The Cumberland Hotel garners commendation for its service, as guests often highlight the staff's professionalism and warmth. Situated in a prime spot, it offers easy access to the heart of Bournemouth and scenic sea views, though the walk can be a bit lengthy for some. While the hotel's rooms are generally praised for their cleanliness and comfort, a few travelers have pointed out issues with maintenance and noise. Opinions on value are divided, with guests appreciating the deals and meals but cautioning against hidden costs. Amenities like the pool are well-liked, but the decor's mix of Art Deco charm and outdated elements receives mixed reactions.

We stayed here for a night as a couple for a special birthday. I mentioned it briefly on the phone when confirming the booking and they paid attention to the detail and left a lovely card and free drinks vouchers in the room - very nice touch!
We were room 411 - seaview balcony room on top floor with incredible views and was very quiet. Very large room, ample storage, four poster huge bed (only thing was a very thin mattress).
We dined at Ventana restaurant which was delicious and felt very fancy. Reasonably priced. Only thing was last sitting was 8.30pm which we felt was a bit early.
We did not use the pool but it looked lovely (albeit the water looked a bit murky but we did see them cleaning it in the morning). Free pool towels available from reception.
Breakfast in Mirabelle restaurant was lovely, finished at 9.30am during the week. We arrived at 9.15, still lots of food and tables available and they were replenishing constantly. £14 if booked direct with hotel and booked during check in otherwise £15.99 on the day.
Location: on the east cliff zigzag, a bit far from town, however we were within 15 mins walk of some pubs and restaurants. Bus stop right outside the hotel.
Parking: free if booked with hotel (which we did) and we managed to find a space.
Recommend booking direct with hotel as you get the free parking and 10% off bar and restaurants.
Overall, lovely stay, we will be back!

We enjoyed a weekend here in April 2024 as part of a Masonic Ladies Weekend. Our corner room on the second floor was spacious with a very comfortable kig size bed . The staff were attentive and helpful and returned a silver lapel pin I lost on the Gala evening whilst dancing. The ballroom was set up in a stylish manner. This is the nicst hotel we have stayed in, in Bournemouth- it hails from the 1920s and is well appointed on an East Clifftop position with easy beach access nearby . The outdoor pool is large although a little cold in April. The large car park is available on a first come first served basis. We stayed an extra night . Fabulous breakfast in the Mirabelle restaurant and great dinner choices. The lounge was spacious and three seating areas to choose from . Large outdoor seating area too for the warmer months.

The friendly, helpful, courteous receptionist made us feel welcome when we checked in.
The Spring Special promotion for a Sunday night was great value.
Our spacious bedroom en-suite was comfortable with the extras like a kettle, tea, coffee & biscuits, a hairdryer & fan in the cupboard & toiletries in the shower room.

The dining area was quiet with only one table occupied at the time we were there for a self-service English breakfast.

When booking, if you are arriving by car, avoid parking charges by booking directly with Oceana Hotels.
The Cumberland Hotel has been a favourite Oceana Hotel in Bournemouth for many years, especially for meals at the Grand Ventana Restaurant (Sunday Roast, FIsh Pies, Pavlova's are favourites)

The Christmas functions that have been attended are of a high standard with excellent food & service over many years.

