Just got back from the Wyndham Alltra Cancun and want to share my experience:

I had been reading a lot of negatives in other reviews about the noise, the AC, the wifi, the quality of the drinks, etc. I booked this resort anyway hoping that the overwhelming positive reviews were more the norm. I can safely say that the resort was perfect for my family of 10 (including 4 young grandchildren.)

I have been for much more posh resorts, and if that is your over-riding priority, this is not the resort fo you. However, if you want a good value for your hard-earned vacation cash, the Wyndham Alltra will hit the mark. There are several dining options (more later), 2 pools and some water slides that my grandkids LOVED!

Let me address the concerns that I had read in other reviewer's comments.

NOISE: Yes, it's a resort, and there will be noise at the pools of people partying. The hallways are concrete/cement so sound will bounce off the walls. Not a big deal. The AC was a little noisy, but nothing that we could not contend with.

OVERALL ACCOMODATIONS: As I stated, I've been to posher resorts, but the rooms I booked (3 in total) were all really nicely appointed. Beds were comfortable, bathroom and amenities were totally satisfactory. Nice touch that there were robes in the room. No signs of mildrew or anything else negative that I had read in others' reviews. I did notice worked on the property tidying up and doing routine maintenance all throughout our stay, so the resort is kept in top shape. I also had no problem with housekeeping, as we were serviced each day of our stay and did not have to call down to the front desk for anything.

ACTIVITIES: They publish a list of the daily activities on the app you access via a QR code. (and the wifi was a little spotty in certain parts of the resort, but in the main building, and rooms, the wifi was fine.) We did not participate in too many of the activities, just went along with the flow, especially with the little ones, but they did enjoy the pizza making. We did not send the kids to Camp Alltra, as we preferred to spend the time in the pool and beach with them (and they had a great time just swimming and water sliding and sand castle building).

DINING: I have been to many all-inclusive properties, and sometimes the food is hit and miss. This is not gourmet dining by any stretch of the imagination, but the is plenty of choices for dining here. I can imagine if you stay for 5 or more days, you might get bored at the options. When we first checked in and got to our room to change from NYC winter clothes in something more Cancun-friendly, we needed some sustenance right away, as we hadn't eatyen since our early morning flight. We had lunch in Ventanas, and there were plenty of buffet options for everyone's tastes. We also had breakfast here 2 mornings. Again, plenty of choices. Omelets, prepared eggs and some Mexican dishes alongside oatmeal, cereals, fresh fruit, French toast, pancakes, etc.

I think our favorite little dining spot was the Mexican Cafe, a coffee shop right off the lobby near the elevators. Had many great cappuchinos, and my kids and wife had other coffee treats. The coffee was actually really really good,. They also had assorted sandwiches and pastries. And it was open 24/7.

We had VIP access and there was a lounge on the 6th floor that served top-shelf alcohol, and had some bites as well (sushi, cheese, etc). I only wish it was open later than 10pm, so we could have had a nightcap there.

The main bar was open until midnight, and there was entertainment there nightly (including a rowdy crowd for karaoke one night). The football (American and the football that we call soccer) was on the large screen TVs. Yes, the drinks seemed to not be that potent (and I did watch the bartenders pour lots of alcohol into each drink. Not a problem... make it a double! The poolside bar was never too crowded and always willing to pour our favorites.

The taco stand down by the beach had some seriously awesome tacos (4 or 5 different fillings to choose from).

Other reviewers have mentioned that you need to get to the restaurants as soon as they open for dinner, or you will have long wait (and they do not take reservations). With no kids in tow, dining late is not an issue for our family but we needed to eat on the early side. The first night, we tried to get into the Italian restaurant, and there was an hours-long wait, so we went to Azul, the Asian-themed restaurant, located near the pool. Perhaps because we ordered apps and mains all at once, the service was somewhat discombobulated. There were some dishes that we ordered that never came to the table. But we were hungry, especially the kids, and we ate what did come to the table. The calamari was pretty good, but the other dishes were just not very good. Edible, yes, but nothing extraordinary. We didn't stay there for desert, instead going upstairs to Ventana to sit down and just grab desert items.

We ate poolside at At Sunset the second night of our stay. A couple of us had steak, and it was very tasty. The rest of the food was decent as well - I can't remember all the different dishes we had for the 6 adults. The service here was very good, water refilled, wine poured and poured.

On our final evening I came down to the Italian restaurant to put my name on the wait list while everyone else got ready for dinner. They were able to seat us at 7pm (we were facing a more than 2-hour wait the previous evening), and had a lovely meal here. I had a chicken dish that contained prosciutto and mozzarella that was tasty. Most of us had the Caprese appetizer. We ordered several pizzas that the kids ate. Everyone seemed happy with their dinner choices. And they brought out a Happy Birthday desert for my wife. Nice touch.

