What an awesome hotel/sta! I just got back from a 9 day stay with my 21 year old son. Everything at the hotel was perfect for what we needed. I would agree with many reviews that the hotel would not be ideal for a family with young kids, but for what we were looking for, it was ideal. The hotel is in the middle of bustling Shinjuku and there must be 200 restaurants within short walking distance of the hotel. There are a number of train stations within a 5-10 walk depending on the station needed. We wanted a little more SF than typical since my son and I were sharing the room for an extended period, so we booked the artist designed “styrofoam” room. The room was awesome. The only issue I have with the room is there isn’t a good spot to sit down and face out at the amazing view from the room. The room was on the northwest corner of the 33rd floor and has a view of Mt Fuji on one end, and the Tokyo Sky Tree on the other. It’s not real clear on the website, but this specific room does include a washer and dryer in the unit. I wish I’d known as I would have packed a little lighter. This hotel was highly recommended by a friend, and I would highly recommend it to anyone looking to stay in Tokyo. Also, as a side note from a straight hotel review… if you are like I was and have some reservations about going to Tokyo, don’t hesitate, you won’t regret it!

Getting there

Getting to the hotel from narita airport, you can take the keisei skyliner to change at Nippori at the Yamamote line to change and stop at Takanobaba and change to another train Seibu Shinjuku station. It will be a few minutes walk to the hotel from there. Very convenient.

To go back to the airport, book yourself an express bus directly at the lobby entrance (QR code is there) with a screen on the departure timing to various airports so you don’t have to lug your luggage.

Stay
Luxurious hotel right smack in the middle of all the action, eateries, shopping, etc. I stayed for 7 nights at the premier suite which I believe had one of the best views around this area. Room is spacious for Japanese standards. And the 2 toilets and 2 bath is something we really appreciate.

Amenities are all given, and you have everything in the room, including a Marshall Bluetooth speaker.

Staff are friendly and eager to help during check in etc. I did not have much chance to interact with them since I also did not book one with breakfast.

One tip is the enter the hotel through Starbucks directly downstairs, instead of going one round to enter the lobby. Just cut through Starbucks and go down the stairs immediately and make a left turn to the lobby.

Afterthoughts
Good and new hotel in an excellent location.

Some things will need to be improved, out of the 7 nights, I only request for rooms to be cleared twice. The first time, housekeeping forgot to refill my towels after removing them, forgot to refill our drinking waters and even left a dirty tshirt in my toilet that don’t belong to me. I believe that could be used by them to clean the toilet, else no reasons someone’s dirty tshirt is found and left in my toilet. Should have definitely used a cleaner rag to clean up the toilet. I did not crate a fuss about it but just took the tshirt out of the room since it is a new hotel that just opened for one week and all staff are new too. But this should not happen next time again, especially since this is a suite booking.

P/S check out Ichiran 3 mins walk away and the 24 hours Don Quixote too.

We booked the Premiere Twin on the 36th floor with absolute breathtaking views of the city. Watching the sunrise each morning and the night lights each evening was awesome.

Specific to the room we found:
A fantastic shower with handheld and an excellent, deep soaking tub. The water pressure was AmAzInG! Toilet had its own room with the bidet features. The amenities were made of wood (toothbrush & comb). It is spacious and quiet too. Truly the best WiFi I’ve ever experienced in a hotel anywhere. Bedding was incredibly comfortable.

The hotel has the most responsive elevators. The front desk team was professional and I was happy to see diversity among them. The common areas are kept clean and sparse to ensure the view from the 18th floor lobby is unobstructed.

The hotel buffet breakfast is great, especially the espresso, fresh fruit, baked goods, Japanese items, pizza and gelato. The servers were delightful and efficient.

We were so close to the red light Kabukicho district yet we could walk to Isaten, the most fabulous department store with a rooftop garden and endless gourmet food vendors. The neighborhood is full of young people enjoying the night life. And then, oddly, there would be Moms with their strollers walking in front of the hostess bars.

The hotel is very close to the train station, but we took a taxi for 800 yen. The hotel also hosts the bus line that takes you to Haneda airport. It could not be more convenient!

Ultra-modern hotel in the middle of all the action of Shinjuku. The area immediately surrounding the hotel is a bit sleazy, but not at all dangerous. Folks recommend entering the restaurant for the first time via the Starbucks and I do NOT agree with that. When you enter for the first time look for the passage just to the right of the entrance to Starbucks. You'll take the elevator there to the 18th floor lobby. When you come and go from this hotel it's a much more pleasant experience to enter/exit from the side of the Prince Hotel.

There is no real lobby at this hotel and little to no public spaces.

Our standard room was quite small, but well designed with floor to ceiling windows that made the room feel larger than it was.

A big plus is the limousine bus to both airports that stops literally below the hotel at the foot of the tower.

Breakfast was every good, but the organization of the meal was poor. We encountered long waiting lines several times. This could be solved by opening the dining room from 6am rather than 7am. Also, the hotel could ask guests to choose a time slot for their breakfast in advance as other hotels in Japan did.

I really enjoyed my 5 nights at The Groove. I was part of a small group of golfers and it was an ideal location for us. It was right in the middle of the Kabukicho district, though as the hotel goes between the 17-38th floor there was no street noise. I had a deluxe room and it was well designed and comfortable. If there had been two in the room it may have been a bit tight. I thought the breakfast offering was expensive for what it was but there were not too many other places to go in the area. The laundry on the 20th floor has five machines that all do a wash and dry or wash only. You can monitor them from the TV in your room. All in all, I’d definitely stay here again.

