This place was the perfect little oasis that we could come and unwind. There are also two cats, a dog, and 3 tortoises that live on the property and they were so fun! The jacuzzi is also very nice. The rooms are a bit dated and rustic but it did not impact our comfort in the least. Nice, hot showers, comfortable bed, and a good size mini fridge in the room. There is an outdoor kitchen with a microwave, toaster oven, blender. Just make sure to bring your own wine/bottle opener!

My wife and stayed 9 nights Feb 27- March 8. This was a last minute change of destination and we were so happy to find availability on Aruba. Communication with Sartini was great and she helped us with a rental car. Although we never got to meet her in person she was responsive to all inquiries.. she even managed to get the two extra pillows my wife requested. The property is about a 5 minute walk from the Ritz, an 8 minute car ride to Arashi Beach (recommend this) and a 8 minute drive to palm beach at the Hilton property. The property consists of a main house (privately owned) and three apartments secured behind a locked gated area. We stayed in #2. The bed was advertised as a queen ( maybe a UK queen) but is more along the size of an american double. There were only a few negatives for us during our stay. 1: The bed was a little small and not as comfortable as I would have liked. 2: the hot water was a bit of an issue as it would run out before my wife could rinse the conditioner from her hair. All in all La Maison is a great budget minded vacation spot and we would book it again.

WE LOVED LA MAISON!!! Staying here was the best of both worlds - a quiet neighborhood, a private courtyard with lush gardens, a large pool, plenty of seating and an outdoor kitchen - AND - a short walk to Palm beach! We stayed in #3 and enjoyed the space; it had a large wardrobe (suitcases fit on top), comfortable mattress, and soft bedding. It has a nice large window to let in natural light, a strong A/C unit with adjustable temps (we got cold at night and would turn it off), and plenty of hot water for showers. We had multiple sets of towels and a change of sheets for the bed; when we needed clean beach towels we just asked the concierge for them and she was happy to provide them. The pool was very clean, shallow at one end and deeper at the other (maybe 5' deep) and since there are only three units in total, we rarely shared it and normally had it to ourselves! Grab the chairs and a cooler that are provided, or the snorkel equipment, and head on over to the beach for the morning, and pass the afternoon at your private pool or napping in the hammock. The outdoor kitchen was a highlight. We were able to grocery shop and keep food in our little fridge, and cook meals outside...I loved cooking outside. Basic spices/seasonings were in the kitchen, charcoal was provided for the grill (which was large enough to cook for 20), and I had everything needed to prepare meals. Enjoy a romantic meal under the stars or under the palapa; "candles" included to set the mood! It's a short (8-10 min) walk to Palm Beach (between Marriott and the Ritz), and about a mile to Palm Beach Plaza Mall (north end of high rise strip by Holiday Inn). Walk along the paved paths on the beach side and enjoy the sunset on your way to dinner! You don't need to rent a car; taxis come fast or the bus picks up at the Marriott. We ended up getting a rental car for a week because we wanted to take trips all over the island. No issues with parking overnight. The neighborhood is quiet, safe, and peaceful; I left early (6:30 am), alone, to take my morning runs and never felt ill at ease. Victor, the owner, is very sweet and we always had plenty of "personal space". We loved staying here, and we will definitely stay here again!!!! LOVED IT!!!

La Maison is located in the residential area of Bakval. Do not be surprised but the individual streets within the neighbourhood(s) are not named; only the houses are numbered. I suggest you look up the location and print the map before you leave home. Take the main highway, L G Smith Blvd, from the airport if you can as it is the easiest way of getting there. Our car rental was not at the airport and we got lost. Thankfully, the island is not very big and people are friendly and pointed us out in the right direction. I do recommend you rent a car. You can walk to the beach from La Maison, however you will be walking on a street and crossing turnabout. Also, having a car is very beneficial for discovering rest of the island or getting your basic groceries. In general, Aruba’s landscape is quite barren and it was always nice to come back to La Maison, its pool and small tropical garden. Only three rooms are being rented to the tourists and they are located in a building opposite to the owner’s house, with the pool and garden area between the two. All rooms come out to/view the pool/garden area where you will also find the outdoor kitchen and variety of places to sit, lounge around or eat at. There is a telephone in the kitchen if you need to made dinner reservation or call the renting agent (Ardeline was super helpful. Michelle was not and created lots of chaos for us). The rooms are of a good size, have plenty of towels (bath & beach), small fridge, vault, folding chairs and cooler that can be taken to the beach. We stayed in room #2. The room was comfortable except there is only one small window next to the front door allowing for very little outside light. Room #1 is the largest but I recommend room #3 with the best layout and view. The outdoor kitchen is very handy and fun. We bought our basic groceries at the Super Food store which is well stocked and reasonably priced. Owner of La Maison was kind to assist us with many of our questions but was non-intrusive and we felt very comfortable and welcomed. Two cats and two turtles on the property made our stay even more fun! We would definitely go back to La Maison.
