After our third trip to this resort, FDR continues to EXCEED our expectations. The shining stars are definitely the staff and the food! ( and drinks, Chrissy makes a mojito that is life changing) I cannot say enough about this amazing team! They treat you like family! Other nannies would say hello to us every morning by name! The front desk, the grounds crew, and the food and beverage staff takes the time to know every guest. It really feels like home! Of course, the nannies are amazing. We had Ms Sophie and Ms Alecia and were spectacular! Our daughters were always safe and having the time of their lives! These memories will certainly last a lifetime. The lifeguards are also exceptional and take the kids out on boat rides, snorkeling, fishing, and even kayaking! They have energy levels to keep up with our kids. Javon is a standout and is one of the best employees that we’ve encountered anywhere in all of our travels. Now to discuss the food! Absolutely fabulous! We learned it’s mostly locally sourced and it’s SO fresh! We have some food allergies in the family, but the team went above and beyond to ensure our safety. Ms Marsha runs that dining area like a tight ship. She’s incredible. Full of love, kindness and a true desire to ensure every guest is happy. We love that this resort is truly family owned and operated. You can have amazing conversations with the owner and general manager about the history and the future of the resort and the area. We love the character and charm of the rooms. Feels like “old Jamaica” NOT like a hotel in Vegas. We also love all the lush vegetation, providing lots of shade on the extra hot days. To us it’s picture perfect. I cannot express in words how this resort will make you and your family feel. All I know is we love every second we are there, and start planning our return as soon as we leave!…
This was a return trip and even better than the last. We stayed only 4 nights last time and it wasn’t enough, so we came back and stayed 7. It was perfect. Our nanny was Nas and she was phenomenal. Not only did she take perfect care of our son, but she anticipated our needs and kept our room sparkling clean and stocked with snacks, juice and coffee every day (the coffee in Jamaica is so delicious that I went through many pots a day and never ran out!) Marsha and the rest of the breakfast staff remembered our names and drink orders within just a day or two. The nighttime bartenders and servers (Miguel, Lorna, Phelicia) are funny and friendly, always love seeing their beautiful smiling faces. We never waited long for a drink and they were always strong and tasty. The food was as great as we remembered, more like home cooking than resort food. This trip, we did the Bob Marley tour which I very much recommend if you’re a fan. The front desk arranged our transportation with Lorenzo, who is a great driver even on the scary mountain roads on the way up to Nine Mile, and very knowledgeable about the area and Jamaica in general. He also takes great photos! We felt as if we were visiting friends more than staying at a hotel. We don’t have much of a support system at home so kid-free time together is a precious, rare thing, and Nas made it possible for us to connect as a couple again while our little guy was off having a great time. Thank you again, FDR! We’ll see you soon!…
no rum punch upon entry. felt very dry and parched. A bit rundown. Pipes in bathroom rattled. did seek help but was told in the morning, no one came. Nice people tho. Kudos goes to Chrissy, felicia, Shaneal, ringo, shanel and her friend for helping out with the taxi to st anns bay. hotel is more geared to families with younger kids. Small facility. Carry your watershoes. Nice amenties, but limited as i stayed for seven days, and meals were repeated more than once. With the amenities, they offered free fishing, a glass bottom boat, snorkling. Scuba was not free. I think price was around one hundred and thirty usa dollars. Best to rent a car if you plan to tour as cartours, are a hundred dollars. They did provide me with the jamaican experience by finding native fruits , thanks Chrissy. Coconuts and breadfruit from ringo, thank you …
We just got back home after a week at FDR with our two year old, and we can't wait to go back! I agree with all the other reviews that say that the nanny makes the experience. We had Sharlene, who was warm, fun, funny, and just amazing. Our son loved her. You are able to request nannies in advance, so I highly recommend Sharlene if you can get her, but I also know that all of them are amazing. Everyone knows you and your child, you feel like you are truly part of the FDR family, and this is what sets this resort apart from all others. You do not get the mega resort feel, and so no marble and high end options, but I describe it as "vintage" Jamaica, and if you're able to get past that, you'll have a great time! You will actually enjoy it all without having to run around after your kids! The food is also good and the drinks are strong. Please also don't forget to to tip the nannies at the end - I heard they rely heavily on that! Can't wait to be back!…
I will save your time right off the bat: As other reviewers have stated if you are looking for a luxury vacation with 5 star a la cart restaurants, multiple swim up bars and party areas, marble floors, modern rooms and amenities - keep looking. This resort will disappoint you. If you are a tired, exhausted parent or family in need of an actually restful vacation with your kids this is your resort. Nannies are great, staff is great, the resort is small which plays into what it provides - relaxation without 5 mile hikes to the restaurant and back. We came with our 2yr old direly in need of rest - tired and overworked. This resort was not what we wanted, it was what we needed - a break!
