Bringing my 93 year old mum, I was delighted to see the spacious room and accessible bathroom. We loved both our room and the common areas which had the feel of an upmarket backpackers. The aspect is lovely, overlooking a quiet street and park, with lots of light coming in the big windows. This used to be a noisy road and a scruffy park in the most polluted part of the city, but thanks to the traffic being rerouted it has been transformed and is now a beautiful part of historical Southampton.
We loved the books, particularly the ones on the liners, as we come from a seafaring family. It was great we could take them to our room, and we loved having a friend over with a takeaway curry from Everest restaurant nearby. God's House Tower is nearby and definitely worth visiting.... we spent hours there at various events. Will definitely come back to stay, even though we live in Southampton!

There was a lot to like about this hotel and we’ll start with the concept. The rooms are small, pretty, studio apartments. With a neat little kitchen and a sofa to sit on, they were somewhere to enjoy on a rainy weekend, providing far more than a bed for the night. I booked the larger option and the room size was good for a family, the kitchen was well equipped with a dishwasher and I was so grateful to have dining table to feed the kids at.

There were fluffy towels, big full height windows to let in plenty of light and the view of the park. The amazing shower and the excellent shampoo were heavenly. Soundproofing was good and we slept well. You can get coffee and play board games in the cafe area downstairs. There’s even a tiny gym and a launderette.

It wasn’t perfect however. The mezzanine bed is horribly claustrophobic, with a concrete ceiling inches from your face. I know this, because that bed couldn’t be used by the kids. The steps - pretty much a vertical ladder - were way too dangerous for them to navigate. Whoever gets this bed gets a second rate mattress too, it’s nowhere near as comfy as the downstairs bed which was only a small double, rather than the advertised kingsize. Twin beds on the lower floor in the large empty space under the ladder / stairs would have been a far better option for families. Expecting the kids to share a bed in a family room is a tall order anyway. They kick each other all night and no one gets any peace.

It’s perhaps not a great place for lone travellers or anyone feeling vulnerable, simply because the key cards never once worked on the outside doors of the hotel (everyone staying had the same issue). Every time we went outside, we had to ring the bell and wait to be let back in. On top of this, the corridors to the rooms feel unsafe and are poorly lit with no visibility round corners. The colour scheme of black and red makes them extra dingy.

The staff were amazing, all really friendly and helpful. The later checkout makes for a relaxing atmosphere too. On balance, I think this is all a great idea and I would love to see it slightly tweaked to make it even more comfortable. More of these hotels everywhere please, with better sleeping arrangements for families.

Basically if Google created a hotel this would be it. Very informal and friendly, I was made to feel genuinely welcome. Room was modern clean full of amusing quirky stuff including a box of bits and bobs that might come in useful. The lounge area was very relaxing looking over the park with games books and a 24hr coffee bar/bar and snacks available. Check in was 2pm and check out was 2pm the next day which was brilliant allowing me a lie in and time to do a bit of work before setting off. Superfast free WiFi and a great workspace in my room even cooked my own breakfast then putting all the stuff in the dishwasher. Will be using again without hesitation. Only one slight downside, which is not really the fault of the hotel is the lack of parking and having to leave my car off site at extra cost. I guess I missed the memo on booking a space in advance.

Stayed here for 4 nights during a short break to Southampton. First impressions of the hotel were good - staff seemed helpful and friendly and the reception area was air conditioned (important the week we went as it was a heatwave!). One of the reasons we booked this hotel was the feeling it was COVID secure from the website and the location.

Upon arrival, although we thought no room key would be needed and we could use our phone instead, we were told by staff the app was temperamental and a key would be best. The reception area seemed very clean, as were the lifts and corridor spaces. The room, however, I'm not sure if I had higher expectations due to COVID, but there were a couple of hairs in the bathroom that I noticed, as well as feather on the kitchen floor and a couple of the bowls were not clean. I arrived with the expectation of giving the place a once over myself anyway, but I was hoping for a little more. Good things about the room were the layout/size was good, the bed was comfortable and the air conditioning was cold (to start with at least).

On night 3, the air conditioning in the room didn't feel as cold. We thought it may be due to it being so warm outside or maybe getting a little sunburnt during the day that day, but the next day it still wasn't cold. We asked at reception about it and they informed us there had been some issues with the aircon, they would do a master reset of it and then to WhatsApp them if it still wasn't cold in 10 minutes. 10 minutes later, the room still wasn't cold. Sent a message, as I was told, and I had no reply. I wouldn't have minded a "unfortunately we can't do anything more tonight, the engineer has been called for tomorrow", but we had nothing. So we lost hope of customer service at this stage.

