Simply put, Sunset House is amazing! The resort is beautiful and well-maintained, the sea pool is a great way to cool off, and the restaurant and bar are fantastic. Plus, the fact that you can snorkel and shore dive right from the resort is a huge bonus! What really makes Sunset stand out is the staff. From Jean at the front desk, to Ricky and Troy at My Bar, as well as Alex, Chris, Justin, Mel, and everyone else on the dive team, they all instantly make you feel welcome and at home. You can tell they really enjoy their jobs, and they all work very hard to make sure your experience is top-tier. I don't think my trip would've been half as good without the team there. For diving, they're super-organized, the boats are clean and well-maintained, and these guys know practically every great dive site in the area. They're very patient with every diver, happy to educate and give advice, and just have great personalities. I always felt safe, comfortable, and happy to dive with them! Can't wait to go back!

One of the best dive vacations I've ever taken. The extremely efficient and friendly staff combined with wonderful facilities and boats makes this a "can't miss". Even if that would have been enough, the food was excellent as well - no need to go off-property to eat. If you like Key Largo, you'll love this place. Literally Key Largo on steriods. Moderately deeper reefs that are well protected and easy to navigate. Lots of sea life - especially juveniles. Working on coming back next year already.

I am a Master SCUBA diver and I’ve been diving worldwide for 37 years. I believe Sunset House in Grand Cayman is one of the best SCUBA diving resorts in the Caribbean, if not worldwide. Their motto is “For Divers, By Divers”, and you will see why if you go there. The entire staff is friendly, knowledgeable, and attentive to the needs of SCUBA divers. They have an on-site photography shop (Cathy Church). The reef just off the resort is large, healthy, and easy to access. Mel runs the SCUBA Diving Center, and it is without a doubt the best I have ever experienced. I spent last week diving with Tyler, Bazz, and Justin. These gentlemen are awesome guides who are fun and easy to dive with. Most all the diving sites are within an easy 15 to 20-minute boat ride. There is a WWII landing craft (a wreck dive) within an easy swim of the resort. I highly recommend doing the wreck dive, the ‘Kittiwake’, which is a WWII submarine tender.

It's 20 degrees out right now so I figure it was the perfect time to reminisce on our trip to Sunset House. Our group spent a week here from November 25th to December 2nd and it was nothing short of amazing, the weather was perfect, 85 and sunny with a nice breeze off the ocean for the whole week. All the staff were great and friendly, had good recommendations for places to eat or things to do if you were looking to leave the resort. The rooms were really nice and clean, and the air conditioning was great when you wanted a break from the humidity. The bar was a nice spot to hang out during the evenings for dinner. George Town is only a few minutes ride in a taxi or short walk if you're up for it and there's plenty of places to eat and get all the usual souvenirs from a port town. The resort also had a shuttle you could arrange the day before that could take you into town as well. The diving was fantastic! This was my first time diving in the Caribbean so I was excited to see all the sea life and corals that are absent in my regular diving. It was usually around a 10-15 minute boat ride to the first dive site somewhere along the western shore. Except one day when the swell was too much to use the resort dock so they shuttled us down to Red Bay, boarded the boat there and dove two sites along the southern shore. Once we had moored at the site we would get a breakdown of the site and how the guided portions of the dives would go. The guided portion of the dives were usually around 30 minutes and then after they brought you back around to the mooring line and showed you the boat you had until 900 psi or 55 minutes to look around until you needed to start your safety stop. A lot of us in our group were really into seeing all the sea life we could and Alex and Baz were great at pointing out all the things hiding in the walls and amongst the coral when they could. By far my most favorite site was Devil's Grotto, tons of stuff to see and a really really cool swim through on top of being a longer shallower dive was the perfect way to cap off our week of diving. On top of the boat diving every morning you can do as much shore diving as you want which was a lot of fun too, there's a lot stuff to see out around the mermaid statue. On a night dive out there you could see a little bio-luminescence if you waved an arm back and forth, the tarpon also like to follow you at night in the hopes you may illuminate a free meal.

