The Premier Inn Isle of Wight Sandown (Merrie Gardens) Hotel is recognized for its ample parking, despite some guests grumbling about the new charges. The breakfast is often lauded, while Wi-Fi and room amenities receive mixed reviews. Although the rooms are generally described as basic and vary in size and modernity, the hotel is praised for its cleanliness.
The additional parking fee has been a point of contention for travelers expecting more value. The staff's friendliness and professionalism stand out, even with occasional slow service. Situated conveniently for island exploration, the hotel's location is appreciated, though it lacks beachfront access.

Detailed Reviews
The most notable part of staying here was the staff; Everybody I came into contact with was really chatty and friendly. I was staying in one of the Premier Plus rooms, and although I didn't notice a massive difference to the regular Premier Inn rooms, I always find Premier Inn's to be comfortable and you always know what you're getting. My only negative was that the view from my window was KFC, so I felt like I needed to keep the curtains closed the whole time to prevent people seeing into my room. Not a massive inconvenience though. I only had breakfast here, and it was nothing special, but filling enough and a decent selection. In their defence it was very quiet so I presume they were trying to avoid waste. I would definitely stay here again.

Hotel's Favourite
Fab nights sleep, we had a premier room and the bed was so comfy and the room had a lot of amenities. Parking may be an issue in future so be aware of that, as in it will cost to stay there. The cooked breakfast was lovely and staff were super friendly.

Stayed for a week in May. Great location. Close to bus stops, KFC, Morrisons and Aldi. The Merrie Gardens pub next door is really good. The breakfast at the PI is the best we’ve ever had at a PI. The chef at breakfast is just brilliant. He was always checking everything was ok for people. Cooked the bacon to people’s liking. Everything was cooked to perfection (no slimy whites on fried eggs). There was always plenty to choose from. Fresh fruit salad was lovely. Rooms were clean. The windows don’t open but the aircon works well so with the warmer days we had the heat was never an issue. Bed comfy. Down side for some is the WiFi connection wasn’t great. You can pay for the ultimate WiFi which I didn’t do so I can’t comment if this is worth having or not. All staff are friendly and check in was quick and easy. We arrived just before 3 and our room was just being checked so we were in within 5 minutes. Nothing negative I can say about this hotel. This wasn’t our first stay here and would definitely stay again.

Very tired and quite rundown hotel which disappointed us. Usually booking a Premier, you know what you're getting but not on this occasion. Scrap caravan dumped at the entrance, litter everywhere, 1 bath towel dispite booking the room for 2 adults. No net curtains for privacy during daylight, room smelled musty, 1 card key issued despite asking for another. Card needs to be inserted into a holder to power the room. If 1 of us left the room, the other needed to sit in darkness or you had to bother the porter to allow you back onto the 1st floor. No opening window for ventilation so, the rattly & noisy heating had to be used keeping us awake most of the night. Tea/coffee supplies were very sparce (2 sugars, 1 coffee sachet and 2 tea bags). The remote for the tv had a mind of its own. Overall, a very disappointing stay and although they claim to guarantee a good nights sleep, having reported all the above, we'll never hear from Premier again. Unuasually expensive for end of October as well but, the location was near friends we were visiting. We'll return to the IOW many times but, we won't be stopping here again.

So second time booking premier inn merrie gardens, as usual booked family room - double bed and two singles. A little bit snug but weather was marvellous so did not spend a lot of time in the hotel room. Room was satisfactory and clean no issues. I pre booked in March so avoided the £7.00 daily parking charge but I can see how it would add up over four nights, nearby there is a pub and kfc. Also a Morrisons which we used for dinner one night. Was cheap as chips. Happy kids and happy parents. Now where things went a bit down hill was on the Friday day before check out. I always book second room to allow bit more space. On arrival at check in I asked if the room was allocated as requested interconnecting and was reassured the room next door was allocated and the interconnecting door will be opened. Now on the Friday morning I left message with reception to fold up the bed blocking door and ensure the door was open ready at 3pm. When we arrived back at 3pm I was told by reception that “ow the room next door is flooded so we have allocated you the room opposite” I advised that with two small children it wouldn’t be suitable but informed as we had gone past the cancellation time I would need to call customer Service. Number given and informed they were open till 4pm. I stood outside in the baking heat as internet and phone connection is rubbish. 45 minutes later back and fourth was advised that I I am unable to complain until after my stay and should not have been advised to ring. The hotel would need to deal with the complaint. This point I was fuming. I spoke with a gentlemen who said he was assistant manager and advised I had been given wrong information and the room was flooded, when asked how long the hotel knew about flood was advised two day!!!! We had been at hotel 4 days and were not informed. Why ? Had we been informed we could have cancelled or used the credit for another break. We ended up taking the room as I knew we were not going ot get any where. Was major inconvenience as kids were separated on my daughters birthday. Had to take my son with my every time I needed something and had to move all our stuff over. Other than this the hotel stay was nice and the breakfast was great. Hot vegetarian options and continental breakfast also. We always went early as it can get quite busy. The hotel is remoter than the other hotels, but if you have car easy to get to and Sandown beach is 5/10 minute drive. Overall stay was okay and rooms are basic premier in rooms. If the weather is nice then it’s fine just for evening and sleep as we spend all day out sight seeing or on the beach, but if your family of four and spending all day in the hotel the room can feel cramped and crowded.

