Hotelito Azul did not disappoint. I had to rebook my visit twice and they were very kind of worked with me to reschedule. I was a little optimistic when the airport transfer dropped me off at the door but once you enter the front door it’s truly amazing. The photos on their website did it no justice. I stayed in an Oceanfront Villa. It was very private and gorgeous! I got to wake up to the sunrise and go to sleep with the sunset from my very own balcony. Check-in was simple and I was greeted very warmly. Once you check-in you walk out into the jungle where they have their jungle bungalows. There are hammocks and swings and it’s simply breathtaking. The beach club was awesome. Caught some sun rays and was waited on by the friendliest. Most attentive waiters. I had dinner on the rooftop one night and it was truly an experience. The view and vibe both were unbeatable and again, the wait staff was so friendly and attentive. I loved that the WhatsApp was used as a means of communication. It was easy and the Concierge and Front Desk always responded in a timely manner. The ladies at Concierge were top notch and helped me greatly in making recommendations and setting up reservations for me. I regret not getting a massage from the beach masseuse! Next time! This hotel is gorgeous and j highly recommend you experience it!

Hotel's Favourite
I am SO excited my Dad and I stumbled upon this spot on our beach walk one morning. We stopped by for some drinks and ended up staying all day on the beautiful rooftop! Eleazar and his staff are amazing and so accommodating. I will definitely be going back as many times as I can to catch some beautiful sunsets and show this place off to visiting friends ❤️

Hotelito Azul is heavenly! The moment I arrived I was greeted by the friendly staff and shown to my beautiful suite on the beach. The hotel manager Samantha was amazing and took great care of me. The beach staff was attentive and the food at Hotelito Azul was amazing and fresh! The market Olivia serves the best healthy smoothies. Jorge and Emiliano at the rooftop bar were very gracious and provided fabulous service. I can’t say enough wonderful things about this hotel. I will definitely stay here again!

Very nice and beautiful hotel. The decoration and the service 100% recommended! The only comment that I would have is that it does not include parking. Other than that my experience was awesome and I totally loved Tulum and the location of the hotel.

New York City, New York25 contributions10 helpful votes
Beautiful beach setting and very friendly staff, and my girlfriend and I booked with a Travelzoo voucher for like $200 a night so it’s hard to be too unhappy about such an inexpensive room in Tulum. But we had some major difficulties also that are worth mentioning. First, there was just no water for 2 of the 4 nights we were there. Not just showering—I mean we couldn’t flush our toilet for like 12+ hours at a time so we were quite literally sleeping next to our own excrement. Not being able to wash our hands was pretty gross too. I get that infrastructure in Tulum isn’t quite the same as in back home in NYC, but reliable running water really is the absolute bare minimum for any place of hospitality and they need to be better prepared. In addition, the hotel’s WiFi was out for more than half of our time there and I spent most of the last day trying desperately to connect through my girlfriend’s iPhone hotspot with one bar of service to do what should have been a quick assignment for work. I know people come to Tulum to unplug on the beach, but I also have a pretty demanding job that requires me to be able to connect when needed and the lack of internet turned a two hour project into a whole day affair which really ruined the day for both of us. I actually suspect both of these issues were at least partially outside the hotel’s control (we were told that they were having trouble getting maintenance people out to repair) but then the solution is still probably to offer comp of some kind given how badly they detracted from our stay. The trip certainly wasn’t busting our budget so we didn’t feel the need push for anything, but a gesture of some kind would have been appreciated. Maybe one or two of the very NYC-priced meals. Other issues were less significant. For example, the WhatsApp system is a good idea but messages frequently just went unanswered, which was frustrating during the water and WiFi fiascos. The towel token system is chintzy for a higher end hotel and compulsively monitoring our towels for fear of a fine caused needless stress. The bar music rocked a bit too hard for a sleepy beach resort, and the lobby resembled something out of Kabul circa 2002– they were in the process of replacing it with an organic market but it would have been nice to know about the ongoing renovations when we were deciding where to book. Finally, Covid protocols were haphazard at best—we’re young and didn’t care that much, but others may. Hopefully most of these issues are attributable to Covid staffing and growing pains of a new hotel and will be worked out by the time others stay here. Maybe they already have been (although considering the very confrontational management responses to negative TripAdvisor reviews, it’s also possible that they aren’t taking constructive criticisms to heart). Overall it’s a great concept and I think there’s real potential there. Next visit we’ll probably just play it safe and splurge on something a bit more established and higher end, but I really am rooting for these guys. The most important asset for any hotel is its staff and Hotelito Azul has a good one.

Dear Josh, thank yo for your comments. We have not sold those vouchers in a few years, possibly over a year ago. I am not sure if your experience is from back then, but the property has over-gone a multimillion dollar upgrade with so many new things in the form of amenities, renovations, three new top notch restaurants, a brand new state of the art gymnasium (imported from Italy), which open in a few opens, a brand new Organic Market with A/C, a semi-olympic size lap pool that opens in October, etc. Hotelito Azul is much much improved and different from when you probably visited. So, we strongly encourage you to visit us again, you will be pleasantly surprised! :)
