The Sublime is aptly named. It truly is a gem of a place and unlike your typical holiday experience. Southwest Portugal is general is fantastic — nearly absent of any development. The sprawling beaches stretch for miles on both sides without any signs of civilisation. Just loved it. The hotel itself has the feeling of a super high-end campground, especially because you’re in the middle of a pine forest and the rooms/villas are spread out over a wide area. Our family of 5 stayed in 3 rooms, but the options seem pretty diverse, including some beautiful looking villas with their own pools.

Restaurants:

—We had a great dinner at the hotel’s beach club, about 15 minutes away. It’s not cheap but well worth it; the restaurant is situated right on a beautiful beach. The club provides lounge chairs but these weren’t available to us because it was still early in the season. If you account for the view, this was probably the best dinner we had during our trip. The sangria was delicious. The oysters were also very good, as was the tuna tamaki and shrimp curry.

—We ate in the hotel’s restaurant the first night there. And the food was excellent — the best of the trip. The wine, olive oil, and bread were all made by the hotel. In fact, the food overall in the hotel is exceptional, including the breakfasts (served til 11a!). There’s another restaurant open in summer months, so we didn’t get to try.

—We had another great meal at Sal Restaurant. It’s another of the 3-4 restaurants that the hotel will recommend. The beach is arguably a bit better at Sal but the food wasn’t quite as good as the Sublime Beach Club, even the the vibe was similarly busy and the service efficient and friendly.

Some tips:

—You really need to rent a car. We didn’t rent one and in hindsight we should have. There are taxis to ferry you to the beach or dinner but it can take a while for them to show. There’re also a number of electrical charging stations at the property if you want to rent something electric.
—The tennis and paddle courts are amazing. Grass/astroturf surface.
—Try to book all of your meals in advance including those at the hotel.
—The gym is small but great — it has everything we needed

We left Sublime and Comporta thinking this is the kind of place that perhaps in just a few years from now could look a lot different, with more hotels and restaurants going in because for such a pristine place, it feels so undiscovered.

As we live in the Algarve and it was my 50th birthday and Covid 19 put a stop to any holiday away as such myself & a friend booked 3 nights away at Sublime Comporta .
After a stress free 1 hour 15 min drive we were met with a very warm welcome by the lovely receptionist who I regret to say we didnt ask her name as from start to finish her service was professional and made us feel like nothing was too much trouble.
We booked the two bedroom Cabana which was spacious,clean and had everything we needed and more. As it was winter upon request a lovely man would come and light the log fire ,although there was heating and air con in every room it was extra cosy with the fire lit.
We had a lovely lunch by the fireplace in the hotel which was very casual and relaxed and delicious food also a lovely evening meal in the restaurant.
Due to COVID most of the restaurants in Comporta Beach and Town were closed except for their own Sublime Comporta Beach restaurant (ten min drive away) which was simply a stunning location, restaurant and service .
Overall considering the COVID restrictions I am not sure I can give a true reflection on how Sublime Comporta Retreat and Comporta Town/Beach would be normally when they are to full capacity but all I can say is every member of staff made sure we enjoyed our stay and even surprised me with a Birthday cake and bubbles left in our room on my birthday.
I am excited to return this time bringing my husband

We stayed at Sublime Comporta in Nov and December 2020. Initially we did not know what to expect, but upon arriving during our first visit, we instantly booked a second stay for Christmas.
Everything was great. Property is impressively well kept. We loved their vegetable garden and cozy common areas.
Our Room, the Bio Pool suite, was beautifully decorated, great light and view of water and with great amenities including a small “stove chimney” that kept us warm during our winter stay. Service is 5 stars all the way. We felt well taken cared of; their staff went above and beyond to make us feel comfortable and welcome. Our Christmas diner, including a vegetarian 3 course menu that was absolutely wonderful. The Veggie menu included a fabulous “lavrador” veggie rice. My husband Ed, loved their Christmas Cod and fantastic wine pairing. Sommelier was super nice and informative.
We also enjoyed their beach club, which offers excellent food, great service and beautiful sunsets.
Last but not least, we felt that they took COVID very seriously. We felt very safe and at ease, at the same time these measures did not feel intrusive.
If you are visiting Comporta, look no further and stay here. We will surely be back.
Ed and Beli

A beautiful hotel with really lovely, friendly staff. Great food and wine. 10 minutes drive from a beach with white sand and clear (though chilly!) water. Sublime Comporta's beach restaurant is a great setting for a long lunch too.

The 'Guest Suites' lack privacy between the main space and the toilet. The toilet on the mezzanine level had a thin curtain separating it from downstairs. There was a separate toilet on the main level, but this had a door made of twigs so privacy was an issue. All the rooms are spread around the huge property with a central hub that contains reception, a bar and the restaurant.

