The hotel restaurant was built using part of the Arab wall , and was later dedicated to the headquarters of the former home of Notariado.Algunos popular commentaries say that this building was dedicated to cloistered convent . Which is not surprising since Encina has a large number of buildings religiosas.Perfectamente communicated with neighboring towns and only 6 kilometers from the Madrid- Cadiz highway, pk 288.Up to the full door Natural Park Sierra Morena. Activities and excursions are organized by the Natural Park

The title comes from what I believe to be an Irish saying implying a karmic relationship amongst us. We had high expectations of the Palacio Guzmanes based upon the photographs published by the facility and I readily acknowledge that from a broad perspective of the entrance and courtyard, the facility is very attractive with expansive views of the surrounding olive tree orchards. Our first cautionary note after confirming our room was a phone call from Booking.com reporting that the hotel would not accept our Amex card....that which had been used to secure the confirmation. We were ushered to our room by a pleasant young woman who had taken our Visa with apologies regarding the undisclosed policy regarding Amex. The door was opened and I was dismayed. I understood this to be a double room with some rooms having a balcony. This room barely housed the bed! Yes...there was a private bathroom but not enough room to turn in a circle with arms outstretched. "Don't unpack" I told my wife. We returned to the " reception desk" and the yound woman offered to take us to see what we understood to be the only other room available.....a larger double roo with a seating area. She explained that the price was 30 Euro higher. I pause to note that despite the statement that the hotel was full, we only saw two couples ( together in one room) during our stay. I agreed to the upcharge and we sat on the patio enjoying the view. I questioned the young woman about the various room alternatives; got a menu for the in-house restaurant; and went to the hotel website. And there I learned that the room we had just occupied ten minutes earlier was 72 E and NOT the 84 E we were to be charged. The 30 E upgrade charge had not yet been processed. My wife brought this discrepancy to the attention of the young girl who spoke to her manager who had just arrived. My wife reports that the manager was unyielding.....if we came in from the street, the charge would be 72E but since we had already checked in, the charge was 84E even though the 30E upcharge had not even been processed! Well.....forget those dinner plans! Just as well...we would have dined alone. The room? Dark....very, very dark furnished with very well-used heavy old furniture....a desk, armoire and couch. The bed was attractive...ensconced by a canopy but the mattress was very soft. No issues with the bathroom though as is often the case with these older re- purposed hotels, a slight urine odour emanates from the sewage so keep the bathroom door closed. In short, we were very displeased with the manager and his approach to " customer relations"; the standard (?) double room is far too small; the overall appearance is attractive as is the patio/ courtyard and the view.

My son and I spent 10 days in Spain and this was his favorite hotel - the atmosphere can't be beat - and having dinner on the rooftop patio is really a nice way to unwind at the end of the day. It was too cold to swim but the pool looked inviting nonetheless. We had some regional specialties at dinner which were very good. To get paella you need to order a couple of hours in advance - we didn't know that so couldn't have it but I would recommend doing that. There is an old Arab fort/castle you can visit or at least walk around. The town is built into a hillside - very quaint. They didn't speak English at the hotel and I thought we paid in advance because I booked online with a credit card BUT we didn't - that just reserves your room - so definitely remember to pay at the end. If we were staying longer I would have liked the rooms with the balconies overlooking the valley. This hotel is about an hour and a half from Granada.

Just off the highway we were looking for a place to stay the night. Found the hotel on TripAdvisor and went to check is out. Extraordinary house in a quiet historic little town. Very friendly and helpful staff. For non-Spanish speakers, Juan is the man as his English is impeccable. Isabel and Lolli are equally friendly and an invitation to practice some Spanish ;-) Had some afternoon food and dinner. One improvement area would be the fries alongside the meat. They should be more crisp. Very recommend in our humble opinion.

Lovely stay at one of the suites on may 12th, the weekend of the “Romería”. We arrived late at night but they offered us to have something for dinner. The place was really quiet and calm even though the village was on its festivity. The suite was huge and very comfortable with a balcony and nice views of the olive trees. I would strongly recommend to visit the village, the castle ... and the hotel for sure. Thanks Regards

Nice room with interesting decor, good bathroom, fantastic view from the 'superior' room with a balcony big enough for table and a couple of chairs. Staff were very friendly and helpful. Our spanish is not very good but we enjoyed trying to be understood. Great spanish food and reasonably priced. We would have liked to stay longer.
