This hotel is as in a good location for guests travelling by train, station 5 minutes walk and for those driving as there is free car parking. There is a bus stop very nearby to take you into Central Bournemouth. The rooms are tired but perfectly adequate for a base , Breakfast is limited but fine. The staff we found were "Old School" both friendly and efficient. Compared with other hotels we thought it was good value. Yes it does need modernising but there is a long standing application submitted by one of Harry Redknapps sons to pull it down and built flats. this has been ongoing for some time with a large number of local residents lodging objections. Until this is resolved one way or another there is understandably no chance of spending money on updating the Elstead Hotel. we enjoyed our stay here and if it is still open would return her again ext year

If you're a fan of 80's nostalgia, then you'll love the decor. The hotel looks a little tired and past it's best, but it's very clean with comfortable beds, plenty of free onsite parking and the service was impeccable from check-in to check-out.

Breakfast was very basic with not much selection, but can't really complain at the very reasonable price we paid.

Great location, great service and a great price. Wouldn't hesitate to stay here again if I'm in the area.

We stayed in the Elstead for two nights (Friday and Saturday night) in a standard room. The room and amenities were clean and well presented, although the room was quite small and missing a couple of basics, such as a coat hook and very limited sideboard space, with small dressing table which also held the TV (no bigger than 20") , kettle with tea/coffee making facilities, not leaving much space for anything else. A note for those with longer hair - the hairdryer was very old style blower screwed to the wall which would take an age to dry hair which is shoulder length or more.

This being said, we paid a very reasonable price, so not marked down for this, as was a clean and serviceable room.

The pool and gym area was a good size and well attended. I noted regular cleaning and the hairdryers in the ladies changing area were much better than the room.

We only knocked off one point from the rating as although a weekend stay, there was no offer of food for the evening on the Saturday. We appreciate there were limited number of guests and the hotel advised we could order a takeaway in, but would have to eat this in our room, which wasn't ideal as only had the bed to sit on - to be offered one of the various rooms downstairs would have been a nicer option.

Overall nice hotel, the staff were very welcoming and overall very nice hotel experience.

Currently still here but unable to sleep due to room being so hot just as well write this now.
Booked 2 rooms for a week, one is a twin and a very good size other is a double which is tiny to say the least. Thankfully for the twin room as that was only place to store suitcases as there wasn’t any space on floor besides where you walk in door and just enough space to walk around bed. This really should be called a small single room.
Arrived on Saturday before so called “freedom day” and hotel had all the standard covid restrictions in place.

Breakfast
Sunday and Monday was very good all served to you.
Tuesday they reverted to pre pandemic “free for all” which was a bit of a surprise as they were asking guests to wear masks around hotel which is fine but doesn’t make sense then allowing everyone up to the all you can eat buffet with everyone touching the same utensils over and over again (there were no sanitation gels etc available), also a bit disturbing that not until 9:50am just as breakfast was about to finish that they then decided to put on aircon as the previous 2 days there were doors and windows open but today everything shut up (well it was only 25 degrees) let’s hope for better tomorrow

Bar
Is ok with limited available, they need to check their bottle stock though as best before wary 2020 is over a year out of date

Staff
All very friendly and working hard from what I can see

Location
10-15 minutes from main restaurants and shops one way and same other way to beach (via zig zag down cliff side)

Hotel is very clean but extremely dated and in urgent need of some TLC
Not sure as is who they are looking to cater for as not set up for older guests as facilities are not here, and younger guests too dated so leaves families but then with rooms this small won’t get many returns?

The standards compared to 12 months ago have dropped to an unacceptable level. Rooms are cleaned only every second day. The restaurant no longer functions except for breakfast. Bar meals from a very limited menu are offered in the evenings. The temperature of the shower in our room could not be controlled. This was reported and no action taken by the hotel. The double glazed units in our room had ‘blown’. Our booking was for dinner, bed and breakfast and were incorrectly charged for dinner on the last evening only to be offered a partial refund and a ver grudging apology by an officious member if staff on reception. There appears to be a distinct reluctance to communicate changes to dining and housekeeping in advance of or even on arrival. We have used this hotel on an annual basis since 2002 and we’re totally shocked to find such a poor standard was allowed to exist. Overall a very tired hotel in much need of refurbishment and repairs and a return to its former standards of service and hospitality.

