Resort was dated, with small rooms. Air conditioning couldn't keep up with mid to high 20C temperatures so room was always damp and bathing suits and towels never dried. That being said, the room were kept immaculate and linens were always clean and plentiful. The grounds were kept in pristine condition, with workers toiling away everyday. The staff were always pleasant and helpful. The food in the restaurants was good.....the Japanese restaurant was our favorite. The resort is small so you don't have to make reservations.....but if you do you will have to prepay for a bottle of wine. FYI The house wines are included but any wines from US, France, Italy, etc are not. We stayed in the preferred area. Not sure if we received anything the non preferred didn't.....except for two extra pools and a two preferred lobbies. Jorge around the family pool and Emilio in the Preferred lounge were exceptional. Our butlers, Ari and Wilson were fantastic as well. Just be prepared for lots and lots of kids. …
We spent 2 weeks here November/December 2019, the hotel is absolutely gorgeous, huge pools and lovely beach. Recognition has to be given to the gardeners for keeping the place so beautiful. All staff were so professional and friendly and always looked so smart. They all worked so hard, not forgetting security, porters, life guards, reception staff, omlet guys, cleaners, bar staff, we were so impressed. A personal thank you to our great Tui rep (? Adis) who was excellent, Geicel from the buffet and Enoc from the Mexican, you were all so lovely. Recommend a trip to Saona Island and the Coco Bongo club! Took part in a spinning class in the pool which was great. Food was lovely with so much choice, breakfast was my favourite. The only negatives were people trying to sell you all sorts on the beach, and the music at the pool with the swim up bar, too loud and never understood why there was 2 really loud songs on at the same time, not relaxing. Thanks for a fab holiday.…
Good day, We booked this property on a whim in mid October, and I’m happy we did! Here is a rundown of our week Rooms; We stayed in building 6, 2nd closest to the ocean, prime location to the main pool and daily AM entertainment and poolside food. It was heaven, albeit a little challenging to get loungers, if you weren’t up at 6am. This was easily addressed by enlisting the help of the staff who will, tip or not tip, help bring up beach loungers for you. Our rooms were 6304 and 6305. There was a door connecting the two, which we helpful for us and the kids. I read comments on the high ceilings on the 3rd floor units and the AC not being cold enough. We did not have an issue, our AC units held up just fine and kept the rooms cool. There are some upgrades that are needed, such as mattress, and there could be more drawers for storage. Closet space was good for a 1 week holiday. Face it, you aren’t living there, does it really matter in end? The daily steaming service was great, mini fridge topped up daily, all towels replaced, bathroom cleaned and room was tidied. I have zero complaints about the cleaning here. The grounds; IMMACULATE! The grounds team really does a great job here. The place looks amazing. There wasn’t a day where they weren’t cutting, trimming or hedging. The place looked stunning. Seaweed, it’s a come and go thing. Yes, the DR and some other Caribbean countries have had issue with sargassum the few years. Nothing the ground team can’t handle or clean up on a daily basis. No issue for us with the beach. Pools; Could they have been a little warmer? Sure. Did it bother us really? Nope. You couldn’t keep my kids out of the pool. Besides, when that sun was at its strongest it you wanted a seat at the swim up, it didn’t matter! Proximity to the airport and hotel size; Winner, winner on this one. The hotel is very close to PUJ, making transfers short and super convenient. The size of the property is also a huge bonus. With only 500 rooms the resort is very walkable. Guests with disabilities will have to remain on the ground floor however, there are no elevators on property. I will say that during our stay there were two guests we saw, both in wheelchairs, who were having a great time! Food; Oh. My. Goodness. Reading through reviews I wondered what would await. There were some reviewers stating cold, bland and repetitive dishes. I’m curious is they were speaking out of spite due to a problem, or if it was their honest opinion?? We loved the food. From breakfast to dinner, a la carte to buffet and my personal favorite, the traditional Dominican cooking by the main pool!!! Bacon at breakfast was a little salty one day, is it enough for me to say ALL food was inedible? Absolutely not. Their pizza?? Let me tell you, it was outright criminal how good it was. Don’t like what they made? No worries, just tell the pizza maker to make to your liking. The buffet had different theme nights, each filled with their own dishes. The nights that had rotisserie chicken, amazing!! Fall off the bone and seasoned perfectly! Smoked pork leg, chicken wings, steak, fish, pork, chicken, lamb, fish, all cooked to your liking every night in the buffet. Vegetarian? No problem, the vegetable selection was quite large, there is even a spot for hot vegetarian dishes every night. Fruits and desserts were plentiful as well. Breakfast was also well prepared, with fresh made crepes and pancakes everyday. Fresh made donuts were also quite good. A la carte restaurants; We ate at all of them, including the French as well. As it is connected to the Italian, if you have kids you can order off the French menu. Pastas and meat dishes from Portofino were excellent. I had the spinach and cheese ravioli and the osso buco. Tried the steak from the French wasn’t to my liking. Barefoot grill; Convenient location on the beach, close to the main pool. Offering burgers and hotdogs. I was very surprised to see that the beef was angus, I got a look at the box as one was being delivered. There are also French fries and nachos. All accompaniments, including nacho cheese are available. Bars; I’m a mixed drink guy, preferring rum, vodka and gin, I’m also a huge Dominican rum fan, so having Extra Viejo everyday was great. Beers were also good, Presidente on tap which is a refreshing beer to have in the DR sun! There were also stands at night that had Coors, Bud and other Dominican beers. Top shelf spirits were present as well, Don Julio tequila, Beefeater and Ballentine gin, Smirnoff and Stolichniya vodka. All present and all come at no extra cost. Mexican (El Patio) The flank steak was excellent. I