This was truly the most beautiful, clean place in which I have ever stayed! I loved every moment of my time here! I will definitely stay here the next time I come to Mexico! All of the staff people were so friendly and helpful!

Our fourth visit, first since their renovation. Different look with the same fantastic service. Excellent staff constantly looking to make theirs guests stay memorable. The bars were staffed with enough bartenders to ensure there were no lines building. The servers were energetic and constantly coming by to see if you needed anything. Joe was pushing around his mini-bar making any type of drink, with the exception of frozen, you wanted. He had beer iced in cans which was great in the heat. We remembered Victor from our previous visits. The guy runs the equivalent of a marathon while taking drink orders pool side. Only two negatives about the pool area. The pool swim up bar was too small. Far too crowded with drunks for our liking. The were too many kids running around. I don’t recall seeing this many 10 year old to early teen kids on our previous visits. They were pretty much uncontrolled which is the fault of their parents. Regardless, there were too many of them showing no concern for anyone else in the pool. The beach area was clean and well maintained. The breakfast buffet was good. We were usually there shortly after opening so everything was stocked and hot. We only did the dinner buffet once. Not really impressed with it. It was okay but found no reason to go a second time. The specialty restaurants were much better with Agave and Steakhouse being our favorites. Our least favorite was the Italian. Nothing really Italian about out it. The entertainment was pretty much the same as in our previous visits. The outside stage performers were far better than the 9:30 stage shows. Stage shows were pretty lame. It was still a relaxing way to spend the evening. Once again, the table servers made sure you always had a drink in your hand. We will definitely be back in 2022.

Room Tip: It’s a little less noisy in the evening if your room is closer to the pool area. We upgraded ours...

Service was exemplary in all restaurants, bars, rooms and at the front desk. Food was excellent. The icing on the cake was, as always, the greetings we always receive at the front door, welcoming us home. Paulinho and Dabi are the most amazing representatives of Riu. They greet everyone with more enthusiasm than I’ve experienced in any resort and set the tone for your stay. We look forward to our return in March.

Don’t like the renovations. This was a classic Riu palace hotel with an intimate atmosphere. Especially the pool area which is now completely new-built. It’s just a regular rectangle pool which you can find in your home town. No special form or exotic atmosphere like other resorts in the Caribbean. The same with the pool bar. I liked the hotel so much in the past but will book another one in the future and for sure no Riu anymore.

Response from RIU Hotels and Resorts, Owner at Hotel Riu Palace Riviera Maya
Responded 2 days ago
Dear Joris, Thank you for returning to us and providing us this valuable feedback As you might know, our goal is to provide wonderful memories. For our complete refurbishment in winter 2019, we designed every area and every service of our hotel with the aim to offer a quality holiday experience. We sincerely apologize that we were unable to provide you with the exceptional stay you have come to expect from our hotel as you are not satisfied with the results of the refurbishment. Your opinion is important to us, but you can certainly understand that as for a company there are things you can change to improve and there are also other things you don't want to change when you know the majority of guests are very happy with it. It is a pity that our new concept no longer suits you, and we hope to have the possibility to welcome you back to one of our worldwide available hotels in the future. Kind regards Hotel Riu Palace Riviera Maya Online Reputation Manager
