We thought the 1863 was fantastic value for money. Can't really find anything to fault. Felt very relaxed there, it's very smart without ever being too formal or fussy. Fantastic location, nice rooms and bed, excellent breakfasts. Really a place to look forward to retreating to at the end of a long day on the lakes. We ate in the restaurant on our first night, it was £50 a head for 3 courses but will live long in the memory, it was really special. I'm a big fan of Ullswater and wouldn't consider staying anywhere else now

A lovely hotel. We loved this hotel with friendly staff , pretty decor and tasty food. We had room 7 which had a sofa area which was a lovely bonus. The meal is beautifully presented and very tasty but as it is nouveau cuisine, if you have been out walking all day it may not suffice. Overall a lovely stay with a lovely friendly atmosphere

Absolutely wonderful food which was backed up by fantastic service. 3 courses plus cheese board and a bottle of wine was £150 which we felt was worth it. We also stayed and the room was well equipped and clean. Breakfast was fab too! Only a matter of time before a Michelin star is awarded.

Lovely quiet location, yet just a 3 minute walk into the centre of Pooley Bridge. Our room was the suite, exceptionally clean and very well appointed. We dined in for 2 evenings - creative menu, fresh ingredients and attentive service from the staff. Would definitely stay again.
