After spending a week in Bali, we were a little apprehensive about living and eating in Yogyakarta. I originally wanted to stay in a large hotel to be a little more secure about the food and service. That would’ve been a mistake. Somehow I ended up at that Duta Garden Hotel and found it to be one of the best parts about being in Yogyakarta. First, their rooms were huge and they had period or antique style furniture making it very comfortable and warm. The rooms were outdoor single floor bungalows that made it seem like you had your own apartment (ours was connected to only one other room). The large front porches had nice chairs that overlooked their center gardens, pool and waterfalls. Second, their restaurant was very comfortable. An outdoor open style restaurant with nice views of their garden and koi ponds. And, they had the best omelets I’ve experienced in all of Indonesia and Singapore. Third, they had a really nice set up for doing excursions inside and away from town. They offered about 70 different types of excursions, and I found that they could be customized. We loved our driver Bono, who made a serious effort to find us the best beaches and other stops to enjoy. He even worked together with the hotel to end our tour at the Marborough mall instead of at the hotel. We were then able to pay for the trip later when we returned to the hotel. It saved about an hour of our day. The hotel is family style. It is staffed 24 hours and there’s always someone willing to help you with your needs. It’s in the southern part of Yogyakarta, in what I understand to be the backpacking district. There are numerous restaurants and a great batik factory nearby. After trying several restaurants, one of our favorites, besides the hotel, was the K’meals bar and restro about a block away.

After making a mistake booking a bigger hotel in yogya we shorten the stay and moved to this lovely small quiet oasis near the restaurant and bar mile. We got a flat in the 1st floor what is an advantage for the pool view and privacy. Due to the lot of waterpools the froghs has sung their songs, but it wasn‘t disturbing - more relaxing . We had to move to the garden villa for the last day, due to the holidays of xmas, because we prolongated our stay for 2 more days and our original flat was fully booked. This new room wasn‘t as perfect as the first one, but also very nice for the last night. The stuff was very helpful and nice. So we enjoyed our stay completely.

Thoroughly enjoyed our visit to this hotel. Great garden landscapes with waterfalls and streams. Air con worked well and shower ok. Note that the shower is over a bath and this might not suit. Good large room and large bathroom. Breakfast fine but not a huge selection but suited us very well. The only item that would have improved our stay would have been the addition of a small refrigerator in the room to be able to store a few cold drinks. Also if you use face washers then bring your own as they are not provided. We will stay there again on future visits.
