The food and the drinks are very poor quality and not tasty at all. I am not a picky person when it comes to food, but trust me, when I say the food is tasteless it is tasteless. It was so bad that my husband and I only ate tacos and burgers at the pool bar. Even though the hotel’s interior is super luxury, the restaurant service ruins the entire experience. The only thing I enjoyed here is the beach and the water activities the hotel had to offer.

Hotel's Favourite
With the exception of 2020, my husband and I travel annually to La Perla to celebrate our anniversary. The experience begins upon arrival when each passenger is confirmed as a guest at the security gate (our driver remarked that he liked this too). Then you gasp a bit when you see the arrival atrium - the structure; art; the aromatherapy; the hand towel! We always choose Reserve La Perla (previously Royal Service): the personalized check-in; age appropriate drinks/snacks in lounge area; concierge; reserve pool; reserve restaurants (La Palapa is AMAZING) allows us to relax, recover, and reconnect. We usually stay in Reserve Junior Suite and opted for a 1BR Deluxe Master Suite. It was a great room. However, it was WAY too large for two people and would have been good to have another toilet. I also prefer to be in the Reserve building where the Junior Suites are located because it is easier to access lounge lobby and closer to pool. A bonus: it smells SO good! Bana was my favorite dinner; La Palapa was my husband's favorite. This is NOT a party resort! Evening entertainment is good enough for us (acoustic guitar; vocalist; DJ; stage shows) after a long day in the sun. Not one meal was a disappointment! Our concierge was Alfonso...WHAT A GEM!!! He consistently sent, via WhatsApp, the activities for the day, spa specials, evening activity, etc. without having to ask. He always checked in to let us know he has arrived for the day and checked in before leaving. And, the special treat he left in honor of our anniversary was magnificent! We ventured to the family side (La Esmeralda) and water park for a bit of action. Ran into a vendor and wanted to give them ALL my money. It was nice to have option of excitement then retreat to the quieter adult side. The non-reserve adult pool is were the action happens at La Perla: exercise; pool party, DJ. However, I would not want a room near that pool because the noise carries and it's not what I want during vacation. We will continue to visit here for our anniversary!

