reviews about this hotel, so would like to share my experience for anyone unsure.
We stayed here for my daughters 2nd birthday at peppa pig world.
We arrived and checked in, in the evening. They give you a peppa pig colouring book which my daughter was delighted with. Everyone was wearing masks including guests and all rooms had stickers on the doors when they had been cleaned and sterilised so you know no one else had been in.
Our room was perfect, really spacious very clean, the carpet is slightly dated and some stains but clean.
The bathroom was spotless the cleaners had done a fantastic job in there, not a mark beautiful and even folded the toilet roll into a shape, some lovely touches.
The bed was unbelievably comfortable very high up and there was a smaller bed for my daughter which she loved.
There’s Coffee and tea in the room. Great blackout curtains we got a lovely nights sleep, it’s perfect if your out and about all day and want somewhere comfy to sleep!
Breakfast was fine, you book it when you arrive, it’s like a mini full English breakfast, but I did hear others asking for more and they gladly offered more, but was enough for us, we ordered pastries too and you get plenty! I would say watch your kids by the window as it opens from the bottom so could drop things out of the window but Overall very Happy with our stay, nice staff who will help with anything! Would stay again when going to peppa pig world!

This was the third time we’d stayed at this hotel so we were expecting good things. I’ve left good feedback before.
Upon arrival we checked in ok, though payment was card only and we weren’t told this before arrival.
Our room, a deluxe super family room was average, at best. The curtains were coming off the tracks and the room looked tired. There was a used plastic water bottle left by a previous occupant under a chair, which indicates cleaning wasn’t very thorough.
We had one big bed and two camp beds but room was tight. No view. We only had two of everything - tea cups, glasses, water, biscuits, tea bags, milk etc provided even though there were four of us. The television was faulty and a member of staff had to attend to correct it. On the plus side, the shower was good and the main bed very comfortable.
We were booked in to use the swimming pool at 4pm. Upon arrival the whole ladies changing area was full of used towels which had just been abandoned in piles. Another lady complained about this, bearing in mind the COVID precautions, and one of the spa staff came and scooped them up and took them away, but the seating area wasn’t disinfected. There was no toilet roll. We counted 14 people in the pool, which was far too many to socially distance, and again it felt unsafe in the humid atmosphere.
The public area doors were covered in fingerprints and we saw no evidence of cleaning at all of these areas in the whole three days.
We visited the Sports Bar to buy drinks and snacks to keep the children going, but there were no snacks.
The restaurant menu was extortionate for a family of four so we headed into Botley for dinner.
Breakfast was manic. I assumed that it wouldn’t be too busy as we were given time slots but the staff were rushed off their feet. Hand cleaning stations were dotted around public areas but no one seemed to be using them. A bottle of gel at the entrance to the restaurant might work better.
Upon checkout I was told to put my door key in a box. No ‘thank you’, ‘safe journey’ etc. The staff morale didn’t seem good.
Having just reopened after the pandemic I would have hoped everything would be spot on, but there is some way to go. I feel for the leisure industry right now, but the current situation surely means that the hotel should get it right, and our stay was far from it. Shame.

This is the first time we had stayed at this hotel and came across it by accident, and we are very glad we did!
Always visit friends at this time of year and this hotel was so competitively priced. The rooms were very spacious and comfortable with everything you needed, free wifi, ample parking and all you could wish for breakfast included in the price! Add on top the use of a pool and spa it more than exceeded our expectation for the price we paid.
Staff were very friendly and helpful, and following a treatment in the spa would like to say how lovely Alice the beautician was and what an asset she is to the team!
Will definitely be staying there again!