We didn't dine in the Mexican restaurant.

POOLS: We are early risers (especially with little kids), so we went down to the pool first thing to claim our chaise lounges for the day. No problem getting 8 chairs next to each other even though the resort was pretty full. Typically, we started at the pool in the morning, then wandered down to the beach, then finally to the other pool where the pirate ship and water slides are located. One morning my wife and 2 daughters-in-law came down to the pool at 7am for sunrise Yoga.

Every member of the staff that we interacted with was friendly and I can't think of anything negative about the entire experience. It was a great birthday celebration/long weekend getaway for my entire family.

We got married at Panama Jack Cancun in November 2019. We took a risk and booked our wedding without visiting the venue/hotel first and we are so happy we did! We went with their Catholic package for our wedding. Their chapel is as breathtaking as it appears in photos. The packages come with bare minimum but their vendors have pretty much anything you could imagine to create a beautiful wedding. If you have a special vendor in mind, their outside vendor fees do not make it worth it to use your own vendor but they are straightforward about all costs. We were assigned a new coordinator right before we got there and Mariana was so great to work with! She was very sweet, reassuring, thorough, and made everything run smoothly on our big day. The only downside was that weddings end at 10pm promptly. However, the weddings details came together so perfectly and absolutely exceeded our expectations. We were floored at how beautifully everything came together. The food and staff were great, the cake was absolutely delicious, and the vendors were individually great to work with! Mariana made everything so easy for us, there was very little stress and everything was taken care of the day of our wedding even though there was a forecast for rain on our wedding day. This was not surprising as they communicated very well during the planning phase, as well.
The resort is very beautiful and has a wide variety of restaurants and bars. The beach is absolutely beautiful and well kept- we did not have concerns about the seaweed even though it is supposed to be bad during that season. There are two buffet restaurants and we went to 2 of the 3 a la carte restaurants. Ventanas was by far a favorite for us and our guests! They make it easy to have large parties and the food is great-they have everything from seafood, meats, salad and fruit bars, and the best breakfast! For the à la carte restaurants, Casa de Rosa (Mexican) was really food and the service is excellent. We made friends with a waiter, Benjamin, and he made our experience there very special!

The rooms were very beautiful but housekeeping did not always come to restock needs for our guests. However, they were quick to respond when we brought it to their attention. I would definitely invest in the oceanfront views if that is important to you because there is a difference between different parts of resorts.

We would love to go back and would absolutely recommend having a wedding there!

I arranged ahead of time for Panama Jacks to pick me up & take me back when I leave for $80 bucks. To me its worth it, and its about a 30 minute drive to the hotel. The inside of the hotel is really nice, and very open, there literally are no front doors to the hotel lobby. The people at the front desk will absolutely try to sell you on an upgrade. Since I was getting engaged during this stay I figured why not. I already had an all inclusive package, but spent another $900 bucks on the upgrade which gave you a great room with an indoor jacuzzi, and a great view of the pool, the ocean, you also got use of the VIP room that had food and drink throughout the day and even had a pool table (pool cues need to be fixed) and a great view of the other side of the water.

Every night there was a show to go to, the first night was a dinner and Magic show and I thought it was great, another night a Latin Dance show (really great dancers), and another night sort of a Mini Circ du Soleil show, all of them were great considering it was free. Lots of families with kids.

During the day at the pool they had activities from exercise in the pool, music trivia, Volleyball, you name it. My advise is get up early and reserve a place to sit at the pool and the same thing for the beach. The beach was great and clean, but the waves can be rough. Getting a place on the beach in a cabanas you have to reserve & it cost $50 bucks for the day but includes champagne, beer, water, cokes in a cooler and Hamburgers/Hotdogs. They also had a gym (Free) which I used and a Spa for a fantastic massage (not free).

Overall the food was okay, except the one night we had a special dinner on the beach where i proposed to my GF and that dinner was fantastic, again not free but to me worth it.

There are places to eat the Italian was good and especially Filburto our server, top notch guy. One place was Asian buffet, another would have Hamburgers and hotdogs during the day right by the pool, another was Mexican food which I did not try. The breakfast buffet was also good, you could even get omlets made to order. If your going to have Italian dinner be there at 5 or 5:30 because it gets crowded fast and then you will have to come back later with a reservation time.

Get on a bus for less then a dollar and explore Cancun. I found a Walmart, Applebees, Sams Club & a Bubba Gumps you can walk to.

My favorite person was Gabriela Leon (concierge) who went out of her way to make our trip great!!