Central location made all areas of the island easily accessible. Lovely clean rooms. Be prepared to walk a fairly long way if you are in the end rooms, although we enjoyed this, as it was away from the noise of the guests coming and going.
Be warned that parking is now chargeable for hotel guests (ÂŁ7 per day). This was introduced the day we left (25 July) when signs were erected, so unsure whether this has actually been started or not, but this would need to be factored in to your costs. Free WiFi is horrendously slow, to the point of not being able to use it!! Have to say, with the cost of the rooms, high speed WiFi should be included, not an optional extra. Sadly, it seems they are regressing and trying to make extra cash wherever possible.
All the staff were marvellously friendly, helpful and professional, but did seem to struggle from time to time, as they sorted to be short staffed during peak periods.

Despite being a recently constructed hotel, it was surprising to find no USB charging facilities available. A decent Wi-Fi signal was present, but access required payment for premium service. Interestingly, it seemed as if a 3G, 4G, and 5G signal blocker had been installed, as strong signals were only accessible outside the hotel. The staff were amiable and accommodating, although they seemed understaffed on the evening we arrived, with receptionists also serving as waitstaff in the restaurant.
I require a room with accessibility features due to limited mobility. Although such a room was available, it was situated far from the front entrance, at the back of the hotel. Additionally, the parking fees exceeded ÂŁ7.00 per night, which I found excessively expensive, given that the only option for me was to use the disabled parking bay near the entrance.

We travelled to the Isle of Wight for a family funeral so it wasn’t the best of times. The staff at the Premier Inn Merries Gardens were so lovely, very professional with a sense of humour, the guy Joe, I think his name was was real funny and put us at ease straight away. We ate breakfast in the morning and it was just so nice and fresh and hot. The chef was such a nice guy too, they just seem so nice and naturally happy to talk to us, the room was so clean and fresh, smelt beautiful,

This is our second visit to this hotel, previously we had a premium room but due to this being a last minute visit we booked a standard room.
This premier inn seems to have gone a bit downhill, the room was looks a bit tired with scuffed on the walls, the toilet seat was a bit off colour, there was no toilet brush provided and the toilet paper is now the thinnest cheapest available!
The WiFi is a bit patchy ( unless you buy the premium package).
On check in the receptionist struggled to book us in (although he did his best).
My main gripe is we had a water leak in the bathroom, at first we didn’t think much of it , but it made the floor slippery so we reported it in the morning. The staff member said someone would look into it. Upon our return that evening no body had even been into our room!
We reported it again and a staff member said that the maintenance man was off today and gave us some towels to mop it up!
Then she said if we needed more or wanted to change rooms WE would have to sort it at reception.
As we were going home in the morning we didn’t bother.
The staff attitude was very dismissive and uncaring.
On the plus side the bed was comfortable.

Firstly, if I could give 4.5 stars, I would.
The staff are an absolute asset to this hotel. The chef was friendly and helpful. The breakfast was excellent both continental and cooked. The room was clean and comfortable.
This is my only criticism and the staff have no control over this...
There is absolutely no ventilation. The windows are fixed panels and the air vents only go down to 19C then switch off.
The room was stifling and stuffy.
Also concerning for escape if there was a fire.
Premier Inn senior management need to get these issues sorted.

I would use the main website for the Premier Inn rather than trying to contact the actual hotel as the hotel's staff attitude, when I stayed, was awful
Not sure but think so. Advisable to ring Kerrie Gardens before hand
Hi Mike. When we were there breakfast wasn't open yet it kept being put back a day so we ate at the Morrisons just a few mins walk from the PI. Tbh it was fantastic and good price. Hopefully by the time you go PI should have got their act together! Hope this helps you.
Huge car park. Just give your registration when you check in.
