We were welcomed by staff who were fluent in English and also gave great recommendations.
Our room (204) was sizable for Japan. It had a queen bed, a smaller bed,and a couch. It was nicely appointed. They let you borrow a smart phone for local calls and navigation. The toilet and shower are in separate rooms. Many USB outlets. We liked the room.
Sleep quality was poor due to construction noise outside. The hotel was full so there were no room changes available. We were woken at 530am both nights we stayed here (We stayed in the hotel in Mid May 2019.). This was disappointing.
There is no breakfast but there are plenty of places around. There is drink machine in the lobby which has some interesting choices.
The location is great. 5-10 minute walk to metro. Only a few blocks from Dotonbori. It is surrounded by love hotels which is interesting.
There is laundry available.
I enjoyed most of my stay here, but the construction noise was pretty annoying.

Dear Mr./Ms. catchginger Thank you for the great comments and evaluation. First and foremost, We apologize deeply for your sleeping problems. Perhaps due to the renovation of the building on the other side, if they were working in an insane time zone, we should warned to them. Also, We regret that we could not offer you a substitute room because we were full. If you have the opportunity to come to Japan next time, we would be glad if we had the opportunity to return gift. Once again, thank you very much for your comments. Yours sincerely, Naoya Kojo HOTEL88SHINSAIBASHI

Stayed here for an entire week and I would definitely recommend it.
Staff: Staff here all speak English, and were able to answer pretty much everything I flung at them. Special shout-out to the manager, who arranged a free shuttle ride to the OCAT (bus station to go to the airport), and also to the staff who rode with us, and wheeled our luggage all the way into the terminal and directly to the ticket booth, and helped us purchase our tickets. Top notch service for sure!
Location: A stones throw away from Shinsaibashi and Dotonburi shopping. (make sure you have Rikuro cheesecake and pudding.) As convenient as it gets, but not noisy. Probably a 5min walk to Namba Station.
Rooms: extremely spacious for Japan. Also the only hotel in the world i've been to, that provides wall-mounted multi-adaptor plugs, so that you can plug in any and all devices. Also the only Hotel in the world that i've been to that provides something like 10-12 USB charging points so you won't have to use your own.
The only minor issue we had was that the toilet bowl was in it's own separate room, and after using it, we'd have to open 2 doors just to get to the sink. Can't imagine the potential for bacteria to accumulate on all the doors!
That aside, rooms were well-maintained, new, and came with Shiseido Toiletries.
No breakfast, but has a nice area with a wide variety of drinks (both hot and cold) that's available till midnight daily.
Highly recommended!

Dear Dr Luke Ho, Many thanks for your kind words regarding your stay at our hotel. Although many staff here do not speak English as their first language, they do relish the opportunity to practice and use what they've learnt. Thank you for you encouraging words towards that. The transportation service we provide is a complimentary gesture to all guests of our hotel to help them move on to their next destination with ease. It was our pleasure to provide this service to you. We're pleased that the room was to your liking and that you found the amenities within it beneficial to your needs. This hotel is very clean and comfortable, and it is located very close (within walking distance) to Dotonbori bridge where the Glico sign is, and also a few train stations. The perfect hotel to stay in Osaka, and good for families too.
But what I’d like to compliment this hotel on, is for their amazing hospitality. I was traveling with my toddler son who caught viral tonsillitis in Kyoto, and got worse by the time we arrived in Osaka. I asked the hotel reception for recommendation on nearby clinic. Without hesitation, the hotel staff found as many information as they can on nearby hospitals that was open that Saturday, and they offered to take us to the hospital using the hotel car. Their owner drove us to the hospital himself, and we were accompanied by one of their Japanese hotel reception staff who spoke perfect English. In the hospital he translated everything that the nurses and doctor told us. My son had to get infused for about 2 hours in the hospital, and the hotel staff stayed and wait with us until we were done. Afterwards, the owner sent us back to the hotel. In my whole life, I have never found a hotel with such an amazing hospitality and kindness, and we are really greateful. We cannot thank them enough for making our journey in Japan with a sick child much easier and more pleasant. We will definitely spread the words about how great Hotel 88 Shinsaibashi is to friends and families back home. Thank you again!