The Hotel Groove was located in a very good central location in the Shinjuku City. It is important to know you are steps from Kabukicho, which is Tokyo's red light district. Things are a little more 'seedy' (more adult businesses) and the roads are a bit more dirty than the rest of Tokyo (or Japan for that matter). So know that you're in a microcosm of Tokyo.

Regarding the Hotel, it's located in Kabukicho Tower. Finding it is a bit of a challenge, but once you get your bearings it's no issue. Lots of entertainment - claw machines, arcades, pachinko, music and a variety of restaurants are all within walking distance of the Hotel.

Wife and I stayed in a King Deluxe room on the 28th Floor. Amazing view. There are few high rise hotels with amazing views and windows like the Hotel Groove. Room was clean and modern with nice amenities like a Japanese style toilet, Modern Rain Shower and a clean sink. Laundry room on the 20th had washer/dryers and irons + vending machines. None of that was included in the room itself, but this was not an issue for us.

Fair warning, the rooms are small. It's like 70% bed, 20% bathroom and 10% leftover walking space. There are no closets and our room did not have much area to lay out suit cases, so we had to open and rest them on a couple chairs at the foot of the bed. It worked. We spent most of our time out on the town, so only came to the hotel to sleep and rest, so this was actually a perfect situation.

If I came back to Japan and stayed in Shinkuju, I would definitely stay here again. It was a solid value for the price relative to other hotels in Japan. It was modern, clean and the staff were all friendly. And the location was unbeatable. Definitely recommend.

the hotel has laundry and sundry facility by inserting money to the machine. Been stayed for 9 nights yet at the last night got awful experience. The hotel staff took out my clothes from the machine reasoning that I late to pick up the clothes while other guest waiting. I put timer on my phone based on the time remaining displayed on the machine PLUS additional 10 mins time since the timer can go up or go down adjusting by itself. On this occasion, the other guest can't even wait for 3 mins and asks the hotel staff to take my clothes out. Every night I wait for people who pick up their clothes late, sometimes more than 15 mins and I dare not to take out their clothes because I honor other's privacy. The hotel must create the rule about laundrying.

I spent 2 nights at this Hotel and I found the only positive was its location in the centre of Shinzuku, although there may be several drunks in the area later at night. The arrival and departure from the hotel is indeed an effort. You have to be dropped off and picked up from the basement of the hotel – on B3. To get to the reception of the hotel you need to take two elevators and then another to your room. I booked a deluxe room. The room is very small with no room for bedside tables and the space for your suitcase was not big enough for mine. If you are a double, you will have fun managing your luggage in the room. There is no 'traditional' bathroom, instead, it is in the open as you enter your room with two glass doors for the shower and toilet and the hand basin is at the entrance of the room. There may be limited privacy if that concerns you.

If you have a driver picking you up for an airport transfer, for instance, they may not know where to go as the hotel is relatively new. I had to get the front desk staff to talk to him on the phone to tell him what and where to go.

For a 3* hotel it is relatively expensive.

I understand that my review may be a bit harsh considering many others liked the hotel. I suppose it all comes down to ones expectations and previous travel experience.

Hotel Groove is a very nice hotel with a very beautiful view outside of the Shinjuku skyline. It is located near a lot of establishments and attractions which you can reach just by walking. The staff with different nationalities are friendly and accommodating and can communicate in English. The hotel has an artsy and futuristic vibe. A robot delivered our request for an extra towel in our room which surprised us and made our kids happy. Hotel Groove provides an experience different from your usual hotel accommodation. It was definitely a worthwhile stay. We hope to have another opportunity to visit and stay in Hotel Groove in the future.

This hotel is awesome. It was our first time in Japan and we enjoyed the hotel very much- in fact, wish we would have stayed a little longer.

The lobby is on the 18th floor of the Kabuchiko Tower, and there is a very fun “food hall” on the 2nd floor that has stalls open early/late. We didn’t find the food there to be exceptional, but it was a very fun vibe and convenient. There is also a Starbucks on the ground level. We did not try to the hotel restaurant as we wanted to spend most of our time eating around Tokyo.

Service was very kind, helpful, and professional. We didn’t require much, so not a ton of interaction. But I thought it was very kind when I wanted a coffee at 6am (and nothing in Shinjuku is open at that hour), the front desk staff took out her iPhone to Airdrop me what she thought would be the nicest konbini. Like… I opened Maps and found 7 konbinis within 5min walking but she insisted this one 7-11 was the best. Very kind.

We got a good deal on one of the artist rooms and it was so cool. We had the Groove room which was designed to look like some of the furniture was on the walls. Really nice sized room with a wonderful bathroom, comfy bed, and a gorgeous wraparound view. I think we were on the “wrong side” of the building for the most beautiful view of Tokyo, but to have our entire room with floor to ceiling windows was really wonderful. All the amenities were high quality as well.

In general, we just loved the vibe of this place. It was very nice but felt energetic and not stuffy. Location was convenient enough (about 7min walk from most Shinjuku station entrances) and we could get anywhere in Tokyo within 30min. While the train station is massive, Apple Maps and Google Maps guided us to the correct entrances, platforms, etc and it was overall quite easy.

Would definitely recommend this hotel for your Tokyo visit.

I had the option to leave my luggage there before check in, didn't use any luggage forwarding services there. The check in counter is really simple and automated so they might not recieve the luggage. Best to call or email them.

Narita express as no need to change trains. But if you are getting in late I would either book a shared or private transfer. Much less hassle and worth the money.

We had a premier room and there was a single trundle bed in there as well, even though there was only 2 of us. So even with a king and the single bed there was still plenty of room.
