The Woodlands Lodge Hotel garners consistent praise for its exceptional service, with the staff's attentiveness extending to both guests and their furry companions. Nestled near the New Forest, its location is celebrated for tranquility and ease of exploration. Cleanliness is a hallmark, noted in the pristine rooms, though the garden may need extra care.
While the rooms are cozy, some guests suggest a decor refresh and improved soundproofing. Amenities like forest access and pet-friendly offerings are popular, but an update and better shower pressure could enhance the experience. The atmosphere is acclaimed for its serenity, though value perceptions vary with a few reports of overpricing.

OK, first the Pro's, this is a 500 year old building set on the edge of a forest with some lovely walks where you can see deer and ponies, we also spotted a few woodland at mounds, a hawk and what I believe was a Newt crossing the path. it is about a 30 minute walk from the station so if you do not book in advance it is quite a walk and most taxi services charge a minimum charge of £15. The welcome we got from the young lady on reception was excellent and the service from start to finish was more than we could have asked for, everyone was lovely. The food was excellent and the price very fair. Covid rules are in place so wear masks in public areas of the hotel, tables are set apart. Another plus is that dogs are welcome. Rooms comes with a brew kit of coffee, tea, milk and sugar plus the complimentary bathroom accessories such as soap, shampoo, bath/shower was and moisturiser. You even get a couple of bottles of still and sparkling water. There is and extra blanket and a couple of spare pillows. due to Covid19 if you have to ask for a non slip shower mat and room phones have been removed.
Cons. Well the toilet flush handle was temperamental and the room carpet and furniture could do with a shampoo. the cupboard door handles wouldn't work and the heating seemed to turn off at night. Sadly the bed was a bit uncomfortable but we slept and that was the main thing. Also the TV was rather small but certainly watchable supplying Freeview. You can hear residence in the next room but then it is a hotel. Also the steps are quite steep and there is no lift so if your disabled this is not the ideal hotel.
Overall yes we would stay here again and we were in probably the cheapest room, the price you pay is more than fair for the excellent and friendly service, the location and the excellent food.
A special thank you to the lovely blonde lady who greeted us and also Steve (Irish gentleman) who both served us during the evening meals/breakfast for making our stay a very pleasurable one.

We've just spent 3 delightful nights at Woodland Lodge Hotel in the New Forest.
A lot of work has gone into renovating the building and, in the long term, the work is ongoing but mainly handyman stuff now.
All the staff were very pleasant and professional with a warm welcome both to us and our young cocker spaniel. In fact the hotel is very dog friendly but if you're not a doggy person, don't let that put you off. The main dining area in the conservatory is kept dog free but, if your dog is well behaved, you are welcome to have him/her with you to eat in the bar/lounge.
Everywhere is smoke free.
The bedroom we had had double aspect windows and was light, airy, quiet and comfortable. The lighting was the best and brightest we've ever seen in a hotel bedroom. Note that the windows are single glazed sash windows.
We took a dinner, bed and breakfast package booked directly with the hotel. You can chose your three course meal from the a la carte menu regardless of the price of individual items. The food was excellent and original and, naturally, served with a smile. Nothing was too much trouble.
Someone else on this site has referred to the hotel sign by the road being in need of a clean and we noticed the same thing.
The hotel is in a quiet part of the New Forest and there are walks straight from the back gates into the forest.
There is nothing of that 'hotel' feel about Woodlands Lodge which pervades so many hotels. More a home from home.
Finally, something we've not met before. Your itemised account is emailed to you late evening of the day before you leave saving a visit to reception and allowing private checking in your room. There is time the following morning to query anything you don't understand as the amount is not taken from your credit card until between 10 and 11am.
Congratulations to all who run this lovely hotel.

This is a beautiful hotel at an extremely reasonable price. The décor and surroundings are lovely. You walk through the gardens and you are in the New Forest. Loved how when the weather is nice you can sit and have dinner in the grounds.
This is a lovely dog friendly hotel so if you have dog, would definitely recommend it. (We never had a dog with us but loved how they are thought of with dog cushions , various water bowls dotted etc and are definitely thought of as one of the family.)
Breakfast was really good and we treated ourselves to an afternoon tea which was extremely reasonably price and very yummy!
The staff are a credit to the hotel. Very friendly but professional and always with a smile on their faces and can't do enough for you. We felt totally safe with the current Covid situation (more than we have done when we have visited a pub) and staff always wear masks, hand sanitisers dotted about and once used only menus etc. Tables are very spaced out.
We were lucky to have found the last room at this hotel and would love to return and would definitely recommend.
We hope to visit again in the future!
Thank you very much Woodlands!

Room 14 was described as a deluxe room overlooking the side garden . It was not deluxe and it overlooked the kitchen roofs into the neighbours garden . The furniture in the room was painted white and had obviously been knocked about looking very shabby . As for the bed it was the worst bed I have ever had to sleep on . Old V sprung mattress should have been dumped years ago , no it did not sink in the middle , it was raised in the middle . Laying close to the edge one could of easily fallen out. The pillows were about as soft as my car tyres. I asked if they had any other pillows such as feather. The young lady found me a better synthetic pillow and also put a duvet to cover underneath the under sheet to counteract the uncomfortable mattress . As for the bathroom , the shower had miserable low pressure which took ages to wash the shampoo out of your hair. It was also over the bath. Full marks go to the person who put up the toilet roll. It was sited behind the toilet . We asked if they had anything better than the room we were in but they said they were fully booked. We would have moved on our second day had we not have made arrangements to visit a friend 3 days later . We had booked for 1 week but we stayed only 5 days . The charge for the dog had doubled to £10 from the article we had read in the Dog Friendly magazine which sung its praises . Yes it was great for dogs and the location is wonderful .
On a more positive side the staff were excellent and friendly and the food was superb .