This is hand's down the BEST resort for a family if you have littles. This was our first resort trip with our 6 year old and it was an incredible vacation. The resort itself is a little older and could use some reno work in the rooms, but we basically only used the room to sleep in. The only issue I had was that the shower head in our room was terrible water pressure, the one in my son't room was good tho so we just used his (we had a two bedroom/two bath and it was cute and spacious). The little kitchenette was really nice to have too (perfect for stowing bootleg Red Stripes). There is no shortage of activities for the kids or adults, during the day and at night. AND there are a lot of kids, so friends are made and adventures transpired. The giant water slide was as fun for us as it was for our son ("Big Blue")! The dinner shows they did for the kids was the best too; dress up contest, talent show, dance parties. And at night the adults can do karaoke and hang at the bar (you can ask your Nanny to stay later for a fee, so worth it). The beach itself is very small and not the clearest, but is perfect for the kiddos. Next door to the property, steps away, is a mile long stretch of the absolute most beautiful sand and water. We referred to it as the secret beach. We spent lots of time there too. Plenty of pool space and stuff to sit on at pools and the beaches. We were a little disappointed that the Overproof restaurant wasn't open at the beach, but the main buffet/night restaurant offered full breakfast, lunch and dinner. Our favorite though? The Grill. Jerk Chicken all day for me. And he made us JERK CHICKEN POUTINE. You read that right. To die for. And right next to the Grill was a kids treehouse and ice cream shop. My little man probably had ice cream three times a day. We only took advantage of the Spa once, my husband and I both had massages and it was lovely. It's literally out in the ocean and the sound of the water elevated the experience for sure. Regarding the team, the lifeguards were SUPER engaged and would often play with the kids in pool and help them on the slides. Mercy and Brucie will entertain you all day and evening. Every single person at the resort was incredibly gracious, hospitable, and just genuinely nice humans. But let's get to the gem of this resort, our Nanny Cardel. Our son fell in love with her and so did we. By the end it felt like we were leaving behind a member of our family. She even stayed to watch over him a few nights so Mommy and Daddy could pretend we were young again ;) FYI your Nanny also takes care of the room for you, please take extra money for tip. Overall, this is not a lux resort, but it's really good for a FANTASTIC family vacation. Truly all-inclusive. Side note, Lorenza was the site photographer and did a great shoot for us! He also did our private transportation to and from the airport for us. Both are so worth the additional fee (booster or carseat provided if needed)! So, in summary, our son has already told us that we will be returning lol. Make sure to save room for us Angie! Stayed 10 nights end of March 2022…
Excellent for families with young children. Could not have asked better for my twins. The nanny service allows for my wife and I to finally have a minute after a long pregnancy and caring for to very active babies for a year. It is worth every single penny. And yes all is included. Customer service is great. Even had a brach blocking our view cut after casually making a comment to staff.
All I can say is wow! We LOVE it here! This was our first visit and on day 2 we were already planning our return. We had a 2 bedroom beachfront suite and it was perfect for us! The beds were comfortable. The rooms were clean and spacious. We loved sitting on the balcony whenever we weren’t on the beach or in the pool. Food is great with lots of options. The bar had a great selection and made awesome drinks. The options for water sports are plentiful too and there is always a lifeguard ready to get you in the water. Nonstop adult and kid activities if that’s what you want to do. Bring a white t-shirt so you can tie dye!! Most importantly, the staff are the most friendly of folks. You feel like you are family and we cannot wait for our next “family” reunion ;). 15/10, highly recommend!…
We have been to FDR four times now. While I agree with David O.'s review about the place needing repairs/upkeep, we were able to overlook these because we understand how hard COVID has been financially on hotels. You'll never visit a place as warm and friendly as this! The people are sooo nice and will do anything to make your stay pleasant. The nanny factor sets this place apart. Parents can actually relax and enjoy a vacation! It's amazing how the staff remembers return families and appreciates them! Our former nanny left, so we had Karina who was just amazing. Omercye, Bruce, Footsie, Miguel, Chrissy, Javonn, Ricardo and Ammerica are just a FEW of the amazing staff that make this the best place ever! Travelers from the US shouldn't worry about the return COVID test either; you can book a appt on an app and the nurse comes right to the resort and you get the results in under an hour! Travel and customs were super easy! Thank you FDR for staying open and weathering this pandemic storm! And visitors --don't forget to TIP. A few dollars here and there go a loooong way. And definitely tip your nanny at the end of your stay!…
The resort needs alot of repair work, its falling apart in places. Bed loungers are old and stained, the paint is peeling, showers don't hold hot water for long, the wifi is barely up to year 2000 speed, the TV in the room didn't work, the treadmills in the gym (all of the 3 of them) didn't work! Did we care? Not a bit. The kindness of all of the staff and our amazing nanny far outweighed these things. The kids had a blast - where else can you ask the pool guy if he can take you out snorkeling and 5 minutes later you are in a glass bottom boat out in the ocean? If you like large corporate hotels with big pools and marble halls you'll hate this place. If however you have kids, need a break and can look past the obvious faults you will have a great time. We will be back next year!!…
