Getting there
Great for walkers
Places to stay are graded on a 0-100 scale. The higher the grade, the easier it is for travellers to find restaurants and things to do within walking distance.
The building is not new, and the old-fashioned room key is symbolic. The room is not small, but the table, half of which is taken up by the reading lamp, hair dryer, and electric kettle, leaves little space for placing items, and there is no luggage rack. The power outlet by the pillow does not have a stand, so you cannot use it to charge your smartphone while sleeping. The bathroom has a step of about 25 cm, so you need to be careful when leaving. The shower room is separated by glass. There was a VERSOS car-compatible portable refrigerator, which I had never seen in a hotel before. The large public bath on the 4th floor has 2 faucets, 2 bathtubs with hot water and lukewarm water, and 2 tubs filled with water for the sauna.

Considering the price, the room was spacious and clean, the amenities were plentiful, and the pajamas were super comfortable! The shower in the twin room was spacious, so even with a small child it was easy to get in. This was great. The twin room was spacious enough to spread out two suitcases around the bed. I was also very satisfied with the polite service of the hotel staff. The reason for the four stars is the red mold in the shower room. But for this price I can put up with it. 😊

Good location of the hotel, close to the station and various points of interest. Absolutely negative was the fact that the room smelled of smoke and the window could not be opened to allow for fresh air. Bed comfortable enough, bathroom clean but I wouldn't recommend it.

Rock hard bed, smoky room (even on the non-smoking floor), slow elevator and, my word, the most useless staff I have come across in Japan.
During check in, as another foreign couple were checking in, the staff couldn't tell whose passport was whose, and who was attached to which room. It's not even as if we all looked the same; just utterly ridiculous.
On top of that, the hardness of the bed and the smokiness of the room cannot be overstated.
If you're wide in the shoulders (or simply fat) you'll struggle to fit in the bathroom. I could barely turn around at the sink without hitting the wall.
Finally, they don't offer Takyubin (luggage shipping) services; you have to go to the adacent Family Mart for that.
The only redeeming quality is that the location is good.
I last went here around 10-13 years ago. It has fallen a long, long way in the intervening years.

Fantastic hotel in a perfect location for a great stay in Osaka. It doesn't get any better than this. Gier is a great onsen for relaxing. There is free tea and coffee and toiletries available 24 hours a day. The rooms are very well kept and the staff are very friendly. Book early, it is often fully booked for good reason. We don't want to leave here, everything is there to relax after exploring this exciting city.

Very well located hotel with rather nice room comfort: large room and comfortable bed. The staff is pleasant. The hotel has several services including an Onsen very well stocked with products. Great discovery for a night with the family.

Excellent location near the food scenes. Their rooms bigger than expected for the price we paid. Especially liked the public bath with sauna and cold plunge. It was a great choice for us visiting Osaka for the first time. Staff was friendly even walking over with us to a bike share place. Would book here again.

I recommend this hotel highly for vacationers in Osaka. The location couldn't be better - a very short walk to the excitement of Dotonbori, but just far enough away for the immediate vicinity to be quiet.
Above all, I loved the in-house onsen-style bath and sauna, open all night. When jet lag woke me up at 3AM, being able to enjoy a tranquil soak without going outside was a perfect solution. There's a 24-hour convenience store connected to the lobby too!

I really liked this hotel. Great location - right in the shopping district of Shinsaibashi about a 5-10 minute walk from the station there and also a 5 minutes walk from Namba station and the Dotombori lights.
Comfortable bed and hot powerful shower. I didn't feel like the hotel was really dated, apart from the bathrooms I guess but it was all still clean and functional. I didn't think that the bed/pillows was cheap like another reviewer mentioned.
Rooms vary, for example we stayed one night in a tiny room towards the corner of the hotel (where part of what would usually be part of the room is taken by up by emergency exit) and wi-fi wasn't great. This was one of the smallest rooms we've had during our stay in our Japan, although there are not many of them in the hotel - I would avoid if you can. It was also at the top of the building and it would feel like it would shake a bit now and then - I assume because a train or lorry would go past.
However, the second room we had was probably the biggest room we've had in a hotel in Japan and was a lot more comfortable and had great wi-fi as well as a LAN cable provided. As far as I could see the second room size is the most frequent sized room in the hotel.
Sound proofing in both rooms were good and we slept well in both.
The price we paid for both rooms was the same and with hindsight maybe we should have asked to change rooms on the first night but we didnt know that it was much smaller than other rooms in the hotel.
Staff were friendly and helpful and kindly let us leave our big bags with them while we spent one night in Koyasan as we were spending a night with them again on our return. There is no separate room to keep bags - bags are just kept in the foyer so they may not have let us leave our bags with them if we were not also checking in with them the next day. There is also lots of useful information about things to do and maps etc in the foyer which was useful.
The hotel also had an onsen, separate one for men and women which was good (better than having just one with different hours for men and women like in some hotels). They also offered free ramen at certain times of the evening and there was a useful supermarket on the ground floor too. Heaps of restaurants, shops and bars are nearby.
I thought that the hotel was good value compared to other hotels which are also in the area. I would recommend and stay here again.