We booked this trip through a local travel agent and so all arrangements were made well in advance (including shuttle to and from the resort, room type, payment). We chose an all inclusive package with a Ocean Front Junior Suite and stayed for 5 nights. As soon as we arrived to the resort, they had all the information. Check in was smooth. ALL staff are very friendly and professional and go out of their way to make you feel like you are on vacation. The food (at all restaurants) was excellent and had different cuisines. The room was AMAZING. Perfect view of the ocean and (sunrise). The room was about 10 steps to the beach, it was SO close. There is a lovely balcony with hammock to sit and relax if you want. Room was very CLEAN each day and mini bar (alcoholic/non alcoholic + snacks) were replenished daily. They had daily entertainment in the evening for about an hour (magic show, salsa dancing, etc) which was fun. After that they had live music at the lobby bar also fun and entertaining. Check out process was easy and we were able to check out a bit late (no extra fee) and leave our luggage in a safe place for few hours until we had to leave for our flight. Overall, I would definitely recommend booking this place through a travel agent (to avoid any hassles) and I would FOR SURE stay here again!

Panama Jack Cancun is an average resort. Overpriced honestly, small physical outside space with a lot of rooms which makes it overcrowded. One pool shared with a bunch of people. The service from the staff was phenomenal and the facility is kept very clean. Mixed reviews on the food which is expected for a resort. Food options are average.

Pros-
Clean
Great service from staff, attentive and helpful
Great location, convenient to shopping, restaurants, and nightlife
Good food at the Mexican restaurant
Family friendly
Entertaining

Cons-
Overpriced
Crowded
1 pool
Few lunch options
Asian restaurant food was terrible not fresh made
Loud in the high rise building, during the day you can hear the noise from the pool area and noise from kids and people walking, running and yelling in the hallway
Small crowded beach

Not the best option for a couples trip, more suitable for a family trip. We were comfortable and content for the time being but I won’t be returning. I wish I did more research and wasn’t rushing to book. Overall not worth over $350 per night, $400 at most! Which we paid well over that per night.

I am not a picky traveler, and have been to 65+ countries. Mexico was one of the last countries on my list. Very disappointed with this resort. Very dirty rooms, non-existent customer service and only two restaurants open.

Staff:
Generally not attentive and struggle to fulfill the most basic of tasks when requested. While very friendly and kind, it does appear the resort is either short staffed or just unable to deal with small number of guests staying here. I never was able to get my minibar refilled.

Pool:
The pool was always crowded with children and had loud DJ music playing.

Food and restaurants:
The food served here is absolutely a disaster. You’re better off heading into town to eat because whether it is the Italian restaurant or in-suite dining; your food will always be delivered cold.

I stayed here over 9 nights and not a single meal was hot or even lukewarm. Why pay resort prices in order to eat cold food?

Rooms:
I booked a junior suite with an ocean view overlooking the pool. I had to request a different room due to the loud music and noise. The pillows are very lumpy, the beds are uncomfortably and the lighting is in the rooms is really bad. The furniture has marks of extensive damage, and you may find hair on the pillows from previous guests.

Balcony overlooking ocean view:
The balcony chair and table were NOT cleaned due to the amount of human hair I found on the chairs and the orange colored grease on the table. Thankfully the hotel provides sanitizing wipes so you clean it yourself because clearly the housekeeping staff failed to.

Minibar:
The minibar was not refilled once while staying here over 7 days so far. I gave up on asking for it to be refilled since I asked everyday for SEVEN DAYS including asking the Concierge AND housekeeping about it. Why did I book this resort again?

Overall impression:
Do. Not. Stay. Here. No idea how this resort is still in business in COVID times considering the dirty rooms, cold food and the constant asks for “upgrades.” I was barely able to the staff to deliver bottled water to my room and I never did figure out how to get the minibar restocked since nobody was able to fulfill it.

Dear Mrcoffeenerves, We are obviously hugely disappointed and concerned while reading your uncharacteristic review as it does not fall in line in any way shape or form with our uncompromisingly staunch commitment to personable excellence of which the overwhelming majority of our reviews attest to. We aim to create memorable experiences and it is that commitment which has led to such flourishing feedback from the majority of our guests. While any number of inconveniences can happen during ones stay, it is rare that we miss the mark by this much, and it is unfortunate that you haven't communicated your preference as we would be more than happy to accommodate you on the spot. Allow me to ensure you that our Executive Committee is looking into your comments and will look for areas of improvement based on them. We do hope this experience doesn't diminish your preference for Panama Jack Resorts. Best regards, Silvestre V., General Manager

