Posada Máximo is a beautiful old traditional building set in a lovey little village just by the Picos National park. The staff are super friendly and the food was out of this world. The sirloin was to die for. They helped us with everything we needed without hesitation.

Room Tip: Great off road parking which is handy in this little village with restricted parking elsewhere.

The place is prominent on the single road and thus easy to find with free parking both front and rear. We were quickly checked in by staff with some English. The bedroom was clean and rustic in style if rather small. The bathroom was tiny with the fixtures worn but functional. Having booked evening meal, we were given the "menu del dia". This has a limited choice but we were able to chose something that we liked. The whole meal had something of the work's canteen about it. Touring the area we naturally retired to bed after 20;00 hrs. Unfortunately our room was above the dining room where some type of party was going on into the small hours. Due to the rustic construction of the building there is no ceiling over the dining room, rather just the floor of the bedroom above. We complained in the morning about our poor sleep, the single word apology in Spanish was conveyed with the same meaning in any language: disinterest. We would not stay again but if you do be sure to walk around the buildings opposite they are wonderful and lead down to a stream and a footpath signed as a comino.

We stayed two nights at the Casa Maximo (at the beginning and end of a walking trip) and had opted for dinner, bed and breakfast. There wasn't anyone on reception when we arrived and we felt the welcome was a bit lack lustre. Our room was on the second floor and, as well where our bed was, had a high mezzanine with a wooden cot in it. Basic decor, cold on arrival, a rather tired looking bathroom but a nice view towards some of the peaks despite having the road below. Dinner was at 20:00 and a set menu affair. A couple of acceptable starters (chicken soup and a fabada dish typical of the region) were followed by decidedly poor mains (trout and a pork loin dish) - both cold and not at all well presented. Desserts were over sweet and basic (rice pudding and what was billed as an apple flan). We had red wine which was acceptable for the price but served, as is usual for the area, chilled. Service was efficient but a bit brusque. Breakfast was also disappointing - orange juice (not fresh), a couple of slices of toasted bread with little packets of butter and jams, a selection of pre-packed cakes and a cup of coffee. Again, no particular attention to service. We made the return visit purely because of the convenience of location and our experience was much the same (and we were given the same room), except we did ask for some cheese at breakfast and this was forthcoming (and the service was more friendly than on the first occasion). For our evening meal, we opted for the most basic dish we could see on the menu in the hope that it would be OK, but even the omelette I had was cold and rubbery, the bread was stale and the asparagus starters turned out to be from a jar. No one came to ask if everything was OK. We concluded that maybe everyone was just tired at the end of the season. Of interest to those who like embroidery is the large collection of samplers which decorate most of the walls.

Casa Maximo is a delightful family owned Inn/ restaurant on the edge of Espinama. We chose it as it was convenient for the cable car at Fuente De. It only has about half a dozen rooms and ours was comfortable and like the rest of the property spotlessly clean. It is a traditional inn with lots of polished wood. Our lack of Spanish was not a problem. The restaurant food tended to be traditional hearty mountain fare and the menu del dia gave a wide choice. The house Rioja at 7E a bottle was very drinkable!!! The hotel was very happy to provide us with a lift up to the cable car so we could do the walk down. We really enjoyed our stay and felt the hotel provided great value for money.

A lovely cosy hotel in a beautiful location! We stayed here with a group on a walking holiday. The bar selection is good and very well priced. the bar is cosy and welcoming with a roaring fire. The food we ate was very good and service very friendly. I had trout and it was delicious! The hotel has a real family feel to it and it is clearly popular with locals popping in to have a coffee or a drink in the bar area which gave it a nice feel. Rooms are comfortable and cosy. Views are wonderful. The breakfast selection was not huge, but it was adequate for our needs and we enjoyed it. Excellent coffee was served!

The Posado Maximo is a well kept friendly establishment ideal for walking holidays. Without exception all staff were welcoming and always willing to help. Half board is excellent value, although the breakfasts are a little basic. The inn should consider adding to the breakfast choice and increase the price to compensate. Overall a very enjoyable stay.

Wonderful pousada. Staff, whom i think in the main were all family, were great and very helpful. We ate in the Maximo's restaurant both nights and the food was excellent. Nothing was any trouble for them. The rooms were very clean and extremely comfortable.

The Posada Restaurante Casa Maximo is a small hotel attached to a good restaurant serving good Spanish food. The ambience is great with a bar, where the locals can watch football and a quiet well furnished restaurant where food is served. I was there with a group of friends on half board terms. Breakfast was very Spanish with toast, jam, cold meats and cheese. But they also served cereals when we asked. Dinner was from the daily menu and consisted of three choices of starter, three choices of main course and five or six choices of dessert. Dinner came with water and wine all on a €12.50 menu. Our room was quite small but clean and comfortable. If you want a small, clean and friendly hotel just 3 km from the foot of the Fuentes De cable car I would certainly recommended Casa Maximo
