We go to a Vidanta resort every summer but this was our first time in the Mayan Palace of Nuevo Vallarta. We had very had expectations that were met all the way. Despite being the “lowest” of the category in terms of Vidanta resorts, the Mayan palace was actually the best located within the Vidanta resort complex. It is next to the Plaza which has the supermarket, boutiques and informal restaurants. It is also closest to the newest pool which is right on the beach and next to beachland which is a beautiful space full of gourmet food trucks and 5pm sunset deals such as specials on Aperol spritz. We were a group of 14 including kids of all ages and needless to say each of them enjoyed every amenity of the resort. Every night we went to santuario which is a family friendly open restaurant with live music and shows. It was my son’s birthday and the joy squad helped organize a birthday party for him with decorations at the Grand Bliss Pool! It was amazing!!!! We will definitely go back!

Last year we stayed in the Grand Luxxe, which is the top-of-the-line hotel on this resort property, for our 25th anniversary. It was an amazing trip and actually ended up purchasing 5 weeks with Vidanta in the new Parks section (assuming that it is ever finished!). This year, we were traveling with a bunch of young adults and late teens so we opted for the Mayan Palace property on the Vidanta resort, which is the lowest category on site. Still, even though the difference in luxury was evident (to us only since we had stayed in the Luxxe previously), the rooms were clean and nice, if simple. It worked out perfectly for our party of 8 - we had two, two-bedroom suites and we had plenty of room for everyone. My only complaint since I love a good bath, is that there are no bathtubs in the Mayan Palace. Both of our rooms had views of the ocean and just amazing sunset and lake views. The views could not be beat. The benefit of being in the Mayan Palace vs Tower 5 of the Grand Luxxe is the proximity to everything. You pretty much must take the trams from tower 5, but if you are up to it, you can walk everywhere from the Mayan Palace. But no matter what, it's a lot of walking! My watch registered 5-6 miles daily just walking to restaurants, Beachland and the Pool. But I'm good with that as I ate my way through the entire week and only gained 2 pounds, lol! The pool that is for use for Mayan Palace guests is the brand new Mayan Palace Pool. This was fine for us because it is the nicest pool on property in our opinion! It spans the beach and has beautiful views. We loved the pool bar, and our waiter Alan was amazing. We had him most days and our brood of 8 was all Mexico drinking age and we kept him pretty busy with food and drinks. He remembered us everyday and was so great. He even upgraded us to a reserved area late in the week. Alan made our days at the pool terrific! So did the Joy Squad! My kids played volleyball with them daily and my husband and I did water aerobics. The atmosphere at the pool is fun with a bit louder music. More lively than the Bliss pool for sure. The new beachland area is amazing. Such a cool vibe and great place to hang out. All of the restaurants were great - all a bit pricey as well. For 8 of us, our bills were regularly $400-$500 per dinner. But that's what happens when you bring 6 adult aged "kids" to Mexico! For breakfast, there were two main places to go near us. Sweet Paris in La Plaza was great for fast crepes and other breakfast foods. We went here twice - but mostly we went to Cafe Del Lago, which is a huge breakfast buffet. Last year when we were there, it was right before the pandemic so the buffet was a true buffet and the process was definitely more user friendly. This year, because of the pandemic, they had the buffet items behind glass so you had to go up and ask for whatever it is you wanted. Rinse and repeat throughout the entire breakfast area. This could result in long lines and waits as popular areas (omelets, pancakes, etc..). Only because we know how it used to be, did it seem more cumbersome this year. Speaking of the pandemic, we were impressed with their level of care and caution. There is a low chime that we kept hearing at different places throughout the resort and we kept wondering what it was. I finally asked someone and it's a reminder chime that goes off every 30 minutes to remind staff to sanitize their hands. We were there just last week so masks weren't required of guests but all of the staff wear them. We also were able to conveniently get our COVID tests right on site for the required proof to re-enter the USA. We had results within 24 hours. We did two tours with Estigo Tours while we were there...ATV tour and a private boat tour to Yelapa. Highly recommend each. I put reviews on their trip advisor page. We also did the golf simulator and played the Lakes course and both were so much fun. Don't let the PAR 3 of the Lakes fool you. It's challenging with water and bunker shots on each hole. Prior to last year, we had always traveled in Mexico to the Riviera Maya. But we are in love with Puerto Vallarta. The feel is so lush and while tourism surely rules the roost all over Mexican resort towns, the area around PV exists independent of tourism and the culture and vibe of the area is wonderful - and the mountain and jungle views....Oh my - we just love it. The ONLY complaint I have about Vidanta is their sales staff. I know they have a job to do, but honestly, if you aren't in the market for a timeshare, just say no. And say no again, and 5 more times until they listen to you. Do not fall for the free breakfast and one hour presentation....You will lose a day of vacation, guaranteed. Last year, we fell for the "one hour" presentation promise and we were stuck there for 6 hours. We did end up buying, but we were kind of thinking of switching out our Royal Resorts timeshare in Riviera Maya for the PV side anyway. But still, it was a hard sales, high-pressure situation. They even promise you better rooms and views if you sign up for a presentation. We've bought many timeshares before - this was another level of pressure. As soon as they found out we owned at another resort, we received daily calls until we agreed to do the presentation. This year, I was prepared. I knew they would try to sign us up for a "member update" which would "only take an hour". From reading on this and other sites, I was able to see that this was really just a sales pitch to upgrade our unit....which we definitely were not doing. After a very long trip to the resort and checking in, we were ushered for our welcome drink which is when the "hostess" comes over and tries to sign you up for a presentation. We said no politely. It took 10 more minutes and us getting rude for her to finally understand that we were seriously not going to bend. I hate being rude to people just doing their jobs, but the upshot is we didn't get one phone call the entire week. We LOVE Vidanta and we had an amazing trip. If you can get past the sales people, it will be the most beautiful vacation. Promise! (FYI - people get confused about the different resorts on this property - the Mayan Palace and Grand Mayan are two separate properties on this resort)