I’m going to give a very honest view of this hotel we traveled as a couple age 35 sometimes I think this information is very important.
We arrived about 11.30 not many parking spaces but did find one went to the desk the lady gave us all the information we needed took our card details ect. Told us the room would be ready around 3 we were welcome to use the facilities.
We had a drink by the pool and my husband booked afternoon tea for later that afternoon and we went for a walk. We walked into town and got a taxi back £5.20
When we got back to the hotel we headed to the pool area a manger almost jumped on us to asked if we were guests and our room number (I didn’t see him asked anyone else)
Pool was lovely the weather really made the weekend. Later that day we had afternoon tea was a very nice treat
Dinner was also nice on the Friday night the service was brilliant.
Saturday we had breakfast very nice lots of choice headed to the pool where you can’t jump in or have any glass round the pool. But this didn’t seem to stop one very large family they even played loud music. People did complain but nothing got done.
There was a wedding at the hotel a big birthday party and the hotel was sold out Saturday so was busy so Saturday nights dinner was in a different room to where we had Fridays night dinner would of been nice to have been told. Sat down was given the menu dated 8.9th this was the 9th I pointed that out the young girl quickly ran around grabbing everyone’s menus back we waited a while new menus
Food was good but took a while lots of time between courses
I pointed out my husband pudding didn’t have the ice cream that should of been with it off she went sometime later ice cream arrived.
The air con in our room gave up very late Saturday night. Sunday morning I was woke early about 6.45 to someone outside our door put a bill for car parking under the door. I don’t really understand the idea of that they take card details when you check in also in the restaurant if you have a drink or something extra on the food menu you have to pay it there and then before the food or drink comes it’s like your going to do a runner. Room was clean food was good and you can see the staff work very hard not to sure how they are so happy and polite working in full suits in a heat wave.
Parking is £12 a night you won’t find many you don’t pay for.

Dear pickle8866, We do value feedback, and we appreciate your fair and honest feedback. As the hotel is very popular, especially when good weather as the pool area is so welcoming. We have to monitor the area, as we get so many chance non-residents trying to gain access to the loungers. We are sorry if you felt 'jumped on', it was no the intention, and it may well be that we were aware of the other guests so no need to question. Your feedback will be discussed with the team, and will see how/where we can make relevant changes to improve for a better guest experience.

I had a 2 night break for my birthday and all I wanted was a peaceful break with a great view.
The hotel generally and my room (406) were excellent, the room has been recently refurbished and has a great bed with lovely soft carpet. The views from the balcony are amazing both day and night. There are 2 downsides to this room however, the doors in the corridor outside the room slam loudly if people use the wrong side (this could be easily fixed with a better sign on the door), and the adjoining internal door to room 408 allows almost everything to be heard between the rooms. I would also suggest the hotel put an absorbant mat on the new carpet inside the balcony door so guests don't walk from a potentially wet balcony floor (after rain) and soak or stain the carpet.

The restaurants and bar service was great although the food is a touch pricey but very tasty and well cooked.

The pool and patio area are nice with plenty of seating and tables although this whole area could do with a spring clean (jet wash) around the edges/sides/canopy and lots of replacement light bulbs!!

Every single member of staff was polite, friendly and willing to help you out. Some staff don't speak English well however the few words I know in Spanish meant that we could communicate without issue.

Now for 1 thing which I feel let's this place down, the 'face' of the hotel, seen by thousands of people daily. The white wash wall/balconies are heavily stained and needs repainting asap, I understand that's probably not cheap nor easy to do but it's literally the first impression to all. The 'Cumberland' sign also needs a couple of replacement bulbs.
The same can be said of the decking around the patio area, a repaint and a box of light bulbs are essential.

Overall I had an excellent stay and wished it was longer, I will definitely be returning when possible.

I would rate my stay as 9/10 as the only let down is really the exterior maintenance.

Thank you to all at The Cumberland hotel.

Stayed here 15th to 17th January on Dinner and Breakfast offer.

We had a 2 couse Dinner included on the first night and Breakfast included on the other days.

We were greeted by a friendly smile at Reception and were quickly checked in. We had booked a Sea View Room with Balcony. We had the most amazing view and even though it was January we were able to sit out on the balcony, with a cup of tea.

The Cumberland is a stunning, beautiful Art Deco hotel. Every corner you turned, you found something beautiful to look at. It is spotless and so clean.

Food -"We ate in the hotel Ventana Restaurant for lunch, snacks and evening meals and every single meal was delicious and of high quality - freshly prepared.

Drinks - We also had pre-dinner drinks as well as wine with our meals and they were very reasonably priced.

