Average, but Naome, Felix and Rumy in the restaurant were outstanding for industry and friendly attention to detail. One evening we had to wait one and a half hours before ANY food appeared for us. Menu choices severely limited. Room service was patchy: two full days without service. Reception always friendly and helpful.

We came over from Brixham for a lovely cream tea as a birthday present, The cream tea was one of the best we have had, and the service received by a lovely lady named "Ania" was impeccable. The highest standards of hospitalilty was given to us in this restaurant by this young women. 5*

First visit to this hotel staying as a family of four with a 3 year old and baby. We stayed after the Summer school holidays and had a lovely few days at the hotel. The staff were extremely welcoming and friendly to the kids. They remembered their names every morning at breakfast and when leaving and returning back to the hotel. Extra mention to Mateus (not sure on spelling) in the dining area for being so friendly to the two kids over our stay. The food was very good for breakfast and we had a couple of dinners in the hotel which were excellent. Yes, the hotel is a little dated but we can't fault the room at all. We are coming out of the pandemic still and appreciate hotels are trying to get back to their best. Only issue was the indoor swimming pool and being told on arrival it was cold which was a shame as we wanted to take the kids swimming but aside from this, we had a great stay and would recommend it.

The building needs investment - this place should not have a 4 star rating in 2022, it’s old and tired, and needs a full on refurbishment in many areas, especially the rooms and very uneven floors. Staff were nice.

Good location, we had a nice suite. BUT the whole stay was ruined because booking.com and the hotel messed up our booking and reception decided to invent a "guest charge" of £25 per guest on a room only booking. We haven't received an invoice for these extra charges from the hotel or booking.com, an illegal situation. Avoid this hotel unless you have unlimited funds. And we booked parking but none was available on arrival.

I was very disappointed with this hotel especially for the price you pay, it is not worth it. I stayed in a family room with my mum and two young boys (under 5) and I must say the extra bed they gave us was no more than a camping bed with a sunbed mattress on, it was so uncomfortable. The room didnt have a fridge so we had to ask for buckets of ice to keep drinks and milk cold especially as the room was so hot even with the windows open. I was also stunned that we couldn't get WiFi in the room at all, it was only accessible from the dinning hall and downstairs area. The decor in the room was horrendous, we had wallpaper falling off the walls, dirt marks on the picture frames and a couple of wonky broken lamps, the only nice thing I could say about the room was that the main beds were comfy, clean and with nice sheets. The only nice thing I can say about the whole hotel is that the lobby looks nice and the staff are very friendly but that's all, the whole hotel needs a major refurbishment.

Really enjoyed our stay here. Incredibly friendly family type feel staff are soo soo lovely. Breakfast great and the room was a refurbished room again great: I went as a single parent with two children and the indoor and outdoor pool were quiet and we were able to enjoy it quite a bit on our own at times. Only issue is that you need two paying adults to get the free kids meal and I’m a single parent so that doesn’t seem fair: also it stops at age 7?! Which is odd. Other than that a lovely holiday. The outdoor pool is a gem

Hotel looks lovely as you first walk in, go beyond that to the corridors and rooms etc, it’s a different story! Very dated! along the corridor where our room was smelt awful. Indoor pool was cold and dated, changing room was dirty and dated, showers had clear screens so no privacy what’s so ever. Gym was run down and machines didn’t work. Definitely doesn’t look like any of the pictures on the website. A lot of money for what it is. Staff were nice and helpful, bar area was nice Wouldn’t stay again if I’m honest.

Hotel staff helped where they could. We booked two nights. Got there .... No booking. Somehow my hotels.com booking got changed. To the following week. How ?? Who knows... Lovely lady at the hotel reception said it did exactly the same to her the week before. Whilst booking firvanother customer. So, she spoke to manager. They had one family room left. But was £450.00, room not yet ready so would need to wait for it. They would discount to £400.00 . After a discussion they agreed to deduct the 279.00 we paid for the following week away from current balance which was very kind of them. But still meant paying another £121.00 on top of what I had already paid. We had no choice. Rooms not available elsewhere where. And we would lose our £279.00 Gave them my telephone number , was told they would ring when room was ready. 1hr 30min later I popped up to ask. Nothing. I said grandson wants to use pool etc etc . So they gave us a day pass key to go on with allowed us access to bags etc for swimming gear. 2 hours later still no call. We had to cancel our table reservation at restaurant in town. I went up to ask how much longer ? Yeah, been ready ages.. no one told her to call me. Roo repairs . Room 402 , mold on bath edge. Missing handles on drawers . Crack broken plaster on walls. Wardrobe with odd and doors that would shut properly. Window ledges etc not been cleaned in years. Now the downside. The 1881 restaurant. What a complete let down. We went there as we couldn't be bothered to go out now.. Worst mistake we made. Fresh bread was fabulous. Starters . Garlic bread hard stale over cooked. Pate starters. Hard over cooked stale bread also. Tasted like store bought chutney. Mains. Got worse. Over cooked veg, plus raw veg. All tasted awful. Chicken and mushroom pie was tadtless chicken, hard tastless pastry. Mashed potato was lovely. We told the waiter. Is everything OK? No pie is awful tasteless etcetc . OK he said an him food was awful. Oh ok.... I'll tell someone? Why didn't he 10 mins ago. We/ manager came over . If deducted 20% of your bill. At this point. There was no point in arguing . We paid the £65.00 and left. It really put a downer on our holiday. The next night we went to town. Had the most amazing meal we could ask for. I will be leaving them a review shortly. Steak blew me away. Would I return 50/50 to be honest with you. First 3 nights we was in a guest house. A lot cheaper. And just as nice. The grand pool was amazing. ( outdoor one ) indoor pool was like an ice box. There is definitely room for improvement here. Could be so much nicer. Need a 24/7 handy man , keeping on top of every detail. Years of neglect
