After reading reviews we did wonder what sort of place we had booked but needn't have worried. It wasn't luxurious but for the money we paid we weren't expecting it to be. Our room was spacious with a clean and comfortable bed. The owner was friendly and helpful and the location good. If you want cheap, clean accomodation in a good location about a 10 min drive from Old Quebec city and close to places to eat, book this motel.
We were kind of scared to see this place based on other reviews but it really wasn't bad. A comfortable bed, and clean. That's all we really needed. It came with a fridge, a vanity area and coffee pot. FYI, you have to lock the door from the inside. I loved having a bath however it looked old in there, reminded me of an old apartment we had. But we just needed a place to rest and for that it was perfect.
The Motel Giffard was perhaps the most memorable stay on our week’s tour though the province of Quebec. With the pungent tang of “le toilet” and the earthy aroma of the cozy room itself, the resting place reeked of its history as a simple lodge for decades of intrepid travelers. The place had a number of authentic touches that one simply does not find at chain motels, such as duct tape on the window air conditioner and an unusual blue tarp covering the historic swimming pool site. Gone were the trappings of cookie cutter corporate lodging: The ice and vending machines, coffee in the lobby, etc. This is not to say the Motel Giffard does not give a thoughtful nod to modern amenities, however. To wit, the WiFi was great when one stood outside the wall of the room housing the router. Of course, the neighborhood can make or break a special overnight, and here again, Motel Giffard did not disappoint. Located on a bustling merchant strip, its neighbors include not only a scrappy greenspace but also a diverse array of merchants, including an auto repair garage, print shop, and car wash which, taken together, offer an authentic cross section of everyday Quebec life. The Motel Giffard cost us just over CAN$100 per night, all in, for a room with one bed. A good value? One grows through such experiences, and who could put a price tag on that?…
Although the rooms is small , it is a clean room. Parking is real easy. The motel is located at Blvd St Anne(QC 138), you can find a shopping center and gas station two blocks away. there is 5 mins driving to downtown and also 5 mins to la chute monmorency. It's convenient motel.
Hotel très populaire auprès des locaux Some room need a little refreshment The hotel is near everything Maxi, restaurants, parc etc The staff are great, friendly good service But is a little bit expensive I guest the best time to go there is Durant the low season
Propre, confortable, pas très loin de tout. La place la plus abordable que j'ai trouvé. La chambre est petite, mais mieux que j'espérais. Il ne faut pas se fier à l'extérieur. Clean, confortable, close to almost all activities. The price is O. K. since every else is asking for to much $$. The room is small, but it's only to sleep so... Exterior is not very attractive but inside is nice.
We were looking for a place to sleep one night while we checked out Quebec City, this place seemed well priced for what we needed. We were greeted by a lady named Line (owner) she's very welcoming, answered all our questions about what to see on our one day there, and even upgraded us to a bigger room without us asking and no extra charge! Not sure what the smaller rooms look like but ours had a very comfortable bed, bistro style table with two chairs, and a clean bathroom. There is a pool (we didn't use it) and the parking is free. The only down side was that at 3.1km for the town centre we thought we would be able to walk, but we couldn't because there is a highway separating the motel from the city center- right near on ramp though so still only a 4 minute drive. We would go back again :)…
Stayed 2 nights on business with a co-worker. The room was very big and had everything we needed. Wifi was not good because we were at an end. On the third night I moved to a smaller room (now on my own) closer to the centre of the motel so had better Wifi but unfortunately the room smelled a bit of smoke. Although it is new owners and it is now non-smoking not all the rooms are newly renovated. There is a jewel at Motel Giffard named Line. She was running the show as the owners were away and she was simply the sweetest most caring person, most accommodating individual. She did her upmost to help with the wifi and smoke smell among other little things. I believe you will enjoy your stay at Motel Giffard.
