Prepare for a long and thorough review... My college roommates and I stayed at Bahia Ambar for 4 nights. I would give it a 4.5 overall if google would let me. We booked through the website which was confusing at times, but we were able to get a free shuttle because of it. When we arrived at the resort, we were greeted with drinks while we waited in line to check in. The check-in process was probably the worst part of our stay. It took FOREVER to check in despite having done a pre-check in ahead of time. However, once we made it to our rooms we quickly forgot about the long wait. The rooms were gorgeous and much larger than I expected! The lighting was great. The shower and vanity were both large. The king size room had a decent sized sitting area, so our group hung out and played games there every night. The beds were a bit firm, but still comfortable. There was only one pool open but it was rather large so I did not feel too close to people. At peak times of the day, it was difficult to find a chair around the pool. The beach was absolutely gorgeous. All of the chairs were regularly cleaned and there were plenty to go around. I found an occasional lime from someones drink and maybe one cigarette bud, but overall they kept it really tidy. The food is probably the only thing that didn't quite meet my expectations. The buffet was pretty hit or miss, but overall I would give it average marks. Breakfast and lunch were pretty repetitive and got a bit old. Dinner was a bit better and had a lot more variety. With covid, the servers would fill your plate with what you asked for as you walked around. Some of the stations they had a "build your own". Omelettes, pasta, stir frys, etc. Don't get the white sauce on the pasta! Haha. It was terrible. But the red sauce was delicious! Room service (which is included free of charge) was decently fast and could be ordered through the app or by the phone in the room. We were able to make reservations for the steak house called M.E.A.T. and the traditional italian restaurant. Both were absolutely amazing. There is a coffee shop with pastries open all day as well which I appreciated. Now to the alcohol... there were three bars... the lobby bar, the pool bar, and the sports bar. The lobby bar was open from 10am until midnight (it could have been open later, I don't really remember). The sports bar was also open late. We spent most of our time in the lobby bar. The drinks seemed to be better quality there. We were extremely lucky to have Magulina as a server. She treated our group of 5 so well and was very attentive. She would remember our orders and constantly refilled our drinks and brought us water. We also had Michelly for one night and she was also amazing. Quick to refill our drinks and bring us shots, haha. I highly recommend bringing some cash to tip your servers. They put in a lot of work for little pay and put up with a lot of drunk tourists. Do your part and pay them what they deserve. It's not expected, but it's a very good thing to do. Especially with Covid decimating the tourist industry in the Dominican. Speaking of Covid... the resort offered free covid testing. It is scheduled the day before you leave. Get your paperwork the night before if you can. We showed up around 10am and were shuttled to a shutdown part of the resort where the clinic was. We were given quick covid tests and then taken back to the lobby. Later that evening we were given paper copies of our results to take with us. It was pretty painless and easy. All in all, this resort is a fantastic deal for the price and I would recommend it highly.

Our yearly location for girls trip. We book several rooms. The 2020 trip was cancelled and we rebooked last July when the hotel had a free swim up upgrade promotion. We were told there was no record of it and given a third floor room. We had contacted the hotel via email to confirm first floor due to a person with mobility issues. We were then given a room in the back over looking the path the workers took. When drapes were open, they constantly waived and gestured. Walked in the door to a wide open bathroom with toilet right there. Very awkward for people coming and going. Air conditioning broken, three repairs. One repair man extremely rude. Had to asked to have room cleaned. A manager finally got floors swept and mopped on our fifth day there. Excited about new seafood restaurant advertised on website and requested reservations in advance. It's for time share people only. This resort was wonderful in the past but no longer.

My experience at staying at this property is very bad. I call for a blanket it took them 2 1/2 hrs. The toliet broke and the outlet. False advertisement on excursions i paid for 2 hr horseback riding and they took me and my wife out only for an hour I sent several emails to managers no manager ever contacts you back. Upon arriving at requested for an additional night stay they lady said yes and upgraded me for $50 dollars. On 6th i find out the girl who checked me in didn’t extend my stay the extra day and they wanted me to pay $275 for night! I asked to speak to the manager carlos he never came out. I will never come back to this property again! The worst customer service ever. I spoke to a manager by the name of Albania i have email her she hasn’t responded to my email at all. My friends who are VIP members are considering canceling there membership that just bought because of these issues and no one has resolved them.