Although my own fault for not checking before hand there were lots of children here. Stupidly, the swimming times for children's swim are 15:00 onwards so that means no child free swim time as check-in was from 15:00. Children in the pool throwing paper cups about and balls...yeah a great relaxing stay!
Food was average, glad it was included in the stay as it was overpriced, along with the drinks.
Breakfast itself was nice but it was more like an all you can eat buffet, tables weren't cleared so there was leftovers and dirtys plates on almost all the tables surrounding us from when we sat to when we left.
Room is outdated, I had a plaster stuck to my foot that had been left by another guest..great! Dont know what the luxury elemis toiletries are as we had a very small shower gel and soap between myself and my husband. Room was ridiculously hot and stuffy even with the radiator off. Opened the window and it was so noisy outside with towels in cages being dragged across the floor.
From when I arrived to when I left there were numerous cages of towels left outside uncovered for everyone to see.
Afternoon tea was massively overpriced! £39 for 8 finger sandwiches, 2 scones, some supermarket diddy donuts, 2 triangles of brownie and 1 homemade cupcake to share.
Staff have been very polite throughout the visit though.
Overall I will not be returning.

Arrived to a clean room and easy check in process. Ordered fish and chips to the bar during the afternoon and a pint of beer totalling £22. The mushy peas were dry, fish was good, but not what I expected for £15. £7 for a beer with a dash of lime was extortionate and the top 3 inches was foam. Had work to do and returned late, room service menu advised hot food was available until 11pm, I ordered chips and a cheeseboard, no hot food was available and they had ran out of cheese? This was before 10pm. I settled for a ham sandwich (£8.00 pictured) and a beer. I was expecting a good handmade sandwich for £8.00 however I was disappointed. Good for budget rooms but dont expect much in terms of food and drink.

I know we are in turbulent times but c'mon, we are still paying to stay! In general all was okay, however, the food choice has been cut to just the bar menu which has very limited choice and wasn't particularly well cooked. Breakfast cooked to order which was a good move. Hand sanitizer bottles (when they were there) were empty as was the dispenser in the entrance. Room was okay, WiFi was strong. Hopefully next time I stay all will be well in the world

We stayed here two nights in July after they re-opened, and quite frankly it was two nights to many. I know they had only opened two weeks before we stayed but seemed to use COVID-19 as excuse for everything. The breakfast was a small packed breakfast, I had bacon and eggs muffin, the bacon was like cardboard. I asked for a orange juice with my breakfast and to my amazement was told that it was £3.50 when normally it was inclusive if you pay for B&B. Asked for a coffee, was told to use the ones in room. The fridge in the room wasn’t working nor was extractor fan in bathroom. My wife complained and was told they turned some electrics off, but wouldn’t do anything about it. We went out for the day and come back to find the room wasn’t made up. The hotel was very quiet. Only 15 guests in so shouldn’t be any excuse. We definitely won’t be staying here again!!!!!!!!!

I'm not one to complain but I was so disappointed with my recent stay at Botley Park I felt I had to say something.
I know the world has changed in regards to Covid-19 but our stay at Botley Park on the 23rd & 24th of July was terrible.
First the breakfast was probably the worst I've every had in any hotel ever the choice was very limited and we had to have room service as the restaurant wasn't open for breakfast. So the muffin was straight out of a vending machine, our breakfast rolls were cold and I'd ordered egg and bacon and only got egg, the coffee didn't exist we had to have the coffee in the room with small pots of UHT milk enough for one cup each, the yogurt was ok but we were told we had to pay extra for fruit! all in all terrible so much so the we didn't order breakfast for the second night and went out to a garden centre instead. We also couldn't understand how people can have Dinner in the restaurant in the evening but we couldn't have a proper breakfast in there in the morning! Maybe Covid-19 is only in the restuarant in the morning. It felt like a money saving exercise.
The Spa wasn't open even thought the government had said they can open from the 24th I believe.
The room was small but comfortable and in need of decoration. It also overlooked a building site, not ideal.
I've stayed in quite a few Macdonalds Hotels but Botley Park was a real disappointment.

I don't recall seeing any vending machines, but you have the right idea this hotel is a shocker. We took our own food which was just as well as they wouldn't give us breakfast even though it was part of the deal !
I don't think there was which is disappointing.
This was not a major issue as the family break there was still a great success.
