Stayed here recently, on the way out of Vancouver Island. The location was good and close to alot just outside of Victoria. The price was also the best compared to similar properties. The room was clean and comfortable, nothing fancy. Service was friendly.
Special shout out to front desk staff Sierra. On wait to airport I required some assistance and she was so helpful - had bandaids!! And was great at providing directions. The pub on site has great service and fantastic food - nice room affordable price Highly recommend
From the first step inside the lobby, everything impressed - cool interior, friendly staff, very clean spaces, free parking. Room was well appointed and super clean. All staff were very approachable. Did not use the on-site restaurant but nice to know there is one if needed. Bar/lounge had live music on weekends. No pool or gym but this did not affect my stay. Not downtown Victoria, but that made it quieter for my family. Can't beat this experience for the price. Highly recommended...
The scent of the air fresheners was enough to choke me! Had to open the window immediately, so glad it was a mild night. On the other hand the bathroom was sparkling and new, the bed was clean and crisp.
Unique and quirky property conveniently located near the airport. Building is older but well renovated. Huge rooms and friendly staff. Great job with bagged breakfast. One minor issue as occasionally staff weren’t wearing masks in line with current BC laws. Unfortunately no dog was on site, but great story behind the dog that was there before. Would stay here again.
The good: Rate was fair for busy tourism season. I had realistic expectations thanks to the overall rating on TripAdvisor. COVID-19 breakfast arrangement is quite nice where you order ahead of time and they will have it ready for you to pickup at front desk. Location: sure it's not downtown Victoria but I don't mind it being close to Butchart Gardens and the airport. Drive downtown isn't too bad. It's a few hundred meters from an ocean side park/trail. The bad: I find myself having changes perspectives since COVID-19. These low-tier hotels are just not tolerable any more. It's old and tired and not cleaned very well. I think I'll be paying more for future vacations so my family can have a more comfortable and pleasing stay. No uglies. Just set your expectations right and this could be the right hotel for you.…
I was booked here for a one night stay while on business travel. The accommodation was acceptable, but the decor is dated and some of the furnishings could use replacement. (e.g. the armoire in my room was missing handles on the drawers). Due to COVID, breakfast was a pre-packaged egg muffin that i had to re-heat in my room . it would have been useful to have a paper plate to hea it on, as the cheese melted on to the single napkin provided. The pub did not appeal to me for dining, but i was pleased to find the Marigold Cafe about 500 meters away on Lochside Drive, and for fast food, there is a McD's across the street,
I spent three nights here in July. Staff is very friendly. Good value. Great location. My room was quiet, microwave and fridge and good modifications for breakfast due to COVID. I love the character of this place-- plus John the waddling dog who the hotel is named for. I would definitely stay here again.
We spent 3 nights here as a getaway from the boredom of COVID Lock down. We have stayed at this Hotel several times and have never been disappointed. This time was no exception. Understandably housekeeping is on request only it was there if you needed it. It is very dog friendly. The adjoining Pub has some of the best Pub food in metro Victoria and exceptional Service.
Very clean, quiet older hotel. If you're looking for glitz and glamour, this is not your place. If you're looking for old style tudor, comfy rooms then this is it. We had a great stay here, the front desk service was excellent and very friendly. The famous waddling dog pub wasn't open because of the snow storm which is unfortunate but next time we go to Victoria we'll stay here again.
