The name “Zion” means a place of peace and refuge. As a sanctuary with over 146,000 acres of cliffs, canyons, diverse plant and animal life, and uninterrupted beauty, Zion is well-named. Its massive sandstone walls, some as high as 3,800 feet, offer an opportunity for serenity and reflection for all who visit—and Zion Lodge offers the only in-park lodging inside this hiker’s paradise. Enjoy a selection of comfortable and spacious accommodations, a year-round restaurant serving local favorites and a wide variety of ways to keep you entertained during your stay in Zion National Park.

Zion National Park Lodge captivates many guests with its rustic allure, offering spacious rooms that boast cozy fireplaces and stunning views. However, some visitors have raised concerns about the cleanliness and room amenities, with occasional reports of maintenance issues.
While the service quality varies, with some guests encountering slow responses, others experience welcoming staff. Despite its picturesque location in the park, which some travelers find ideal, the value proposition is questioned due to the high prices, particularly for meals and basic rooms.

Detailed Reviews
I thought the Lodge was perfect for our needs. We were in a King Suite which has a microwave and fridge, other rooms don’t and a fridge is a must in this heat. The room was tastefully done in Mission Style furniture, it’s a Lodge not the Four Seasons. Rooms had some minor wear and tear but nothing to complain about. The shower had a tub, but water pressure was on the low side. All rooms have a patio or balcony, but from what I understand all King rooms are on the second floor. We faced the back side of grounds which was pretty quiet. To me, the cabins didn’t look very inviting. They are right on the main paths where people are constantly walking.
COVID-19 protocols are in place so no room cleaning/replacements unless you specifically ask. The restaurants on site are all take-out with limited menus. We found the 7 minute drive into town quite easy to eat out or grab groceries. FYI: prices on grocery items are sky high (can of progresso soup was $5.99) so if you can pick up what you need before arriving into Springdale.
We booked our shuttle tickets in advance and found no issues with getting on and off. Each shuttle will only hold 14 people so you may want for a few to go by, but they are pretty frequent. For August, the park was not crowded at all. Even the shuttle driver mentioned this is 1/2 the usual amount of tourists they see. Early mornings and evenings were wonderful because most people had returned to their hotels in town. If you like to have a pool, walks to stores/restaurants and amenities I would suggest staying in town, but if you want the location of being right in the park and walking trails without having to take a shuttle, I highly recommend staying here.

My husband and I stayed one night in one of the west cabins. The cabins look rustic from the outside, but the furnishings were very nice inside. Staying at the lodge allowed us to drive into the park after the parking lots were already full (at 11:30am). We enjoyed the last day of shuttles before they were stopped due to Covid-19, but the second day we were allowed to access all of the park by car, so we were very happy to have the lodge driving permit. The staff was very helpful and could not have been nicer. The main downside was lack of internet throughout the property, which we understood as you are in and surrounded by the park. Also, a mini-fridge in the room would have been nice for water/snacks for hiking. There was a variety of options for dinner, and the breakfast buffet (not included, but reasonably priced) was excellent. It's a little pricey for the room, but worth it for the uniqueness.

Our family absolutely loves staying inside the national parks when we are able and this lodge was in such a beautiful location. It is located in the canyon and has a wonderful lawn out front where deer and turkey came by each night. The staff was helpful and the rooms were well appointed and we loved having breakfast on the deck every morning. We didn't stay in the cabins but those looked like a great place to stay as well. The gift shop was very nice and extensive however the restaurant was closed due to covid. It was advantageous in being so close to everything and made it easy getting our young boys to the trailheads.

Staying in the park was necessary for this stay, especially during COVID when shuttles weren’t running. But I would not recommend staying at Zion lodge under any other circumstance. I’ve sent the below complaints to Xanterra and followed up, with absolutely no response, so I am resorting to writing this review. This has been my worst experience ever with a hotel, and it’s sad they have no concept of customer service.
1. Upon check-in, the front desk (Linda from California) gave us the wrong room number. So we unpacked the car, lugged our bags to the door, only to find the keys didn’t work. We reloaded the car, drove back to the front desk to be given the correct room number. 30 minutes wasted.
2. Once we got into the correct room, we found that the room was not clean - used towels were on the floor, garbage cans were full. Sheets were wrinkled and the fitted sheet was on horizontally (this wasn’t fixed even after they “cleaned the room”). Pictures below. Walking into an unclean room was especially concerning in the time of COVID, when sanitation standards are supposed to be up.
3. Upon finding the room unclean, I tried to call the front desk to report this and the phone rang for 5 minutes with no answer. With no other way to contact the front desk I was again forced to get in the car and drive back to the front desk for a second time to report the room needed to be cleaned. 15 minutes wasted.
4. The front desk told me that because the hotel is sold out she couldn’t immediately switch me into a clean room so we would have to wait for it to be cleaned. (Although it was 4:30pm, just at the start of check in, so I find it hard to believe that all of the guests checking in that day had already arrived). 45 minutes wasted as we sat outside of the room waiting for it to be cleaned.
Besides all of that, the WiFi didn’t work, trash cans by the parking lot were overflowing and swarmed with bugs, beds uncomfortable.
It’s a much better bet to stay in Springdale where the rooms are nicer, you get a pool, free breakfast, working WiFi, and some actual customer service - all for less money!