The resort is beautiful! It is clean; staff was always cleaning and landscaping to keep the resort in tip-top shape. The beach was kept very clean every day, and we often caught a beautiful sunrise. The beach was quite windy, but it may have just been the week we went. The resort was at low capacity due to Covid and several of the other resorts were closed, but it made for a quiet, peaceful atmosphere. We had a swim-up suite, which was relaxing all times of the day. Our butler, Edwardo, was excellent! He was very attentive and checked in on us several times a day. We received fantastic service in many aspects of the resort- a key to a wonderful stay! Santos- amazing bartender in the lobby; he knew how to make an excellent old-fashioned. Hanler was always in a great mood at the pool bar & often remembered our go-to favorite drinks. The ladies at the Ambar Spa were very sweet and gave an amazing massage. One of our favorite parts about our stay was the entertainment! We attended the following: Spanish class, bike tour, rum history/tasting, wine tasting, mamajuana making/tasting class, Bingo, & trivia. They also hosted karaoke and dance classes. Shout out to Carlos, Hairon, John, Walter, and Daniel- all very fun and personable! The food at Ambar was good. Definitely try the paella, chicken, and beef on the beach for lunch. The a la cartes were all unique and fun to try. We also enjoyed the rotisserie chicken, brick-oven pizzas, and fresh fish-of-the-day at the beach restaurant.

We were at the resort from 3/29-4/5 and had a great trip. We traveled as a group of 4 and booked two rooms through the Bahia Principe resort. The entire resort is beautiful and VERY clean. You can tell they take COVID seriously and wanted to make sure that they kept things as clean as possible. This is a very long review so the abbreviated version is: Loved the resort and the staff. Dinauri, Michael, Bianca, Desiree, & Carlos were the stars of the waitstaff at the restaurants and pools and Nairombi was the star at check-in. The food at the restaurants was very good and the drink service was excellent. The rooms are well-appointed and comfortable. Overall, we were very happy with all aspects and would return. Transfers Everything was extremely smooth upon arrival to Punta Cana. We had one of the airport workers help us with our bags and he was worth the $5 we tipped him to move us quickly through the final pieces of immigration. He took us right to Coming2 where the desk agent confirmed our information and then took us right to the bus. We did the shared transfer which was free as I have a Bahia loyalty membership and we only had 2 other people with us in the vehicle so it wasn't bad at all as far as social distancing goes. The trip to the hotel was maybe 30 minutes and not bad at all. We set up our transfer back to the airport on day 3 or 4 and were told to check back at the desk the day before we leave to learn when we would be picked up. We were transferred promptly based on the provided time and we arrived to the Punta Cana airport with no issue. The transfers were both seamless and smooth on the Bahia side. Check-in We arrived at the resort around 2:30/3 pm and sanitized our bags and hands and then were provided with a welcome drink. We got in a somewhat long line and were then greeted by a staff member who said we should go grab a bite at the buffet as it would be closing and come back to check-in after which we did. After we ate, we jumped back into line and it was still a bit long. They had staff keeping drinks coming as well as helping expedite the check-in process. We had a manager come through to make sure we had all necessary information. One thing to note is that you should bring the credit card you used to book the trip. I did not bring that card and they made it seem like it was a problem and said it was for security purposed. I had other cards and was able to use a different card but to save yourself any issue, just bring the card you used to book. Once we got to the desk, Nairombi (I hope I spelled that right!) helped us complete our check-in. She was very sweet, polite, and eager to please. We got our wrist bands and were on our way. Despite our multiple requests for my husband and I to have the king bed and our two friends to have the room with two beds, we still ended up with the rooms swapped. I went back to speak with Nairombi and she apologized profusely and fixed the issue. About 2 hours later, I was in the lobby at the kiosk booking meals and Nairombi came over from the desk and addressed me by name to make sure I was okay and didn’t need any help. She was a delight to deal with and I was impressed with her ability to provide personalized assistance. Rooms