The Elstead cannot be described as a luxury hotel but if that was what is wanted younwould need to pay considerably more in the area. Our room was a good size, clean with a settee, for WiFi and tea and coffee making facilities. Two smalll negatives a tiny Televion about a 15 inch screen and poor bed pillows The bathroom was modern with bath and a shower attachment. Hot water. Breakfast had a limited choice was basic but adequate. One big plus point free parking. Bournemouth Station is about a 8 minute walk away. There is regular bus service every 10 minutes into Centre Bournemouth which takes 5 minutes. We enjoyed our stay here

As solo travellers will know, we pay extra for the 'privilege' of pokey rooms under the stairs. Not so at the Elstead. The single room (215 I think) was airy, spacious and full of light. The large bathroom was spotless. The room was at the end of a corridor so well away from the lifts and quiet. The hotel staff were very helpful and cheerful. The lounge was beautiful. I can't comment on the pool as I'd forgotten my swimmers! I'd very much recommend this hotel. You can catch the bus route 1 on Christchurch Road to the high street and to the beach if you don't want to walk.

Not the best reception a bit grumpy.
Entire hotel in need of refurbishment, dirty windows throughout.
Our room had broken bathroom floor tiles,a shower with very little pressure, and a broken celing fan, creaky floors, tv was a joke( could hardly be seen).
No fire exit procedures in rooms.
Pool was way over chlorinated and gym requires upgrading.
Very dodgy part of Bournemouth, didn't feel safe at night to walk around, with sketchy people everywhere.
Only plus was that it was relatively quiet during our stay and breakfast staff were polite, breakfast was OK.
In summary, avoid unless you can locate a premier inn or travelodge fir stay, at least they are of an acceptable standard.
I think this applies to most hotels in Bournemouth looking at their exteriors though, when driving around. Also the western part of Bournemouth looks much better, nice cafes etc towards poole,if you can locate a hotel there???.

We had a two night break booked for a Friday and Saturday. Upon our arrival we honestly wasn’t sure what to make of The Elstead Hotel. The hotel is very very run down. It is in need of a lot of love and attention. Once inside staff at reception was friendly and helpful. Explained where our room was, leisure facilities and WiFi (even tho that didn’t work).
Once in our room it was very very small. Marks on the walls, very dated, hairs on the bed, stains on the valence sheet, mattress was rock hard and the pillows thin. The tv worked well just a bit too small. Hairdryer didn’t work. There was a constant glow of light that came from under and around the door from the corridor light. Which being a small room the glow of light was on the right side of the bed on to the pillow.
The bathroom was slightly larger But had a few cracked tiles and a stain on the side of bath. Shower gel, soap and shampoo in bottles used by previous guests. Luckily we had our own.
Every floor board creaks in the room, corridors and especially the stairs. Trying to be quiet is impossible. You can hear the other rooms talking, walking through the building, you can hear when they use water or turn on the fans for the bathroom.
The bar was empty only one other couple in there. The chairs was dusty furniture old and dated but staff was very friendly once again.
Parking facilities are good a fair amount of spaces.
On our second night we came back to find a coach load of teenagers had arrived at 22.45. To our delight they had been placed around our room on the same floor as us. So for the next 3 hours we had lots of waking up and down, shouting and talking. No heads up from reception when speaking to them earlier in the day. We have stayed in Bournemouth before this was our second time. We have previously stayed in the West Cliff area and if I’m honest I will be going back that way next time. If someone asked me where was a good place to stay this wouldn’t be top my list. Staff are incredibly friendly and helpful, it’s a shame as this hotel has so much potential but clearly the owners no longer care.

This hotel needs to be closed immediately. We stayed for two nights and if it wasn’t for the fact that I payed when booking we would have left straight away. Breakfast was a joke, advertised as full English or continental. Full English was powdered scrambled eggs, sausage and bacon and that was it. Continental was a croissant. My wife could only have toast. The bar, what bar? No draught beers only bottles and no decent wines. The inside and outside of the hotel is terrible, everything needs updating and renewing. The outside hasn’t seen a gardener for years and the inside hasn’t seen a decorator for decades. Elstead you should take your website down and re do it telling the truth.
