I have just spent a week here on a photography course. Giles and Louise are the perfect hosts and their offer to their guests is excellent in all respects. Truly the perfect place to stay in the ariege!

I recently spent a week at Manzac d'en Bas with a painting group; it was one of the best holidays I have had. The setting is fantastic and takes your breath away on arrival, and my lovely
room had a view of the Pyranees. Louise fed us superbly and Giles organised our days by ferrying us (and the easels and chairs!) to and from the painting venues, and bringing us wonderful picnic lunches. Giles and Louise and their two children are delightful, and could not have done more to make the stay so memorable.

It was a first for a painting holiday and a first at Manzac and what an experience. No worries, no decisions to make just wonderfully looked after by Giles and Louise with delightful facilities and wonderful food and by Sue Deighton, our tutor for a memorable painting experience. We were taken by Giles to delightful places where our vision and imaginations grew and with the help of Sue undreamed of painting levels were achieved by us all. Then after wonderful days, the evenings followed where conversation abounded throughout long memorable meals. I will certainly jump at the opportunity to go again.

I have just spent a wonderful 6 days at Manzac on a Landscape Photography course with Image Seen. The Gite proved the perfect place to stay with brilliant hosts, Giles and Louise. They have obviously worked so hard to design and build accommodation that is suited to courses and holidays and in a most beautiful location. The catering by Louise was excellent - cuisine that used French local produce but with a British twist. Giles was our driver and travel guide with an intimate knowledge of the area showing how much time he has spent in getting to know the area in order to offer travel advice on what to see and where to go. I also enjoyed the salt pool with its lovely view towards the snow-capped mountains.
I was so looking forward to this trip that I was afraid it may not live up to my expectations. In fact it didn't - it surpassed it by a long way!
I cannot recommend this venue highly enough - a true gem of a destination in a relatively unknown part of France . Thank you for a lovely time!

I stayed at Manzac d'en Bas while on an Image Seen photographic holiday run by Sarah Howard.

Giles & Louise are a delightful couple, excellent hosts, and nothing seemed too much effort!
The gite, which they have built themselves from almost nothing, is beautiful with wonderful views of the Pyrenees.
Giles drove us to sites organised with Sarah as particularly suitable for landscape and travel photography. One day he gave us a delicious barbecue for lunch, other days we ate out at lunch or in the gite. Louise provided great food in the evenings - I think I've put on a few kilos :(

I couldn't fault them, the location or the service provided.

HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!

These Gites are located in a beautiful and very quiet area, looking at the Pyrenees, and endless fields of sunflowers and corn.

We were welcomed by Giles and Louise who also introduced us to the other guests, and made us feel immediately at home.

The Gite was very spacious and fully equipped with everything we needed. We were given a folder with very detailed and useful information on activities, shopping and dining options in the area, with personal recommendations by the owners.

The pool and the grounds are very large, and well maintained, and are watching over beautiful and peaceful views.

The area is not packed with family attractions, which is a good thing, as the ones you will find there are of high quality, and although we traveled on the peak season we didn’t encounter a single queue or traffic jams.

A perfect place for a family summer vacation!

Louise and Giles were wonderfully welcoming. They hosted a lovely ‘getting to know you’ evening which set the scene for their excellent hosting throughout our week there, including a fantastic day watching the Tour de France go by. Our accommodation was outstanding; well-equipped, very comfortable and the grounds were brilliant for outdoor eating. We had very hot weather but the beautiful pool was ideal for cooling down. We visited surrounding towns, vineyards and markets, all on the recommendation of our hosts. We highly recommend Manzac d’en Bas for a relaxing holiday with stunning views.

I attended a course on Botanical Art in Coloured Pencils with Ann Swan at the end of September 2014 and should like to echo all the superlatives used by previous contributors to this page in respect of the setting, views, comfort, food and weather at Manzac d'en Bas. The studio in which we worked is glorious with huge windows and views towards the Pyrenees and we made full use of the grounds: swimming in the pool, sitting reading in the swinging tree seats, just lazing in the sun or having evening drinks around the fire in the fire pit watching the sun set over the Pyrenees. Giles took us out in the minibus for several trips: local markets, a grotto big enough to drive through, a pottery and a full day involving a strenuous walk up to a Cathar Castle and an underground boat trip amongst stalagmites and stalactites - not for the faint-hearted.. The secret ingredient in the success of Manzac d'en Bas is the devotion of Giles and Louise to making their guests comfortable and happy. Nothing was ever too much trouble.

We stayed with a large family party for the last two weeks of the English summer holidays. Our party consisted of ages from 4 to 70 and I can honestly say that there was something for everyone. We had the most fabulous time at Manzac d'en Bas. The children loved the pool, begged for a fire in the fire pit and were able to run around using up most if not all of their plentiful energy each day, badminton, ping pong etc. The few days it did rain we were able to make use of the well equipped Gites which accommodated us all comfortably and the excellent set up and planning ensured that we were not on top of each other. The adults thoroughly enjoyed cycling into the beautiful surrounding hills and discovered some fantastic markets. We also enjoyed, sitting, talking and watching for shooting stars! Louise and Giles could not have been more welcoming and were full of ideas of what we could do and where we should go. They were unobtrusive hosts but were there if we needed them. The gites were all beautifully decorated and very clean. The beds were extremely comfortable and we could easily self cater for large numbers in the kitchens. We would love to return and as the children grow I am sure that they will continue to find lots to do in this region. Thank you once again for a fantastic holiday.

Amazing views towards the Pyrenees and a beautiful landscape to relax in. Accommodation is very spacious and comfortable. Louise and Giles are helpful, friendly and really made our stay enjoyable. We were on a painting holiday so full board was included. Louise's cooking was a very high standard, really tasty. Lunches, which were brought out to our daily locations were amazing and even included a barbeque on one day. Wine and beer was included with meals too. I can't recommend this holiday, accommodation and location enough and we will definitely be going back sometime.
