We had an incredible stay! The staff, the food, the location and the bikes! Big thanks to Chef Omar, Manny, Ramon and the entire team for taking such good care of us! Can’t wait to come back - GRACIAS!
Freedom is the key word in this property : the resort is extensive (actually, the whole area hosts 4 large resorts over several sq.kms.), and bicycles are available for free use. Golf carts are ubiquitous as well. Well-respected mangrove is everywhere, with abundant bird life, the beach is wide enough, quite well protected from sargassum. Clean, large, well-appointed rooms. Faultless service, with genuinely kind and professional staff. Excellent breakfast, slightly disappointing dinner options. Really a great place, away from overcrowded Cancun, not far from Playa del Carmen's animation. And renting a car makes it close to Tulum, Chichen Itza, Ik-Kil and other landmarks of the Yucatan peninsula.
Our stay at Andaz was truly amazing, the food at all the restaurants was great, the service was truly amazing especially the staff on the beach. Dining at casa amate was special as well as down by the beach at sotavento. The grounds are very well kept and the getting around the resort is easy with all the bikes and golf carts ready to take you anywhere you want. I can see us going back there year after year!
My husband and I spent four nights at Andaz in December. We regularly visit the Yucatan around that time of year, usually Tulum, but decided to try out Mayakoba for the first time. What we loved: - Our room - we stayed in the beach area in a king room overlooking the lagoon. It was incredibly spacious, clean, with minimal but interesting decor, comfortable seating and lots of storage, and a great shower. - The setting. All four hotels in the development are built no more than a few stories high, with respect for the beautiful lagoons, ocean, and lush vegetation. We typically stay in smaller properties and loved that while the beach got busy around midday, overall the property never felt crowded. - Eco-friendly touches included almost no single-use plastic, quite a few locally-sourced ingredients on the menus, and falcons for pest control - Complimentary SUPs, kayaks, and bicycles for guests. We took advantage of these every day, biking to breakfast and the Saturday market, and taking paddleboards and kayaks out on the calm water. - Easy access to the neighboring properties; we particularly loved two meals at Rosewood, a lunch at Aqui mi Quedo and a prix-fixe beach barbecue. With Rosewood rates starting at double those at Andaz, we felt like we had an excellent value in our stay while still enjoying some of the amenities next door. We also had great service at Fairmont for dinner one evening (posting separate reviews for all of the above). - A few standouts for service and dining - the Sunday brunch at Casa Amate (with cocktails) was excellent and well worth it, especially with the excellent musicians playing in the central room; Carol on the management team addressed one small service issue on our first night and then repeatedly greeted us by name throughout our stay; Paco at Sotavento was charming and attentive, and fun to talk to about wine; Aldo, the guest experience concierge, was warm and helpful and also greeted us daily. - We walked the length of the Mayakoba beaches a few times, and I think Andaz really has the nicest stretch of wide, flat sand and great swimming. What could be better: - There are nowhere near enough tables for the beds on the beach! On a daily basis, we watched a strange shuffle as guests and staff looked for available tables - with an extensive food and drink menu available on the beach, this seems like a pretty simple fix. - As a number of people have mentioned, we had some strange service experiences; none terribly negative, and I think most could be attributed to newer staff (it was early December, just as the season starts to pick up), but odd nonetheless. As mentioned above, there was some confusion with our dinner order on our first night and Carol found us, comped a round of drinks, and then checked in with us repeatedly throughout the evening and our stay. Beach service could be slow (at times absent), though everyone we interacted with was professional while still warm and friendly. - We weren't particularly impressed with breakfast at Cocina Milagro (the only meal we ate there) which seems to cater more to families/less adventurous tastes; Casa Amate brunch was much higher quality and more interesting, dinner at Sotavento was simple but the setting right on the beach is wonderful, and the poolside restaurant is solid for drinks/snacks. Overall, we really enjoyed our stay and the beautiful property. Smoothing out some operational things would make this a five-star rating for sure.…
I enjoyed my stay at Andaz. The resort and room were clean and modern. The staff is very pleasant and genuine. The resort layout is very appealing. The resort is extremely green and beautiful. The lagoon is precious. In terms of value, there are opportunities in the beverage and food department. The pizza for instance is overpriced, a room delivery fee in addition to a minimum of 18% gratuity is excessive. The plain rice bowl at the Mediterranean restaurant is also priced excessively. The quality of the food was great however certain items on the menu were over priced. I enjoyed my stay but could not help but feel that I was overpaying for food and drinks on the premises. Kind Regards,

"I think the lagoon suite is closer to the breakfast place, and less people there at the swimming pool "Read full review