We had two junior deluxe rooms (the basic rooms at this resort) and were very impressed with the size and quality of amenities. The rooms are large with a nice sitting area with chairs and a table along with a desk. The balconies are nicely sized and have nice drying racks for towels and swim suits. The shower is large and very nice but it is open, so if you are traveling with a friend, there is little to no privacy. The rooms come equipped with an iron and ironing board, multiple hangers, bath robes and slippers, an umbrella, and a safe. There was ample storage between the closets and dressers. The mini-fridge was stocked with lots of pop and water as well as chips. We left a note in Spanish with specific requests and a couple of dollars and we were well taken care of with exactly what we wanted. I did the same thing with the housekeeping and specific towel requests and we were always well-stocked. I don’t know our housekeeper’s name but I saw her every day in the hall (Villa 63 on the third floor) and she was always so pleasant. Pool The pool is very large and there was never an issue getting chairs. There were days we didn’t get to the pool until 10 am and were always able to secure chairs. We also stopped by the beach one day and also had 0 issues getting a palapa. The swim-up bar in the pool is closed but open on the deck side. I went to the bar maybe twice as Bianca and Desiree took great care of us delivering drinks every day. The beach service was also speedy and great. The resort staff did a great job of keeping the grounds clean as well. Restaurants/Food We were able to try all open restaurants at Ambar. The two buffets were fine, nothing out of the ordinary. We only ate breakfast and lunch at the buffets and mostly ended up at the beach buffet. The Greek was very good as well as Thali. Tequila was good but probably my least favorite. We ate at Portofino and M.E.A.T. twice and both meals were yummy. The pizzas at Portofino are huge and could have fed all four of us. I really liked the penne dish with a spicy sauce and got that both times. The burger at M.E.A.T. was also very delicious. When you eat at Portofino and the beach buffet for lunch, look for Dinauri. He was such a fun time and took great care of us. He made sure we had a great time and went above and beyond for us each day. Michael worked at M.E.A.T. and the lunch buffet at the beach as well and he was also awesome. They made our meals enjoyable and were a highlight on our trip. We also frequented the Sports Bar and Carlos took amazing care of us. He had drinks for us the second we walked in every night and had rounds coming before we asked for them. He was very sweet and we loved having him take care of us. There were awesome female servers as well but I didn’t catch their names. The entire staff at the Sports Bar was fantastic. The food was also pretty good. We come from Buffalo and thought the wings were very good. I had the burger and mozzarella sticks there and enjoyed those as well. This was a great option for late-night food. We also got room service for lunch or a snack before dinner a couple of times and the service was speedy and the food was decent. Not the same level as the restaurants but it got the job done! One thing that I was very impressed by was the service all over the resort. If you were sitting in the lobby, servers were always available to take drink orders for you. If you were sitting on the patio outside the lobby and coffee shop, they’d take care of you there as well. It was not expected but definitely noticed and appreciated. COVID Testing The COVID testing was very organized and not a bad process at all. We were told we needed to test the day before we left and to be at the lobby by 9am. We were there by 8 to try to get at the front of the line to be done as early as possible to enjoy our last day. If you do the online check-in make sure to have clear photos of your passports. This was what the “delay” was for our group (delay is hardly the correct term). We were numbers 9 and 11 (they go by rooms); we were shuttled to the testing location at 915 and out by 940. We received our test results at our room that evening around 630/7 and were set to go the next day. Overall This resort is very beautiful, especially compared to the other resorts in the complex. I ran most mornings and ventured through the other resorts and Ambar is by far the most beautiful and updated. I encountered MANY staff members on my morning runs and every single person from the groundskeepers, housekeeping, entertainment staff, to kitchen staff were absolutely delightful. We felt really well taken care of throughout our entire stay and I would not hesitate to come back to Ambar.
