Went on a couples trip & the whole experience was very lively. The drinks were strong & the music was great. Lots of events near the pool & drinking games. The ocean was calm and perfect depth for swimming or lounging all day. Every single waiter/bartender was amazing & by the second day they recognized us and remembered our drink orders. We would come out and sit by the pool or the beach & they would come by within minutes with rounds of our favorite tequila shots!! Food was… okay. My favorite part of all inclusive hotels is usually the food but the poolside buffet was so nasty. Bland American food. The best restaurants were the steakhouse & Italian. Bars closed early, no night life at the hotel. Sometimes they had game night or shows but after, by 10pm everything was quiet. It’s an all adult hotel, there should be music & drinks later. The pool also closed SUPER early. We were left bored in our room at the end of every night.

This was my first time to an RIU and it did not disappoint at all. The staff were great. They always went out of their way to get anything I wanted. The grounds are amazing. The bar staff…Ernesto, NATO, breakfast staff Ismael, all great people. The women on staff were also great. My check in day saw bad weather and a pool cleaning but that all changed the next day when the sun came out. Met a great group of 20, 30, 40 and 50 somethings. It’s in a great location to get souvenirs and food down the road via flip flops.

Pros: Beautiful resort. Gorgeous room. Congenial staff that all try their best. Very clean. Good food. Great main bar. Great shopping across the street. White flour like sand and amazing ocean entry. No seaweed. Fun poolside staff and great water aerobics. Truly adults only. Cons: If you like walking the beach, this resort has a miniscule almost landlocked beach you can cover in seconds. Pre-cooked breakfast foods at the buffet were often cold. Wine bottles are not left at the table or in the room. Buffet staff are not managed well. At times there is a crew standing bored waiting to seat you yet other times they're all doing table clean up rather than addressing diners' needs. The serenity pool has limited sun. More likely to see loud rowdy non-tipping folks than at a higher end resort. If you've never been to a resort in Mexico, you'll still enjoy this place but if you've been to a 5 star place you will find faults. At the end of the day, our number one biggest issue was the lack of walkable beach. That being said, after speaking to other traveler's, Riu has some practices that are common to their resorts that the experienced traveler may find suboptimal or annoying. There are limitations built into the system such as specific hours of service, a certain interpretation of snacks and which alcoholic drinks are offered and how and a similarity of food offerings. It's about 1/2 hour to the airport. You will need to arrange transportation in advance on your own.

From the moment I arrived at the check in desk I felt the warmth and caring of the hotel staff. They treated me like I was a special guest. I was given a room on the 7th floor with a spectacular view of the Caribbean. The room was a junior suite, and was much larger than I had expected. The room was very clean, and it was cleaned and made up every day. The food was amazing! We ate at all but one of the restaurants and were not disappointed with any of them. The concierge services on site had every type of activity for reasonable rates. We were there 6 nights and didn't want to leave. A wonderful vacation!

Overall, very enjoyable, hotel is a bit old school design wise but generally good albeit probably due for a refurbishment in the next few years (quite a bit of patching up has been done, generally very well but visible). Good things well the hotel is fastidiously clean due to the hard work of the staff, whilst we are on the staff very good, excellent service all round, always polite, and industrious. I spoke to a few of the other guess who commented on how clean the hotel was as well plus 1 x guy from Canada who was a regular Cancun visitor and he said that hotel was the only one in Cancun he knew of where he didn't know anyone who'd ever had stomach issues and he put that down to the hygiene standards in that hotel, quite a recommendation and a real feather in the cap of this hotel, nothing ruins your holiday quite like being ill. All-inclusive is a genuine all inclusive, no silly exception / extra things to pay for selected services up and beyond things you wouldn't expect (i.e., clothes cleaning and drying, chargeable but you expect that, I've only ever been in 1 x hotel in my life where cleaning and drying was included in the price and that was some crazy luxurious place in China). Good selection of beers and spirits and branded things you've heard of albeit if you’re a connoisseur of the finer spirits you might find the whiskies, brandies and rum's not quite to the standards your palate has become accustomed to, fine for the masses though. Entertainment was a mixed bag but generally good, although if you are there for 2 weeks like we were you did start to spot the common theme and repetition. As for the plus's and minus's well the hotel (and Cancun generally from a holidaymaking perspective) is occupied by American's and Canadian's, this is bad in respect of the usual issues with our across the pond neighbours in that they are noisy by British standards, also with this in mind the food is set up for their palate so you can expect things to be a little too sweet and too salty for the British palate (depending on your age, older folks will find this, the younger generations are having the palate attuned to US tastes so maybe not so much for them) however the choice is wide so you've plenty of things to try, we had no issue finding plenty of things to eat and my partner is pescatarian with a vinegar allergy (which did stop us dining in the A' la carte restaurants but fine in the buffet). Usually another issue with the American's is that they do tend to moan a lot on holiday and we did hear a bit of that (especially in the restaurant with the staff, some of the people at the omelette station were ridiculous, thought 1 x woman was talking to a dog whilst asking the lady cooking the omelettes to literally burn the eggs black despite this being an idiosyncrasy only she had, seem to think the lady cooking the omelette was a mind reader who should have known this..!), not such an issue as the hotel was set up for American service levels and food tastes the American's were pretty chilled out by comparison to other holiday's I've been on where American's have been there in numbers. So now minuses:- 1. Noise - very difficult to get anywhere genuinely quiet in this hotel whilst sun bathing, lots of noise pretty much wherever you go whether that be in the officially noisy area where the hotel supplied music was coming from or away from that where people seem to think it’s acceptable to play their own music either from phone's, personal speakers etc..basically lots of noisy pollution and really not a lot you can do about it. Suggestion - Have a "quiet area" where no personal music is allowed for those who just want to relax. 2. Sun bed policy - although not a huge issue at this hotel (because there are quite a lot of beds and the American's don't tend to get up early and nab the beds) very annoying that people were taking sun beds early in the morning and literally not using them all day, had a couple of days when we got some of the really nice sun bed's around the infinity pool nearest to the hotel and some days some of those beds (there are only 8 of them in total) were left unused with towels on them all day, Suggestion - have a 2 hour rule whereby if the bed isn't used for this period a member of staff removes the towels (and any books / sun glasses left on the beds) and frees the beds up for use by others. 3. Tea - Sounds trivial but for us Brits / European's we aren't used to black tea which is the only standard tea served (a variety of flavoured / classic tea's like Darjeeling are available), I was ok with it, my partner struggled as it tasted bitter to her. Also, if we forgot to ask for "tea with milk" and just answered the question "Tea or Coffee" with "Tea please" then they won't bring you any milk. Suggestion - some "English Breakfast" tea as an option please. 4. Bed's - found them very uncomfortable, might have been just me thus I'm not making a big deal about it but not impressed by the beds at all. suggestion - Offer some kind of soft mattress topper option to take away the hardness of the beds, needs to be optional as some people might like a really hard bed. Note for "3" above if you are coming then put some tea bags in your luggage and take them to the dining room with you, can't use them in your room as there are no kettle's just coffee percolators which don't get hot enough to make a brew. In summary very happy with the holiday overall, gave it 4/5 because of the few issues above and the need for a refurb soon in some areas of the hotel (bearing in mind it’s a 5 star hotel, this comment is being made with that in mind), would certainly recommend it to anyone however if it were me coming again and the price was comparative the Riu Peninsula might be a better option certainly to deal with the noise issue (which was the main gripe I had), access to a larger beach at that hotel and the other Riu (Carribe) is next door so you've 2 x hotel's to go at for a bit of variety. However, if this was my only Riu option in Cancun next time I came I wouldn't be too disappointed..!