Beautiful place but such bad service, amazed in a bad way!!
Agreed that the place is beautiful (huge land with beautiful trees), but so many places are beautiful in the world and some others in Portugal too, thus it’s not enough to become a great place where it feels good stay and enjoy.
The rooms are nice, you have all the comfort, even if some small details could be still improved for a real refinement;
And I have noticed that the maintenance on the long term might be a problem in this hotel, for exemple one cupboard in my room was not closing anymore, it’s a small detail but for a place of this category, every sinhle details count!
But the place would be ok, even pleasant, if they knew what is a proper service for an hotel of this category;
It was such bad, I have rarely seen that or maybe never when you pay this much; most of the staff was really bad, not professional at all, not trained, too many young internship or seasonal job who don’t know at all what is service; some were even at the limit of the politeness when I start to complain; even one of the manager didn’t have a proper attitude when I asked to see someone; the first thing would have been to apologize but this is not what they do there!
Hours to get served for food, it came cold, the messed up with the orders but not only once, each time we went to the restaurant or when we ordered room service! And the excuse was we are full so too hard to handle, what a joke!
The food was not even good, limited choice, the wine list is miserable for a place of this standing;
The common places are too small for the qty of guest when the hotel is fully booked, this is unbelievable also;
We booked to play paddle and finally it was not even possible because they accepted people from outside who booked also; how is that for the price paid, 600€/night per room!
The spa is way too small for the qty of guest they welcome, so really book in advance if you want to have any treatments, but I have to admit that I had a body massage with a very good therapist, at least, this was the only nice moment of my stay there.
It’s really pity when we own a beautiful place like that to be unable to serve customers properly and to put a nice atmosphere!
I would definitively never come back and really I don’t recommend the place for the price it is; you can find better smaller places in Portugal for a much better value quality/price.

During our travels around Portugal this summer, we took 2 Bio Pools Suites for a 2 night stay.
The Sublime lives up to is name in terms of the beauty of the place, and the Bio Pool Suites are really amazing and have an understated luxury feel about them. However our arrival at the hotel had nothing in common with what you would expect from a luxury establishment. When we gave our name, the receptionist told us straight away that we had no reservation at the Sublime, and were we sure that we hadn't made a mistake ?
Instead of double checking the spelling of our name, the receptionist decided to tell us that we had not reserved. Not really the kind of attitude that we are used to when staying in luxury hotels. We found in general that the staff were not very welcoming, apart from the waiters at the restaurant that you don't have to book. However, check your bill as both nights that we dined there, we had an error in the bill.
The complimentary items such as cotton pads, were not renewed after the first night, and once again this is not acceptable when paying the rates at the Sublime.
It really is a beautiful place, but definitely not up to a five start standard in terms of service

I'm unsure why there are a few reviews here in regards to the service, perhaps the staff has changed but we couldn't rate the hotel more highly. We had very attentive staff, all very friendly and would go out of their way to make our stay enjoyable. They even tinkered with the electrics for us to turn off certain lights that were shining at night into the room so our daughter could sleep better. My only comment is they need slightly better mattresses and more choice on the room service menu - we're new parents with a 6 month old so had to order in every night!

We stayed in one of the eco pool rooms and they were absolutely gorgeous. The pool itself is so glorious when compared with chlorine pools (there is one of those if you prefer). Bathrooms and room itself were charmingly simple and light. Breakfast was fab, restaurant dinner was quite expensive for well executed comfort food. The team were absolutely wonderful at organising a special moment for us on the glorious beaches of Comporta - Pedro in particular! In general the team were efficient and very friendly.

As a 20+ year veteran in the hotel industry I have been privileged enough to stay at some of the best hotels in the world, Sublime ranks upon my top 10. It’s difficult to describe a vibe or an energy, this place simply has it. I actually felt like I floated in air here. It’s low density, eco luxe vibe carries throughout the property, from the privacy of a villa with its own pool, dedicated staff who anticipated my needs even before I did, the architecture, design, premium food & beverage offerings, spa, natural landscaping, vintage pink Moke to get around, transfers to the chic beach club a few minutes away. I LOVED this property. But I think it was the gentile staff I will carry with me forever. I’m already booking my return next summer - and the property clearly has a high repeat guest rate given the kind familiarity I witnessed amongst staff and guests. My only warning, re-entry after being cocooned here for a week is brutal. Don’t miss riding through the dunes and nature preserve with Cavalos Na Arena and a caipirinha at their bar pop up at the stables, shop till you drop Comporta, eat at Gomes, a sunset cocktail and dinner overlooking the rice paddies at Quinta do Comporta - their spa is superior so spend a day here but stay at Sublime!

This place is really unique, a short drive from Lisbon (take the ferry via Setubal), dry warm climate and beautiful nature.

It’s one of those places that has not yet been overrun by tourists and the beach is beautiful. There are only a few hotels around and some villas to rent. The water a bit colder than the Mediterranean but not a problem.

We only had excellent meals at both the hotel and their beach club, the Sal restaurant just South of the Sublime Beach club is highly recommendable as well. The service at the beach club restaurant was outstanding, the staff at the food outlets and the hotel are doing a very good job as well, just really a shame about the front desk staff, which are borderline unfriendly but definitely incompetent.

We gave them a couple of tasks during our stay, three times I enquired about one rather important item, but never got any reply until I prompted them.

Check-out was a joke as well, was told to sit down while they prepared the bill, after 30 minutes I asked them again, only to be told that yes it is ready, fine I said, bring it to where we were now sitting and having coffee. No-one came, never mind, I went back again and finally got to pay, and also got a bit too smart remark from the receptionist on the way. The front staff appear untrained, have limited English skills and seem to have no hospitality training.

We booked a Guest Suite as this was the only room category available. It was actually surprisingly nice and large, more like a little townhouse and big enough for 2 adults and 2 kids.

It’s really a 4 star review due to the front office, but the beach club and the beautiful surroundings saves the day and they still get 5…

There were lots of families there and the hotel was great for little kids as it has a full playroom. For your age kids it's just that there isn't much to do other than going to the pool or driving to the beach.
