This really is a beautiful boutique hotel. Our room was right on the beach with steps down to loungers. Service was excellent, food just ok. Views and location of beach suites stunning. Needs something in the evenings just to draw guests to the bar area - extremely quiet
LOVED this hotel! WOW! It's nestled into the beach and jungle away from the hustle and bustle of Playa Del Carmen but still close enough via taxi ride or long beach walk to all the action. The rooms are so romantic and well thought out. Can't say enough kind things about the staff, Pepe the server at the beach/pool area was incredible! Also, their spa will take your breath away. My boyfriend and I did the lovers massage ritual and left feeling so connected and relaxed.. HIGHLY recommend. Their food is amazing, especially the fish tacos. If you're looking for a romantic, secluded oasis but still close to it all, this is your place! Thank you Viceroy Riveria Maya, we will most definitely be back :)
I have mixed feelings about my stay here. My friend and I came for a relaxing long weekend, so we only had 3.5 days. I’ll start with the good: the restaurant staff and overall all the staff were amazing, attentive and enthusiastic. Loved Pepe who often looked after us at the beach and Our concierge/butler that checked us in and generally looked after us was incredible. I had an amazing “trilogy” massage at the spa. The resort is also beautiful. And one evening I wasn’t feeling the best, they organized the pharmacy to bring me some meds. That was very appreciated. The breakfast was great, we had lunch there one day and it was good, but see more food comments below. However, a few things were not awesome, Upon arrival the room we reserved was not actually reserved and was unavailable, so we spent time trying to resolve this, we never did get the room we booked. Our spa appts that we booked 3 weeks in advance and had a confirmation for, never actually got booked, we spent over an hour trying to resolve this. They did comp us our service and that was appreciated. A couple of people on the concierge team were terrible, they couldn’t have sold us an excursion if their life depended on it, they didn’t seem to know anything, not even reccos for restaurants. Luckily the concierge who generally looked after us was very helpful. We had dinner one evening at the resort it was their “beach BBQ” the salad was delicious, the rest was tasteless and bland. For the price, totally not worth it. It put us off having dinner there the rest of our stay. Overall we did have a fun time. I’m fortunate to be able to visit places like this and I never like to complain, I’m hoping the comments can be used constructively. I guess I just excepted a tiny bit more in the details for a 5* resort. …
My husband and I stayed at the Viceroy Riviera Maya three years ago for his birthday and had the best experience. When we made a last minute decision to go to Mexico just before the holidays this year, we were pleasantly surprised that they had availability. It was after we arrived for our stay that we learned about the land issue and subsequent closure/construction that you probably read about in previous reviews. Although these issues presented problems for previous guests, everything felt resolved and back on track when we arrived. The rooms at the Viceroy are spacious and beautiful, the property is well-maintained, the food is delicious, and the service at the beach is attentive but not overbearing. We've stayed at a number of nice hotels in the Riviera Maya area including the Rosewood and Banyan Tree properties at Mayakoba. I would hesitate to say that the Viceroy is exactly on par with these establishments, but it is very very close. If I had one complaint about the Viceroy it is that the hotel next door is loud. They play music on the beach all day long and it (or more technically the bass) can be heard on the Viceroy beach. It bothered me, but might not bother someone else. Regardless, we will definitely go back.…
This was our 3rd (4th?) visit to this property and I now officially never want to stay anywhere else in Playa del Carmen (we've tried). The staff is impeccable - from Jonathan who welcomed us to Pepe and the incredible hospitality staff on the beach, in the restaurants, and in the spa, there are too many to name. The privacy and intimacy of every villa is amazing. Romantic and lovely. The beach is pristine. The food is very high quality (and justifiably priced like it). There is just nothing this place misses on. Attention to detail in all things.