Once again the RIU did not let us down. We had a fantastic two weeks at this hotel and the service, food and daytime entertainment was brilliant. The breakfast was without question one of the best we have had in an all inclusive. A great choice and catered for very western tastes. Dinner time and lunch time were also good and the service was excellent. Only thing I would suggest is to have a self service coffee machine in the restaurant. The speciality restaurants were good and enjoyed but not enough to visit more than once. Daytime entertainment was constant from 10am until 5pm and was first class, again one of the best we have seen. The only negative for us was the nighttime entertainment, it was very poor and finished very early. Not a reason not to visit as you can safely walk about outside, but if you like dance shows and miming to songs then it may suit, but not for us. Beaches were lovely and the cleanliness of the hotel was first class. Only minor thing was the dampness in the rooms, which made our clothes smell musty. After 2 weeks in the wardrobe my wife's leather jacket had mould on it. All in all though this is a fantastic hotel and would recommend. One thing we did learn which was nothing to do with the hotel, is take Pesos with you. Do not take US Dollars, they have your pants down big time when they convert it from Pesos to Dollars. I think a lot of people don't get it as they do also sometimes quote prices in US dollars. Believe me they are laughing at you taking Dollars and they will love you for it.

I'll start with the pros Good location Nice Beach Lovely staff Now the cons This is a party hotel don't be fooled in to thinking it is anything else Constant noise and partying from around 10 am in the morning until late at night People so drunk that they have to have a wheel chair to take them back to the room . 3 in on day was the record. People drunk and asleep in the reception area Someone was sick in the party pool so the pool was closed for the afternoon. A drunk person trying to access our room because they so drunk they didn't realise where they were. On barbecue day plates are left by the pool and beach for days for birds to feed on and we saw the biggest rat we have ever seen the one day One night a wireless speaker was allowed in to the bar area to play some 'guests' own music , spoiling the atmosphere for everyone else. We questioned this with the TUI rep and hotel management who informed us that every hotel in Mexico is the same. So if you are looking for a tranquil 5 star break then look elsewhere as you won't get it here

Dear MJC123, We are sorry to read we could not fulfil your expectations in some areas, we really thank you for having chosen our resort for your stay. As we strongly believe that our guests come first, we regret to learn we were not able to control the undesirable behaviour of some guests, who seem to respect rules in their country but not when they visit ours. Moreover, it is absolutely saddening for us to witness that, after all the new measures and laws that are being applied in order to stop these unwanted behaviours, different gorgeous destinations around the world are being abused and disrespected, by visitors that would never dare to behave in such manner in their country of origin. Best Regards, Hotel RIU Palace Las Américas Online Reputation Manager

All I can really say is that we had a fantastic time, the hotel was clean, the food was excellent, with a fantastic variety, the hotel entertainment team were lovely and very good at their jobs, there was something to do every hour, and the team encouraged lots of participation which was lovely, the pools were lively or quiet depending on what you wanted, the beach was lovely, and the sand was so soft, we went on a few trips, but the best one was the explor trip zip lining, swimming through caves and buggy rides over sandy rough tracks we booked this in the hotel
