Thanks to its seafront setting, our Premier Inn Torquay hotel is the perfect spot for scenic short breaks in Devon. As well as being right on the coastline, you'll find plenty of exciting things to do nearby, from visiting the animals at Paignton Zoo, to exploring the underground caves at Kents Cavern. Plus, couples and families alike will love the rides and amusements on Paignton Pier. There's two parts to the Premier Inn Torquay hotel - the historic building, and the modern annexe, which are connected to each other by a short, covered walkway. Whichever section you're staying in, though, you can look forward to delicious meals in our tasty Beefeater restaurant, before relaxing in an extra-comfy bed.

Unfortunately I have to give one star because I do not have the option to give a zero! The hotel is a bit run down but seems ok in general until you have a problem and then you are faced with the ugly side of the reception team, apart from Anna who was very nice and tried to assist us. We had a problem with parking, as many customers do due to lack of clarity. The reception team were unprofessional, unpleasant and condescending when dealing with our problem, but were pleasant enough when we checked in. Please read the other reviews for the reception team, there is a pattern to the manners of the team, especially the young man named Sam who I was unfortunately dealing with . After he was unhelpful and rude with our enquiry, we were concerned that other guests would get a ticket and his response was "they will just have to get one as well! It happens every day". We asked why they don't sort this issue out for everyone's sake. We are only just posting this review because it has been extremely upsetting firstly how we were spoken to and secondly we have been waiting for a response from guest services who have not had the courtesy to reply.

Hotel's Favourite
This was our first time at this PI. Check-in very smooth. Room great size for 2 adults and 2 children. Had one at the front on the first floor which had a sea view which was not requested so a nice surprise. Everything that you would expect in a PI room and bathroom with the addition of a sea view! Had breakfast in the Beefeater next door which was great as they have gone back to buffet which is easier. Just wish they would put more milk and tea bags in each room as needed to go to reception to keep asking for more. Only small issue as others have said is car park. PI have outsourced most of their car parks to Horizon. This one is one of the more quirky car parking systems to use. Enter car park and find space, although this might be difficult in high season but there are about 20 spaces behind annex to the right which aren’t obvious at first. Get a ticket from reception and pay before you exit. Not a problem if you leave car for duration of stay but if not, you will need to ask for a new ticket and pay each time you want to leave car park which is a bit quirky. At £3.50 for 24 hours, it’s the cheapest in the area. There is a long stay next door if you can’t find a space. Also, if you enter car park, find there’s no space and leave, don’t know if you would get fined. Wasn’t a problem in February but if visiting in high season, park and leave the car for duration. A family bus ticket costs £10 for the day, buses are really regular and you get to see loads more without the hassle!! Will definitely visit again as love our stays at PI.

This hotel is in a brilliant location near the sea front, opposite Torre Abbey Gardens. The frontage is an old one but inside it's standard Premier Inn. Nice breakfast room with sea view. The room was comfortable as usual. Well-manned reception desk.

The location of the hotel is superb! Torquay seafront is right at its doorstep, with all major attraction at a very close distance. That being said, we were not particularly satisfied with the room (We got a room on the ground floor). To begin with, there was a distinct odour of moisture, to the point that when we got home all our clothes had soaked up that smell. The room seemed dated and small, while the shower only had the victorian type shower (the one with the fixed shower head). I appreciate that many people may be accustomed to it, however I find it a very outdated concept without any practicality. It is also worth noting that the free wi-fi was really bad, even simple web browsing was a tall order... On the plus side, mattresses and pillows were pretty good, offering good quality sleep. Staff was polite and helpful and breakfast was probably the highpoint of our stay - it was very tasty and the breakfast hall (the beefeater restaurant) was boasting a very warm and cosy atmosphere.

I have stayed at this Premier Inn on several occasions and it seems to me that this is a tale of two halves. Half of the rooms are good and the other half not so good and depending on which room you get is probably how your review will go. Having previously stayed in a room overlooking a roof with noisy air conditioning units outside, it was suggested by the reception staff at the time that I should call before the next visit and ask for a room away from this area. I tried calling on numerous occasions to no avail, I never got a reply. On arrival I mentioned the room, I said not too bothered where else the room is, as long as not near the air conditioning units on the roof. Apparently we had been allocated a room looking out onto the roof again which is a little surprising considering there are quite a lot of rooms. We were eventually given a room, in an area that I had also stayed in previously, in the original older part of the hotel, a little dark, at the end of a corridor with a low slightly claustrophobic ceiling. As only staying one night, not too bothered but then one of our towels was not clean, the air conditioning did not get very cold either,so was a little disappointed. Having stayed here previously, sometimes booked by me, sometimes booked as part of a group by someone else it seems that we are always given one of the grottier rooms - is this because we were only staying one night? My friend however, who booked after us (staying for two nights) along with another couple and both had lovely rooms in the newer part of the hotel. The other disappointment was that previously when visiting (pre covid), a group of us would sit in the bar, have lunch and drinks etc but now the bar is uninviting, the tables are just laid out for food and very formal, it looked more like a canteen. The only comfortable chairs had been moved to the back along with the leather look sofas, where the pretend leather had all but peeled off. Surely these should be replaced, or at least discarded they are so tatty and not at all what you would want to sit on. All in all, a disappointing stay which is a shame as it had been one of my favourite areas.

This hotel was brilliant. We stay at a lot of Premier Inns and this is the best one yet. Did book a premier plus room and was well worth the money. You get the fridge and coffee machine, but the room was massive and had great views of the sea. Funky lighting, chocolate, cool shower, couldn’t have asked for more. We got a space in the car park but if you have to use the other one, the entrance is via the hotel one, so you don’t have to drive around searching. Helpful guy on reception, tallish with dark hair, never remember to get their names, but very friendly and polite. Loved it that you could walk to the theatre and everything Torquay has to offer. It’s a lovely stroll on a nice evening. We ate in the Beefeater attached 3 nights out of the 4 we stayed, we found it good, although one night a few customers complained. But we found it ok and convenient. I’d definitely stay here again. We were in the annexe which is connected to the main part by a long corridor but it feels shorter the more times you walk it. If you are on annexe first floor, you are up 2 flights of stairs, as the reception in the main building, although ground level there, is actually classed as lower ground, so in the annexe, ground floor is up one flight of stairs. In case anyone finds that useful info.

Staff were very rude and uncaring. The hotel was dirty, breakfast crockery had to be handed back due to not being clean. We booked Sunday lunch but they ran out of food, no apology given. We had booked for 5 nights but left after 3 as it was such a terrible experience. We raised our concerns but had no satisfactory response.

Me and my Partner have been Visiting Devon staying in Torquay and Exmouth. Torquay was our first stop. The Hotel was lovely and very pleasing to the eye, Great stay and rooms were as expected for a Premier inn! Food was great as always. Nearby Beefeater was well worth the money and all the staff throughout were brilliant and helpful. 100% will be coming back next time