The shower (even on the coldest setting) was hotter than I would usually have a shower in the winter to warm up, so was quite uncomfortable having such a hot shower in the summer. There is no way a child could have showered in that bathroom, it would have been far too hot. The power of the shower, however, was good.

The breakfast bags were good and were a good start to the day.

Overall, although the location of this hotel was good and there were some good points, we would not stay at this hotel again due to some of the issues we had above.

We had high hopes after a quick contactless check in and nice modern looking room but problems soon became apparent. The housekeepers never came to make up our room (7 night stay) so when enviably the bed sheets came loose, I tried to tuck them back in myself which is when I noticed the terrible stains on the mattress/duvet. The shower controls were out of place so the ‘off’ section was actually the shower head etc. And the temperature dial was either boiling hot or freezing cold.
The kettle was broken and never replaced having been reported, a whole week of Microwaved tea wasn’t quite what we had in mind.
The bathroom sink wasn’t draining so we removed the plug and it was blocked with hair and scum that smelled awful.
The whole bathroom smelt damp and of drains.
The air on system made some very loud cluncking sounds on the odd occasion.
The dishwasher needed to have a dining chair propped infront of it to keep the door closed so it would work.
We enjoyed the idea of the hotel but the room was not clean and problems were not solved.

We stayed here for the weekend. We came down to watch the Newcastle/Southampton match and couldn’t fault our room at all! Everything we could need was in the room, the provided shampoo/conditioner were amazing, the room heated very quickly, the bits and bobs box is a really nice touch that I’ve never seen in any other hotels. The staff (roommates) were friendly and helpful. Parking was £12 a night but there is no where to park near by so does have to paid. We would definitely stay here again it was a very pleasant weekend away.

Kitchenette, laundry facilities and loft bed plus proximity to New Forest make this good location for families who come by car. Overlooking a small park .On street parking is cheap in daytime and free overnight (8pm til 8am).Wi-fi was reliable .TV signal sometimes died but you can cast from own device. Staff were friendly. Place had a calm, relaxed feel.

My partner and I,plus our Dog stayed here over the late May bank holiday weekend in one of the Lounge rooms. We had a fantastic stay, and cannot recommend Room2 Southampton enough.
The room was spacious, immaculately clean and had everything we needed for a 2 night stay. We were able to cook a hot breakfast in the well equipped kitchen, the bed was very comfortable and the bathroom had a great quality shower and complimentary toiletries.
The communal downstairs bar/seating area was a lovely place to relax and we spent a lot of time their enjoying the well stocked bar and snacks. It was popular with other guests too but never felt busy, and kept its relaxed friendly atmosphere.
The general manager Michelle and her staff who were on shift during our stay,Rhys and Stacey were incredibly helpful, friendly and professional throughout our stay and went above and beyond to make our stay as best an experience as possible.
We are looking forward to staying again soon, and will always return here whenever we stay in Southampton and area going forward.

A/C was the highlight of the stay during the heatwave. Location and parking are perfect. Covid restrictions were in place so we haven’t had any interaction with staff. Most amenities are closed and no breakfast in the restaurant or room service (except for morning breakfast boxes for 6£). Linens are not changed and rooms are not cleaned daily during stay unless requested by guests. Check in/ out were smooth with no issues and with minimal staff interaction. All in all I recommend staying here.

Staycation with the mrs, fantastic quality. Very clean. Its branded as hometel and marketing the flexibility and amenity of Airbnb but the security and hassle free aspect of a hotel. Our room was equipped with a kitchenette with sink, hob and dishwasher. Lovely walk in shower. Comfortable bed. Very clean. Parking outside the hotel is £1 an hour (the hotel car park was full). Great location to both town and ocean Village. Faultless

We had great weather when we left - and new luggage with good 'wheels'. You do have to cross a major street but there are lots of crossing opportunities with cross-walks and lights. It wasn't a bad walk at all and we are in our 70's. If it were raining then taking a cab is worth it.

We had a family room with king bed and futon. The bathtub had grab bars but none by the toilet. The configuration didn’t allow anywhere to put grab bars.
