We got engaged at Banyan Tree! The staff was amazing, the setting was perfect, our villa was beautiful, spa was relaxing, beach was gorgeous, all the good was delicious, the tequila tasting was a lot of fun. Unforgettable trip!

Great resort but very high food and drink prices
We loved our stay at Banyan tree but be aware that the food and beverage prices are very high especially when traveling with young adults. We had a great villa, our sons slept upstairs with their own bathroom and we had a small separate living room which was great, but we felt the food very over priced a regular dinner with some drinks was $400 and breakfast for 4 $200 without the 18% service charge.

The resort is gorgeous, set amongst the mangroves. Riding bikes from the Villa to the beach was great. Staff attentive in providing buggy rides if you didn’t want to bike. Food was great. Villa is the reason you come to this resort. Private pool, outdoor seating, great bathroom. Staff are abundant and always great you with a smile, however, biggest area of improvement needed is service. Many times we witness groups of staff sitting idol on the sides without noticing guest cues for help. Additionally, service in the restaurants was lacking and consistently needed to ask for the same items again and again (water, the two bottle of wine we ordered, menus, etc.). While I’m not in the hospitality industry, but just visiting a Ritz Carlton last month, the resort can likely rectify its issues with some training. Exploring Mayakoba’s master build (bike path, nature walk, boat ride) was also top notch. …

Can someone share the impact (noise, sight, etc) of the construction/renovations and the size of the temporary pool on the beach? I know this question has several answers but most date from when the work had just started 6 months ago. I’d be interested in reviewers that stayed in Oct.-Dec. 2019. Thank you!
Didn’t notice any constellation work at all to be honest. Went in early December.

I saw crocodiles photos of clients?!? Is the lagoon filled with crocs? What protection is there within the hotel not to be face to face with one in my pool?!?
Dear Curious58, Mayakoba is filled with beautiful flora and fauna, which naturally balances the environment that makes this piece of paradise. One of its permanent residents is the crocodile, which feeds of fish that live in the canals amongst other smaller animals. These crocodiles and other species are closely watched by Mayakoba’s biologist, and they will be relocated when they reach a certain age. We can assure you, they will not be interested in your private pool, as they have a larger one of their own with plenty of food. Anyone traveled here with two young kids? We'd be visiting over the holiday this year. Are restaurants family friendly? The current pool situation? Ease of getting around by golf cart? Thanks!

Do they have any Day of the Dead celebrations on at the hotel?
I read that there is construction going on at Banyan Tree. We were planning on going in December but do not want to stay in a resort that is under renovation. Can anyone tell me what they observed recently? The construction was said to begin in July 2019 and end December 2020.
We stayed from July 27- Aug 4th. There is construction on the beach. They are renovating the Sands restaurant and pool, as well as building more beachfront villas. So the temporary pool that they have set up by the beach is pretty small. We stayed in a villa right next to the construction. They have it blocked off so you can't see it, and we never heard any construction noise. I did not see any other construction anywhere else. We were concerned about it before we went, but it was not bothersome at all. I would not let it deter you from going.