cut it with a butter knife it was so tender. The fajitas were also quite delicious. Seaside Grill Again, I went with the steak. The actually have a good selection here. Rib Eye, New York, tenderloin and flank were the options there. I had the rib eye cooked medium and it was quite flavorful. The grouper was also good. You can find it at most restos as they use it for many dishes. Poolside lunches; These were my personal favorite. One day they made Sancocho. A traditional Dominican dish with chicken, beef, pork, yucca and potato in a delicious stew! On another day, we had a seafood bake/stew with clams, shrimp, calamari and grouper. Another day we had a seafood and rice dish prepared by the head chef Pablo Villama himself! The staff; What’s a holiday without good service? A nightmare. The staff here are another level, and I say this with all certainty and without hesitation. The reviews where people have had issues, I honestly can’t see how? They would do anything to help. From the bellboys to the Kids Explorer team, cleaning staff to grounds keepers, and the most incredible wait/bar staff and entertainment team!! They’re passionate, inclusive and attentive. Our kids loved interacting with them all. Baby Face, the entertainment leader and Jordan were two of the kindest people I have met. The entertainment team put on great daily and nightly shows. They are talented dancers and some are amazing aerobic and acrobatic performers! One show literally blew us away with the level of difficulty in some of the aerobic and dance moves. Some of them are honestly too good to be performing at a hotel!! On one night, Meet the Managers, the guests were treated to a poolside meal and fresh coconuts handed out by all the senior staff at the hotel, including the GM. You can tell by their friendliness and their demeanor, how they are able to keep their staff motivated and engaged in order to provide guests with a memorable experience. My family and I were happy that we chose Dreams Palm Beach as our hotel. We will certainly return to this property and, in future, try the rest of the Dreams and Secrets properties. For those of you thinking about choosing Dreams Palm Beach. Please, do not be put off by the negative reviews. People have bad days and act out of spite. They will have a small problem and turn a molehill into a mountain. Book it! Enjoy it!! I wanted to add more pictures but you’re only allowed to upload 10. …
This review is about my wedding only. I was married on October 29, 2019. It really hurts to look back on one of the most important days of my life and feel like it was terrible. The worst part is when I expressed my grievances, Evelyn, the "Weddings Manager" could not have cared less. Abridged run down: 1. My coordinator changed 3 times (Rueben>Ive>Virgillo). Found out about the third coordinator when I arrived. He had all old information. 2. My make up and hair appointment was at 1:00 and they pushed it to 2:30. I left the salon at 4:30 with 30 minutes to get across the resort, into my dress and jewelry to walk down the aisle at 5:00 pm. Family moments, champagne, decent pictures didn't happen. 3. STILL ran late. It was incredibly hot. I felt terrible for my guests. 4. Photographer and Coordinator did nothing to actually coordinate my photos. My guests were standing around sweating with no direction and started to wonder off. I had to take over and ask everyone to stay. I had to tell everyone what pictures to be in and not to be in. 5. After photos, the DJ and Coordinator come back. I voice to the coordinator that I am not happy so far and explain to him why. We agree that nothing else will go wrong. 6.I met with the DJ (male) before the day of. DJ then changed on me (female) and knew nothing about the arrangements. This was after I spoke out about not being happy too haha...She had a slight attitude and did not execute what I asked for. Please don't get married here. Looking back, I should have went to a different resort and paid the extra money for a wedding department that cared. I did reach out to the resort after this experience and they did not one thing to try to make it up to me, which is really disappointing. They did however blame me for not speaking up, which wasn't the case.…
The 2 star review is purely based on the views. So, neglected rooms, keys cards consistently not working and being locked out on a nightly basis, having to go back and fourth from one end of the resort to the other 4 times a night can be annoying, especially on a market night being hassled every 20 steps to buy something. Made to feel bad is an understatement. Leaking rooms, i would assume aircon problems, being dripped on when your brushing you teeth is never a nice feeling. The safe in the room was obsolete and decided for itself when it wanted to work, then would just turn off and unlock itself. Bed sheets resembling a fine sand paper on delicate skin. The staff, maybe 5/6 members of staff were brilliant, the remainder seem to struggle to even crack a smile, ignorant and rude would suffice for an overall opinion of the work force unless your throwing tips there way. 3 separate occasions i had to dry the table and my face due to the hasty pouring of my water followed by the waiter marching off treating me and my partner like an inconvenience. The food, large variety of crap. I realise everyone has there own tastes. The only difference between the 4 main restaurants and the buffet in my opinion was the presentation. The beach grill house is mediocre at best. If Eddy aint there your foods practically thrown at you again made to feel like an inconvenience. The Beach, lovely beach, if your after Cocaine, Weed, or small wooden statues its the place to go! Cant go 30 yards without being hassled by drug dealers or salesmen! Great for kids if you want them exposed to this at a young age. Excursion, promoting lies....the catamaran boat trip snorkelling over a ship wreck and a trip Saona island, beautiful place. So after 10 minutes of snorkelling over nothing... and spending 3 hours cramped in a small van, 2 hours on the catamaran to spend maybe an hour on the island then ushered back to the boat for another few hours of deafening music, didnt sign up for a party boat. DO NOT go on the “local market” trip. Its a shopping centre your left at for 2 hours. Value for money. Its not. Plain and simple. To look at, the island have some amazing views and scenery, friendly people but most have a money driven motive for this. The split second its made clear you aint handing over any money the attitude of 90% we met changed immediately.…