We arrived here three days ago. The property is exquisite! It's sleek and sexy. I would definitely give a 5 star review if not for one major issue. The positives: Beautiful, clean resort. Friendly staff. Excellent food, even at the buffet. I would definitely spend the extra money to come back here again after being at many "standard" all-inclusive resorts. Unfortunately, from the moment we arrived, they immediately tried to extort us for more money. The negatives: After traveling 12 hours to get here we arrived to find out the room we booked: Deluxe Reserve Swim Up Suite was not what we were getting for our honeymoon. Instead, we got the basic hotel room, which is very nice and 100% acceptable, except it's not what we paid for and expected. I showed the staff our emails and receipts that clearly state what we paid for. They immediately tried to up-sell us to the room we already booked. To add insult to injury, they tried to tell us they were going to give a great deal on that suite. It was the advertised full fare. In fact, I think it was even higher than I saw on the website! Clearly, they only care about getting more money from you. This is incredibly insulting. They then proceeded to tell us there is nothing they can do and we need to take it up with the travel agency used to book the resort. Once again, they then tried to up-sell us and get a credit card to charge me for the suite we had already booked. I was told they would try and contact the booking agent: CheapCaribbean and that they also had a representative of Cheap Caribbean on the property that we could speak to the next morning. We were then shown a printout of what they had on file regarding our booking. He highlighted what Cheap Caribbean said we paid in their system. It was a fraction of what we actually paid. This is a clear cut case of Bait and Switch. I tried to keep the printout for our records to show CheapCaribbean and it was promptly snatched out of my hand. We were told that was for internal use only and they could not provide me with any written details of the booking! WTF? Clearly they do not want you to be able to prove that you were scammed and they are willing to go right along with it if it means they can extract another dollar from you. Here we are, several days into our honeymoon, and not one person has addressed this issue. We have left numerous messages and emails for CheapCaribbean who does not respond and the front desk just keeps telling to us to try again. They claim they have not been able to reach them either. As for the representative that supposedly works at the resort? They have yet to be found. The Melia Hotel chain should be ashamed of these blatant deceptive practices. This resort is at 50% occupancy. There is no reason they could not have given us one of the many empty swim up suites, which we clearly paid for. But, they were more than willing to attempt to extort us for more money and they have done nothing to rectify the situation with the vendor they choose to do business with that is intentionally lying to customers and fraudulently changing booking records. Doesn't the fact that they can't reach CheapCaribbean in the last 3 days or find their representative who is supposedly working on site give them pause? Doesn't that reflect poorly on the company as a whole? Wouldn't they want to make their guest feel welcome and do everything they can to resolve such a huge mix-up? I guess that's not how they want to do business. It must be easier or more profitable to go along with the deception and attempt to extort more money from unsuspecting customers. The bottom line is that this resort is beautiful and luxurious and should do everything they can to ensure their customers return. Sadly, they are doing the exact opposite. They are doing nothing to resolve a bad situation that is right in front of them. It would cost them nothing extra to give us the room we paid for and then resolve this issue with their vendor that made a mistake (or perhaps not and this is an intentional and blatant deceptive advertising practice they use all the time). Regardless, I will deal with CheapCaribbean when I return to the States where I can sue them for their fraudulent and deceptive practices. Unfortunately, I can do nothing regarding our present situation with Melia other than warn the thousands of future customers. It's a shame this "5 star resort" doesn't do everything they can to assist their patrons. Instead, they choose the route of actively participating in their extortion of more money rather than trying to resolve a problem. If it helps, we talked to many guests who booked through Costco and are very happy that they got exactly what they paid for. We will take note of that and never do business with CheapCaribbean again. Here area few things the resort could do to improve: When guests are seated at a table to eat, give them silverware. This should be a given, but often it never happens and we have to get up and search for a fork and napkin. Bring coffee and drinks at the beginning of a meal, not at the end when your guest is leaving. You are at 50% occupancy; there is no excuse to be that slow. Also, provide your guests with maps and lists of events/activities. Don't tell them you will take them on a tour the next morning and then not show up. Every guest we talked to here has said the same thing. Don't put guests in a building that has a mini bar in the lobby that they aren't allowed to use. It's an all-inclusive resort for God's sake! There are certain bars you can't use unless you pay extra, which is fine if that's in an "exclusive area". Of course, these bars aren't marked so no new guest is aware that they can't use it until a staff member sees the color of your bracelet and tells you to leave. We feel like pariahs walking to our room because we have to pass through the lounge with a bar that is off limits to us. We even found a little coffee spot that wanted us to pay for a pastry, which was identical to what was in the buffet around the corner! That is absurd, especially for a 5 star resort. Do better.

We stayed at Paradisus La Perla for 8 nights and we absolutely loved the food and the service. Upon arrival, we were upgraded to a suite which had a jacuzzi on the balcony which was a nice touch. Our concierge was Giovanni and he was helpful to make the dinner reservations upon our arrival and he made sure our stay was comfortable. Dora did the entertainment by the pool and we played volleyball and ping pong with her which was a ton of fun. The drinks by the pool are great and the service is even better! The only downside to this resort is THE RESERVE area. If you do not pay to upgrade to The Reserve (which they desperately try to get you to do), you are restricted from accessing a large part of the resort and beach as well as one of the restaurants La Palapa for lunch and dinner. The upgrade is expensive and it isn’t great being made to feel like second class citizens at a resort that is already quite expensive. Other than this, the resort is beautiful, COVID cautious and the rooms are spacious and the food is outstanding! We would try another Paradisus resort on a future vacation for sure!

Surpassed all our expectations. Food gets 4 stars. Room was spacious, very clean with all modern conveniences. Daniel at concierge was always one step ahead of every question we had and visited us 3-4 times a daily. He also was great at recommending restaurants and activities. Alfredo at our pool remembered everything we liked to drink and eat all week long. Elias also was constantly checking with us all day every day , as he did with all guests. Truly amazing staff. Wendy in our favorite restaurant and her crew. Also Sandra in housekeeping. Rebooking now for the spring. Highly recommended