Service -: Every single member of staff was attentive, friendly and very welcoming. Nothing was too much trouble. They are a credit to the Cumberland Hotel.

We will definitely be returning to the Cumberland in the very near future. We absolutely loved our stay here.

Can’t rave about this hotel enough! We stay 1-2 times a year as it has become our favourite place to celebrate our birthdays and anniversaries. We always book a double balcony room and the views are absolutely breathtaking and the rooms are lovely and spacious. Hotel staff are always extremely friendly and helpful and we can’t thank everyone enough for always making our stays so lovely. Housekeeping are always very helpful and if we ever ask for extra towels or tea/coffee etc on the days we don’t need room service they are always quick to help us. There is one lady who works at reception most mornings-afternoon who has checked us in each time and always remembers us and she has made our stay exceptionally welcoming and lovely by always being so kind to us, she definitely deserves recognition for her brilliance! Hotel is always clean and an overall lovely atmosphere. It is located just a 15-20 minute walk from the beach, shops/town centre, gardens and bars & restaurants and it’s easy enough to get takeaway delivery to the hotel too so we never have to drive whilst we stay and if you book direct through the hotel you don’t pay parking either which is a huge saving. Overall I can’t fault the hotel, every hotel needs a lick of paint or a few touch ups but it doesn’t make it any less beautiful! We look forward to our next stay! Thank you as always guys.

I recently organised a conference for my university at the Cumberland Hotel Bournemouth. The process of organising the event was straightforward, the rates were very reasonable, and the team were exceptionally accommodating of our requests. Across the two-day event everything was organised perfectly - the room and set up was excellent and easy to use and access, the tea and coffee was replenished regularly (essential!), and the lunch buffet was delicious and accommodated a wide range of dietary requirements. For our guests staying overnight, the rooms were clean and tidy, and the hotel accommodated a large party of us for dinner which was also really tasty. In particular, events staff Dominic and Edward, and the manager on shift Sean, made sure our conference went completely smoothly. A huge thank you to the team at the Cumberland - we will definitely be back and highly recommend to anyone looking to host an event in Bournemouth.

Fabio in the Ventana Grand Cafe Lounge is absolutely wonderful when it comes to paying attention to the small details of care to make a visit memorable. I was having afternoon tea in Ventana and he saw the I was also doing work on my laptop and didn't look to comfortable on the laptop. He brought me a small table to help me both do work and have a lovely afternoon tea. He also went and found an extension power strip for me to plug into. The nicest thing about Fabio's kindness is that I did not ask for a table or power strip. He treated me like he would treat a friend in his home. This type of kindness and thoughtfulness toward a solo traveler such as myself made this visit very memorable. Most luxury hotel have amenities such as a pool, restaurant, bar, etc, etc. but the thing that stands out the most and makes me want to come back to a hotel is the kindness of their staff. Out of 5 Stars I would give them 10 Stars. Thank you Fabio.

Wonderful midweek break in Bournemouth, stayed at the Cumberland ,perfect location just 15 minutes away from town, pier, across the road from sandy beach. Stayed on 4th floor with balcony and sea view newly decorated room gorgeous. Style of hotel is art deco, lounge area with bar serving cocktails happy hour from 5-6 Monday to Thursday had to try of course. Cocktails are made with all fresh ingrediants and not cheap syrups they were soo good.. Only nag I had was restaurant bar waiter Michael was very rude to his team and guests, I did pull him up on it but he didn’t care.Other guests were also complaining about his attitude not good.
Opted for half board , 3 course daily menu served in 1 of the 2 restaurants , was top class and all the staff so welcoming and friendly.. Buffet style breakfast was plentiful and hot could not fault. Poached eggs freshly cooked on request. Gorgeous outdoor pool area with plenty of high end sun beds and chairs. If you book hotel direct parking is free otherwise £12 per day.
I would definately stay here again thank you Cumberland hotel for a wonderful well needed break.
