I returned to the Leonardo Royal Southampton a year after my last stay to visit the nearby boat show. Check in time is quite late at 16:00 but I checked in online and received an email at 15:15 to say my room was ready. Lovely executive room with a balcony overlooking Southampton. Nice touches like a handwritten welcome note with chocolates on the bed and a Nespresso machine in addition to the kettle and tea/coffee facilities. Very comfortable bed and a very quiet room despite the hotel being full. Prompt, attentive service from the bar and they went above and beyond by fetching Worcestershire sauce to add to my guests tomato juice! I was delighted to see that the bar area has been decorated and the hotel generally was looking more loved with signs of investment. The pool and spa area has also been decorated and was generally looking smarter. It is great that the pool is open from 06:30 to allow a swim before breakfast. The breakfast buffet in Leo's was excellent with a good range of food available. Plenty of freshly cooked hot items available for the full English with smiling, friendly staff toping items up as required. Congratulations to the management for all your efforts in these difficult times for the hospitality industry, these are certainly paying off. I hope that those who have had a less positive experience than me will give you another try. I will certainly be back.

A good place to stay for walking across the cruise terminal and located in the old part of Southampton. buffet breakfast and a bit of a wait for poached eggs. However, £16 for 2 pints of lager is a ridiculous price.....!

The service and helpfulness received from the staff at leonardo was first class and very welcoming, we arrived at 9am for an overnight stay with an extra 7 nights parking whilst we cruised.... our bags were taken in immediately where we received a slip to reclaim them we were told our parking space was available, so we could leave to spend the day around Southampton.. we checked in at 2pm and all was as expected, having a night cap at the bar proved expensive, but not unexpected, retiring to a nice room where we could see the berth from... after a great night's sleep, a lovely breakfast was had in a relaxed and bright restaurant.. a taxi was booked and again our bags placed in storage to allow us to spend the morning around the harbour and town, out taxi was prompt and the berth of our ship just about a mile away, all went very well. Will definitely stay again and use the cruise parking! Recommended and a big thankyou to the staff. You were all very helpful!

It is rare to stay in a hotel where every single member of staff are so delightful and helpful. Nothing was too much trouble for any member of staff. I was so impressed with their positive friendly attitude. Joe at concierge, the reception and restaurant staff. If you are looking for somewhere to stay it’s worth staying here as the delightful staff really do the utmost to make your stay as comfortable as possible. Well done!

We overnighted at the hotel prior to a recent cruise sailing out of Southampton. Close by the port as well as the nearby historic old town and its Town Walls, the hotel was perfectly located for us. The room was spacious and comfortable, the restaurant and bar were great and the staff — especially the concierge — were very helpful.

We stayed overnight for the international boat show. Staff were helpful and professional. The rooms were clean ,spacious and well equipped. Bar and restaurant prices were reasonable and service was very good. Only downside was that pool and jacuzzi were out of service but has a well equipped gym. We had read some poor reviews before we went but honestly we did not find any reason to support these poor reviews.

I attended a conference at the hotel over the weekend. While the staff were lovely and friendly and helpful, the kitchen clearly needs a good talking-to. When I'd registered for the conference, I had informed the organisers about my gluten allergy and I know that they would have notified the hotel of this, because they have done so with other venues in the past. Unfortunately, the kitchen doesn't appear to have a grasp on cooking for those with a gluten intolerance. While the sandwiches on the bar menu had the option to be made with GF bread, that was about it. Pretty much everything on the bar menu contained gluten. Luckily, I'd bought some GF crackers so was able to have a sandwich filling with my crackers. I left the crisps because there was no indication they were GF. As I was staying at another hotel (because this place was way above my pay grade), I didn't have to eat breakfast there. While everyone else was able to tuck into cookies and pastries during the morning break, those of us who couldn't were provided with fruit scones, although the jam and butter didn't appear until the end of the break. Lunch was...well. Other attendees were offered a choice of spaghetti bolognaise or curry and rice. We were provided with hockey pucks which may or may not have been fishcakes, with some cheese, which had oozed out and burned to black rubber. No sauce or anything to make these more palatable. Pudding was that old GF stand-by...fruit salad. The fruit salad also made a reappearance during the afternoon tea break, while everyone else got pastries/cookies. By the time coffee break rolled around the next day, the hotel had clearly abandoned the idea of providing anything for the GF folk altogether. Considering the hotel proudly proclaims it has a Marco Pierre White restaurant, you'd think there'd be some effort made to provide decent food across the board; This was my first time attending this conference after my coeliac diagnosis. I was left feeling like a second-class citizen, not worth catering for. Do better. I'm not avoiding gluten by choice.

Dear madeditor, Thank you so much for taking time leaving us a review in regards to your last visit with us. We are happy to hear all your lovely comments about our staff. Your feedback has already been passed to appropriate departments as we are looking for any opportunity of improving our services daily. As a matter of fact, recently Marco Pierre White introduced a new, fresh menu with many GF options in mains, salads and deserts which is very popular among our guest. We are really sorry to hear that was not the case for you. We would like to clarify though that Conferences are not catered by Marco Pierre White.(Venue is provided by Marco Pierre White but there is another catering provider) We take any intolerance seriously into consideration and we are in process of adding many more choices for our guests. However we are more than happy to share all the above feedback for any future references. Saying that, we would like to invite you to visit us in the near future for having a tasting experience at Marco Pierre White . We are very certain our F&B team will be able to assist you by offering a variety of GF meals and reverse any previous unpleasant taste experience you may had. Kind Regards, Anastasia Petridou Guest Relations Manager

Having had a change of plans at very short notice, I arrived at this hotel with an extra guest - a 6-year-old who I'd had to bring along as childcare had blobbed at the very last minute. Was this a problem for the hotel, not one bit! Instead of asking for more money, the first thing the reception staff asked was whether we needed housekeeping to put an extra bed in the room! This wonderful attention to detail and real care for their guest was followed throughout the whole of my stay, which was for a book conference. As a permanently disabled person who uses crutches to walk, they couldn't have gone out of their way to make my stay any easier. The food at both the bar and in the main restaurant was superb, plenty of it and not too expensive, the hotel was spotlessly clean, the staff all friendly and there was complementary drinks, fresh fruit, cakes, biscuits, muffins and crisps in reception, which was a lovely area to spend time waiting for friends. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this hotel to anyone visiting Southampton, it's also surrounded by loads of other things to see and places to visit and eat.

We book in to this Hotel before our honeymoon cruise. We had stayed there in 2019 and it has gone down hill very much. First we had a mail saying our room was ready, we were given the keys and found people were already in the room ! Then we were moved to another room which was not prepared properly and was very noisy due to the road. The paint work was poor and then the shower door feel off and landed on my wife !! We visited the leisure club which is very tired and run down , I was quite shocked how bad it was. The staff however were good and tried to help, we we offered a room move but by the time we had gone out to eat there was no point. The duty manager sent up a bottle of wine to our room and she did try to be helpful but this is no way a 4 star hotel. It is tired and the organisation is poor. There must be many better hotels than this in the area. Thankyou to the staff for trying to sort things, but you can only play the hand you have.