Location is superb - with plenty of nearby restaurants, shopping centers and the MRT stations. All at walking distance. Very convenient even with young kids. The hotel neighbourhood is vibrant, good for shopping - yet quiet and peaceful for rest and sleep. The hospitality is also very good. It is clean, comfortable and beyond our expectation in terms of safety, comfort, convenience... will return to stay there again. Highly recommended for first timers at Osaka.

In choosing between Kita and Minami areas (latter is south near Dotonbori), Minami wins hands down.
Being close to Dotonbori meant we cold walk everywhere for dinner and local sigh seeing.
One can take the subway to visit Umeda area.
Hotel 88 Shinsaibashi is a bright modern hotel with reasonable sized rooms (by Japanese standards with a fridge and pot for boiling water.
While there was no breakfast, there is an area with tables and chairs with free soup, coffee and tea, as well as a microwave if one chooses to heat up a meal.
Kazuhisa Horie at the front desk was very helpful, changing our room to include a view window, providing a USB cable that my wife had misplaced (not the hotel's fault) and arranging a complimentary transfer to the OCAT bus terminal for us without us asking. He is an asset to the hotel.
We ate delicious Okonomyaki at the loverly nearby Hozenji Sanpei and also at Ajinoya.
We really enjoyed walking Kuromon Ichiba market which was fun to see the raw and prepared food (and prices) but come hungry as there are a lot of good eating options. We ate Takoyaki there (under one of the big red lanterns). Fun to watch them prepare the balls.
Unfortunately the National Museum of Art was closed and there was no performance at the Bunraku theatre.

Wonderful hotel the best location. You’re right in the fringes of Dotombori with only 3mins walk to right in the middle of the best of Osaka foodies.
Only 2 years old since Reno and still kept as new. Rooms in Japan are pretty small but Hotel88 rooms were good size for 3 adults in one room. Toilet, bathroom and basin were all separate so no 1 person is hogging the bathroom. Very clean and fresh.
All you can drink hot and cold beverages including soups In the lobby. Free pool table and 24hr self serve laundry. Very well decorated lobby, lounging around area and rooms.
And only 8mins walk from JR Namba train station. I recommend this hotel even if you have to commute further.
Loved the staff even with limited communications staff were well trained and friendly for advice. Japanese at its best.

Location, Location, Lotion! A big asset for this hotel is its location. It's located in the Dontonburi part of town. Close to restaurants, bars, you name it. I was in town for a concert at the Namba Hatch and the hotel was located directly across the street from the Namba Hatch. I couldn't get closer if I tried. Also, close to a great underground mall that led to the subway station and a bus terminal. The hotel is in a great location!
The room: I was impressed by the size of the room, it is big for a hotel room in Japan. Spotless room.
Service: The hotel staff were great! Extremely helpful and knowledgeable.
I couldn't of asked more from this hotel. I will gladly stay here again the next time I'm in Osaka.

The hotel is situated in a good location. Less than 5 mins walk to the underground mall that leads you to Namba station. There is a family mart within 2 mins walk and Don Quijote is less than 10 mins walk away. Just across the Don Quijote is where the action is (Glico man, Dotonbori, Shinsaibashi, etc). Hotel is near all the love hotels but it is not a rowdy or sleazy area. It's safe to walk in the middle of the night.
The room is clean, not much of a decor but it's fully equipped including USB ports. Room size is very decent and comfortable too. Quite roomy if I may say. There is also a Handy phone which one can use for wifi/basic navigation. Lobby also provided drinks 24/7 (coffee, tea, soft drinks, soup).
Overall I would say the hotel is ok for the price for the we paid (would have expected more for the price) but the best part of the hotel is the service of the staff. I think customer service is unbeatable! It was raining on our departure day and we asked the hotel to get a taxi for us. They offered to send us to the train station instead on their company vehicle. That is definitely going out of the way to assist us and I have never experienced that in Japan before. So top marks for customer service!

We were the only Western tourists there, interestingly enough. Location couldn’t be better, next to metro, America-Mura, dotonburi etc. No breakfast but 24 hr beverage bar in lobby and coin laundry. Rooms are good, decor in hotel is strange so “vibe” is a bit unusual. We were stuck in Osaka due to a typhoon so felt a little like we overstayed there but this was a pretty good base.

As you mentioned, we are conveniently located in almost the center of Dotonbori area, so we hope that you had a variety of experiences which made you excited by walking around here. In the meantime, we are sorry that the typhoon hit Osaka during your stay. This year, the weather has been a kind of strange and we have had a couple more typhoons even after the one of July.