This is our absolute favorite place in the world to visit. Unfortunately, right before we came in mid February, a big storm damaged some of the resort including the outdoor bar and swimming pool. Both are back up and running being now. That’s the only reason why only four stars for this trip and not five. Diving was great and the dive shop staff is awesome. Look up my friend Troy at the bar. He’s a great bartender and we are always glad to see him when we are there. We can’t wait to come back.

We went to Sunset House for lunch and some shore snorkeling. I had read someone's review that they sat in the bar while their wife snorkeled, so I thought that would be perfect. But my husband decided at the last minute to join me. He rented flippers from their dive shop for $5, had his own mask. Easy entry right by the patio where we ate. We didn't find the mermaid statue but saw lots of fish, a ray and a small nurse shark. Hearing planes go directly overhead freaked us out a little... We thought a boat was coming straight for us! It was easy and enjoyable snorkeling. Lunch was good, the dive staff very helpful. There are lockers to store your stuff. They had guys working on the pool and the tiki bar so there was some machinery noise... I overheard someone say there was a fire in the bar. Looks like it will be really nice when it's completed. My only complaint was the music they were playing on the patio... Rap music that repeated the "n" word ad nauseum. Seriously, why??

We just returned from a winter getaway at Sunset House in Grand Cayman and we’re already planning our return visit. It was our second visit to shore dive and our first time staying at Sunset House (we stayed on the east side last trip). The rooms were spacious, very comfortable, clean, and well provisioned with everything we needed. We enjoyed our second floor porch with ocean view. The grounds were exceptionally clean and well maintained. The pool area was a great place to relax between dives. We are divers so we especially loved the convenience of shore diving on the house reef. We could dive at our leisure—no rushing to meet the boat early in the morning this trip! We wanted to take it easy and still have enjoyable diving. Access was easy with several entry and exit points. Navigation was easy with the assistance of bouys and a map. We saw lots of interesting fish, plus their iconic mermaid the Henderson wreck with average depths between 55-60 feet and no much current. It was a great place for us to test out some new equipment or for novices to get a little more experience. Boat diving is available daily and looked like their boats were well equipped. All the dive staff were very helpful and gave us good recommendations even though we were diving on our own—they were still looking out for us! Lockers on site to stow gear, washing stations to rinse gear, and even carts to take it down to the pier were very convenient. Photography lessons from Cathy Church are available on site—something I plan to do next trip! Sunset House offers daily shuttle service to a sandy beach nearby or to Georgetown, but we never left the property because it had plenty of options for us. We especially enjoyed My Bar, the open air bar with a great drink & food menu. The Sea Harvest restaurant was a quieter option but with the same menu offering lots of delicious choices including Indian food. The staff were all exceptionally friendly especially Abigail & Banhu! Abigail’s laughter enchanted us and we learned a lot about India from Banhu. If you do want to explore the area, it’s about a 10 minute walk to Georgetown, and Sunset House is also on a bus line so that’s another option. They offer car rental as well to explore other parts of the island (Queen Elizabeth Botanic Garden on the east side is worth the trip!) A ten minute walk in the opposite direction will take you to Pure Art Gallery & Gifts, a wonderful collection of local art and crafts. We can’t wait to return with our whole family for our next scuba diving vacation!

One stop: diving, lodging and food. We keep returning. The staff is fantastic. Dive operation is professional, safety conscious and helpful. Restaurant has indoor and ocean front seating. My Bar is open air and seaside. Tasty food, even the locals come to eat. Most of the rooms have ocean views. Over the years we had our children and grandchild trained and certified to dive at Sunset House.

Bar & Dining review: If you're like me and your wife likes to snorkel and you don't, come here! She spent about 3 hours swimming the area while I enjoyed a cigar and several cocktails! The bar area is really nice and the service is great! We had a bite to eat before she jumped in and the meal was good for both of us. As for the snorkeling, she was impressed with what the area offered and said she'd come back again!
