This JW has very professional front line service staff and an impressive pool area. Sadly my experience was severely let down by the complete disregard for Bonvoy loyalty membership. As a Titanium Bonvoy member I was allocated a room directly next to the construction area (heavy construction noise from 9am to 6pm). Charged for any breakfast items beyond basic continental options and refused the majority of Titanium level benefits (including lounge access) from day one to check out. The experience was made all the worse by refusal of a hard earned Suite Night Award when there was clearly room inventory available prior to check in. Priority is given to property revenue over loyalty here. If you’re looking for recognition of hard earned loyalty from the last 12 months, book another Marriott property. Astonishing that a JW flagship property can get away with avoiding all Bonvoy obligations.

Our visit at the JW Marriott Cancun Resort and Spa was absolute perfection! Every inch of the resort was spotless, the staff was incredibly friendly and helpful, the amenities were unparalleled, the food (and drink😀) was phenomenal - I just cannot say enough other than I cannot wait to take my entire family there soon! WE stayed for New Years Eve, Ano. We came from a disappointing stay in Playa de Carmen. Stepping in we felt at home. The front desk was amazing. Concierge was very helpful. Property is beautiful, clean and relaxing. Felt very safe during COVID. We have planned a return trip for this summer.

Another fabulous visit to the JW. There is a reason I keep coming back, and a consistently high level of service is at the top of the list. All staff members are kind and go out of their way to make your stay comfortable. Hector at Gustinos, Manuel, Ricardo and Sergio at the pool bars - all of them fabulous! We were there mid week, and it was glorious! Walked right into the gym no problem and no wait. Found a place under a Cabana at the adult pool and it was so peaceful! We were not there over the weekend, so did not get to enjoy the DJ music at the adult pool, but the quiet vibe was just what we needed. We loved our drinks and the fabulous entertainment at the Lobby Bar, singing along to some of the tunes! We ate at Gustinos, and as usual it was stellar. Awesome service by Hector, and amazing ambience with a quiet saxophone player in the foyer. Gorgeous! I loved their new bar carved out inside Gustinos, and wish I knew about that earlier, as we would have been there for sure for drinks on an earlier night. A trip to the Spa and soothing hot tub closed out a great trip. Our room was beautifully updated with a beautiful view of the water and pools. Yes, there is still a few more rooms they are working on in the renovation (adult pool side, corner of floors 10-14) but they are almost finished! And the noise was minimal - heard faintly and only at times if you were at the adult pool. We were there in June, and that month is famous for seaweed in Cancun. But the JW did a great job of cleaning each morning, and a walk down Hotel Zone reveals JW does the BEST job in cleaning and raking as compared to all other hotels. The water was a beautiful clear blue, and the sun shining on the waves made the whole JW views spectacular.

I've stayed in this property for 10 years believing that it would get better someday. I now know that it wouldn't. Impossible to relax because of the construction noise and the obnoxious DJ music all over the resort. The food at Gustino was disgusting. The front desk staff was rude and very unknowledgeable. They attempt to upsell the suites to white, heterosexual couples at check-in -- so if you don't fit that description, you are stuck in a small room right beside the construction. I couldn't even get an upgrade even though I am Titanium elite member AND willing to pay for it AND had been staying there since March 2011. All because I am a gay, person of color. Speaking of bigotry, one day, all the white guests immediately got out of the pool when a Black family started swimming. See pic. It was nauseating to see it in 2021! That's the type of guests this hotel invites. On my first week there, a gym staff member harassed me while I was running on a treadmill 500 feet away from two other maskless white guests in the gym and demanded that I wear a mask. But he left the other two maskless while guests alone. It isn't coincidental that he picked on the person of color in the room. I told the hotel about this harassment and they brushed it off as if it was something they promote there. The ocean was packed with smelly seaweed and the hotel isn't doing anything to clean it up. See pic. It was disgusting. I couldn't even get the shower to run because the knob keeps on breaking and I had to keep on reattaching it. See pic. Guests don't wear masks in the hotel lobby and elevators but nobody does anything to make them comply with COVID-19 rules. The concierge staff (e.g., Angel) likes to help only white guests and pretended not to see my brown skin when I am waiting to be helped RIGHT IN FRONT OF HIM. The elevators take forever -- and when they open, they are packed with people not wearing masks. So wait another 15 minutes for the next one. And if you decide to still stay there, make sure you get vaccinated for hepatitis A -- and please take this warning seriously. This hotel doesn't deserve its kind staff, including Miguel Chan and Gilberto Hernandez. They are too good for this place. And so are you.