Response from Woodlands Lodge, Other at Woodlands Lodge Hotel
Responded 18 Oct 2021
Dear Jacky P, we are very disappointed to read your review. We are a friendly 3 star hotel, and our rooms and service reflect this. However, thank you for your positive comments regarding the staff, location and food. We are sorry you found the bed uncomfortable and after speaking with you regarding your medical issues tried to soften the mattress with an additional topper and duvet. We knew that you did not like the room and if we could have we would have moved you to a different room, but we were fully booked. We do advertise this room has a side garden view, the furniture is not painted and knocked about, but is a 'shabby chic style' and the pillows are synthetic and every effort was made to find one that was suitable for you too. This is one of the only rooms that we have with a shower over the bath although this is not unusual for a 3 star hotel. We did increase our dog charge in 2021 to £10 per dog per night and feel that this is a reasonable and comparable charge for bringing your dog on holiday.

We stayed at Woodlands Lodge in June for a two night midweek stay. We booked 3 rooms which were all very pleasant - very clean and comfortable with fans in the two more expensive rooms, which were very welcome as the weather was quite warm. The staff were very pleasant - although we were sympathetic to the lady on duty that night, who was serving at the bar, taking food orders and serving food. She seemed at full stretch.
It was the food on our first evening that was a real disappointment. We'd stayed at the hotel some years previously and had really good food, but the meals we were served were very pricey, considering the poor standard. My husband had seabass. It was a very small portion in a tiny bowl and was £23.50. My son had a vegan Greek salad at £15.50 and it looked quite unappetising and again was on the small side.. My own main was not especially nice, and again not worth the price.
We decided to change our restaurant booking the next night and went to a nearby local pub where we had a very good meal at a cheaper price.
I feel the hotel aims to make money on the food and it rather marred our stay at the hotel.
However, I have to say the breakfast at the hotel was very good and we had no complaints there.
I'd possibly stay at the hotel again as it's well situated but I'd probably eat elsewhere.

We stayed for two nights in January. We had a ground floor room, with a conservatory that opened onto lovely grounds, and then into the forest.
Our dog was made to feel welcome , even providing a dog bed alongside our dinner table
Food was fabulous....

Spent a very enjoyable week in October, deluxe double room very comfortable and spacious, king size bed, dual aspect looking over grounds, sun shines through from early morning to evening. Very spacious bathroom, powerful separate shower. Superb cooked breakfast, hot food and hot plates.
Any queries promptly dealt with, staff very obliging.
Ideal situation for dogs, hotel in countryside, just walk through grounds and into New Forest, still a central location with easy access to main roads.
Plenty of places nearby to eat for evening.
Would certainly stay again and take our dog.

We stayed in this hotel for two nights in December and the place left us with good impressions. The rooms were spacious with a country touch, warm and clean. The only thing we didn't like about the room, was that the sink in the bathroom had two taps (which we found difficult to use) and there was not much water pressure in the shower.
In addition, the staff was very friendly and followed on the COVID-19 rules.
We also tried the hotel's restaurant for dinner and the food was very good. The Christmas decorations and the fireplace created a cosy atmosphere. On the other hand, we found the (non-buffet) breakfast to be a bit pricey (although being delicious).

We had a really lovely stay and were made to feel very welcome, as was the dog! Reception and serving staff were superb, friendly and personal, nothing was too much trouble for them. Excellent breakfast, super homemade scones for the cream tea. Our room was light and spacious, the complimentary bottles of still and sparkling water was a nice touch and we particularly appreciated the large bath towels, sockets placed by mirrors so that hair dryers could actually be used and decent lighting to read by. Our only recommendation would be to make the bar more welcoming with some easy chairs, sofas possibly, although we recognise that space is limited. All in all we would certainly recommend Woodlands Lodge. A lovely setting, well placed for the New Forest as a whole and we hope to return.

Hi, yes there is a bar and you can sit in there with your dog (if you have one) , also there is a lounge which can relax in too. The staff are lovely and very attentive, you’ll love it I’m sure. Enjoy
Hi we have fridges in our suites. We also have one additional mini fridge which can be moved around - but as there is only one it's a first come first serve basis as to which room gets this :) if you give us a call we would be happy to help.
Best wishes
Reception @ Woodlands Lodge
Hi
It is possible for children to also have our usual kids menu if they prefer. Sausage and mash, pasta, burger, fish fingers and chips. Best wishes reception
Hi yes we have a pub and cafe in walking distance. We also serve sandwiches and cream teas at the hotel. Best wishes Imogene (owner)
Yes! You can walk out the back of the hotel straight into the forest and an endless supply of paths through the new forest. Buy your dog the latest OS map and you'll be away!!