We stayed in one of the swim up rooms over Christmas 2019 and it was absolutely fantastic, I would recommend paying that little bit extra and staying in one of these rooms. With these rooms you have multiple options to utilise the sun bed on your patio with shared infinity pool, take a bed on the beautiful white sandy beach or sit around the pool, each option comes with a waiter delivering drinks all day!!
The staff were absolutely brilliant in every area of the hotel, they were friendly and couldn't do enough to help you.
The food is excellent in the buffet and even better in the Mexican and Italian restaurants. If you like a big steak you can order a huge Tomahawk for an additional charge (but well worth it).
We met some lovely people in the rooms next to us that we will stay in touch with and they really made our holiday extra special.
Would highly recommend this hotel to anyone.
We have been to Cancun five times and this was definitely the best hotel we have stayed in overall.

Panama Jack Cancun - laid back resort, very clean, and very friendly staff everywhere. The room view was over the pool and to the ocean - rarely was it too loud. There were times that people put towels on pool seats, and I never saw them being used. Someone from the resort should remove towels since "chair hogs" weren't around for hours. The VIP area was nice to play pool or sit and relax out of the sun, but not stuck in your room. I loved our bathroom shower, and LOVED the coffee shop! Nightly entertainment could be improved, but this was an enjoyable and relaxing stay. I would recommend it.

Traveling during the pandemic was a choice we made after much consideration and the kind of place we'd want to stay would have to be reassuring at a minimum. So we booked 3 nights at Panama Jack out of a 7 day trip. We wanted to keep our options open if we were not satisfied.
The way the hotel is organized around sanitary measures was re-assuring from the moment we stepped out of the taxi and into the hotel lobby.
Even though not the most modern, room are nice (we recommend getting one of the ocean front ones as it gives you the feeling of being in a cottage right on the beach, totally helps with disconnecting faster from the work mindset).
There are 3 pools (kids love the options with fun super hero statues), a mini golf, barbecue by the pool late afternoon, many options for where to settle on the beach and plenty of everything all the time.
The best part was how kind and attentive the staff was. For instance we were particularly well taken care of by the waiters Martin (in the breakfast and lunch restaurant) and Marcelino (in the Mexican evening restaurant). They always remembered the kind of drinks we liked, the table we wanted to sit at. Super nice to our child as well and very appropriately funny.
In terms of other staff, if you get your favorite coffee cup, make sure Fatima or Norma are the ones making it for you: perfect foam, tasty even though I take it with non-dairy.
I also highly recommend getting a massage. I opted for a deep tissue. I asked for 50 min with the option of increasing to 80 (I've had plenty of massages and know pretty quickly if it is worth me staying on the table for an excruciating 50 min of uselessness or a delicious and healing 80 minutes of my life). I had Liliana and she is apparently the best for deep tissue which I would totally agree with. With a couple of decades of professional experience (I always inquire about that and the kind of training they got), she could read my body and focus on what the knots were. I also chose to have the massage by the beach instead of in the spa which was fantastic.
The beach, turquoise water and turtles (at night) are there for you, unconditionally. But what made the difference in the end was how we were treated and the fact that we'd love to book at this hotel again.

Have been to this resort twice now and are planning another trip. You just cannot beat the atmosphere here. It is on the smaller side compared to most of the other resorts but that gives it more of a familiar feeling. There are plenty of activities and entertainment options, however not enough to make it feel like a constant college party (which we are not looking for). The beachfront walk out suites are one of a kind. Open your sliding door and have the beach at your toe tips, the section of beach that this resort occupies cannot be beat. The service is outstanding from the time you arrive until the time you depart. Hector is very pleasant and helpful with luggage and finding your accomodations. Front desk staff are very willing to make your stay as comfortable as possible. The rooms are spotless and have wonderful touches from housekeeping, Anivett left us little surprises daily as well as was very helpful with special requests (beverage selections for diabetic). Paola was our slice of sunshine daily (besides the actual wonderful sunshine daily). Greeted us every day out on our patio with wonderful smile and excellent patio/beach/poolside service. Our margaritas never ran dry. Food options are endless, the al a cartel restaurants were excellent as well as the buffet restaurants. There was something to please all pallets.

Is the Wyndham ultra an adults only resort?

Negative. I think there's a 25+ resort adjacent that has some similar access, but the Wyndham Altra Cancun is all ages.

I believe the cost depends on how many people or rooms you are booking and should indicate per person. Yes, you are allowed to use the facilities before and after check out.

They started charging at the candy shop for the scooped Gelato in March. We were there when they switched. You can still get soft serve there and ice cream at the restaurants. Very odd thing to change. If it's too expensive just stick to the ice cream