Cabin was very dirty and we didn’t feel safe here (Covid). Toilet looked like it hadn’t been cleaned in weeks and there was an accumulation of gross brown grime in the corners of the bathroom. Also, right now, most reputable Hotels, are leaving a 24 hour period in between guests, but this place isn’t. People would check out in the morning housekeeping would spend about 30 minutes in the room and then by afternoon more guests had checked into the same room.
The floor is wood and creeks loudly when you walk on it, also there were dust bunnies in all 4 corners.
It seems as if all the cabins have adjoining rooms and the walls are so thin you can hear whole conversations.
Like I said in the title, the only reason to stay here is that it is just a short walk to the shuttle pick up and there are a couple of trails directly across from the lodge. Just as an FYI, if you get a shuttle pass and you can only get it for the afternoon, it doesn’t matter, because everyone that stays at the lodge can board the shuttle at any time. Our shuttle pass was for 12 noon, but we were able to catch a 10 AM shuttle.

We arrived early on April 19th and asked if our room was available. They assigned us to ONE specific room (108 ADA) and they allowed the people to check-out late. I spoke with Linda the supervisor and asked her why they couldn’t find another room for us since my daughter was injured from a hike. She was argumentative and condescending. She said unnecessary things like, “I’m doing everything I can but I won’t go clean your room for you!”, she also said “I’m not calling people to ask them to switch rooms with you!” Linda is a supervisor who is showing the rest of the staff to be argumentative and to say things that are completely unnecessary. She did not give me the room until 4:00pm even though the room was ready hours prior according to the cleaning crew.
Here’s the worse part, on my check-out date, 4/21, despite having a Do Not Disturb sign on my door, I get several knocks on our door at 10 am. It was housekeeping reminding me I am to check-out.
I did not receive a discount, I paid full price and my experience here was horrible.

We stayed at the Zion National Park Lodge for 4 nights the first week of August. The convenience of staying in the park cannot be overstated. It was so peaceful in the mornings and evenings before shuttles of people arrived. It was so wonderful hiking the Emerald Pools trails in the evenings and without crowds, bike riding around the park on the hotel's bikes. Easy access to Kayenta Trail, Angels Landing, The Narrows. Zion is a special place and made more so by the opportunity to experience it without the crowds.
We stayed in a Double Queen room in Watchman lodge. Odd number rooms are facing the back canyon wall rather than out to the middle of the valley and opposite wall. This meant our room was a little dark and depressing. The a/c units are in great need of repair or replacement. We have a split unit in our garage at home and it is very efficient and quiet. The one in our hotel room was extremely loud and practically shook the whole room. Glad to have a/c but it was a bummer trying to sleep. Mattresses were a little lumpy or saggy. Wi-fi was not reliable. Sometimes worked ok. No cell service, could not make a call out so was glad to have the hotel telephones to use. The bathrooms again, nice to have a bathroom but in need of some tlc and rather dark and dank. No fridge, but we did have a coffee maker. We opted to wait for coffee at the Castle Dome Cafe.
The breakfast offered at the Cafe was good, caffee was great, and the employees were accommodating if you wanted a special order, but the hours of operation were a little inconsistent two days opening 45 minutes late. Lunch and dinner at Red Rock Grill was very good. We tried most of the items on the menu and everything we had was very good. Drinks were good. We also ate outside of the park in Springdale as well. Oscar's Cafe was great!
Waitstaff were great! Front desk, gift shop and housekeeping employees we encountered were all very nice and professional.
We took an open air shuttle tour one evening with Tina as our guide which was very informative. We also booked a slot canyon tour one afternoon in Kanab. We went with Dreamland Safari Tours and met our driver and guide Natalie about an hour drive away thru the east entrance and toured Peekaboo Slot Canyon near Pink Coral Sand Dunes Park. Our two teenagers really enjoyed it. A real memorable side trip!

This hotel has no amenities and is in need of an update. The staff is not friendly or helpful. They advertise that they allow parking inside the park but it is very useless as they don’t allow cars to travel past the lodge, You are required to take a shuttle bus around the park. You are much better off staying at a hotel just outside the park that is still serviced by the same shuttle inside the park. The hotels outside of the park have nice pools and other amenities.

We stayed in one of the historic cabins, with a fireplace. They are small but big enough for your stuff. They also have 2 sink areas, one with a Frig and microwave, coffee maker. The Lodge is not nearly my favorite National Park Lodge as the original burned to the ground and it was rebuilt quickly, without the original character. The lobby area is so dark that it is impossible to read anything unless on your device. We had hoped to sit there in the evening instead of heading straight to the room, but it wasn’t possible.
Great location! Has a restaurant and a coffee shop. The outdoor patio is nice.

Loved being in a front room in Sentinel looking out at the grass area where all the deer 🦌 gather in the evening. Only con was rooms are very dim and could use some more light. Loved that they had a filtered water fountain that also could be used to fill water bottles, etc (bathroom water has chemical taste).

No they do not. You would have to located those facilities in Springdale
Yes, you can. Normally you will not be allowed to check in earlier unless it is a rare day when they are not fully booked. Park in area closest to lodge to initially check in and they will direct you where to book for balance of day until 4 pm. There is a shuttle stop very close to the lodge.
Check daily. You may need to rsvp on individual dates rather than a block of dates for better luck. People reserve but cancel at last minute. It will be tough though for this time of the year as it is peak season. People usually book a year in advance
Yes, you can get into the park. You will be given a code for the gate and a permit tag for your dash in the car to park.
Call the lodge 435-772-7700 for all other questions.
