Had a 3 night stay at the Crover House Hotel last week. Unreal !

Where to start ....

When your driving into the hotel grounds, immediately we were super impressed. We were blessed with a beautiful sunny day (not that it mattered), the estate is just lovely!

On arrival into the Reception area we met an absolute gentleman (Liam) who warmly welcomed us to the Hotel. First thing you will see is hand sanitizer stations which immediately put us at ease. The staff were so friendly, warm smiles could not be nicer. All staff had visors or face masks keeping social distancing - constantly using the sanitizers.

The room was spotless, clearly was deep cleaned. Cannot fault the cleanliness.

Now the food.....it was unreal, 3 nights of different dishes all cooked to perfection. There is a reduced menu (because of Covid) however so much variety! If your a seafood chowder fan i cannot recommend it enough! My hubby had steaks 2 nights in a row because they were cooked to perfection! Kids menu was brill, chips, burgers, goujons, all gorgeous and desserts just perfect. (Kinder Bueno Cheesecake - still drooling)!

Now the grounds..... This hotel sits on the most beautiful setting surrounded by the lake "Lough Sheelin". The gardens are done to perfection, most colourful flowers. There is a fairy walk down to the lake and you can just sit there and look at the views and just chill. Got some fab pics you dont even need to be good with your camera.

If your a golfer then you will be in heaven as there is a golf course on site which is top class.

There was also a wedding on one of the days and the party had their pics taken by the lake with the sun shining made it more magical.

Finally all the staff at the hotel from Leanne at Reception with her team, and the general Manager Warren - they could not be more pleasant and accompanying.

The terrace outside is just wonderful for a glass of wine or whatever your tipple is, the sun was shining, the views unreal, it was 3 days of bliss.

Me my husband, 2 kids (8 & 10) had a ball. It was a lovely lovely staycation.

Genuinely cannot recommend this hotel enough.

We will be back!

Thanks to all the staff at the Crover House Hotel.

From the moment you enter the front door you are made to feel very welcome and the receptionist explains all the regulations they have put in place to make your stay as comfortable as possible.
Crover House Hotel have all the covid-19 requirements in place to ensure all guests and visitors are safe, yet able to enjoy their stay with as little inconvenience as possible, they leave as many doors open as possible to stop guests having to open them with their hands, they have plenty of sanitiser placed around the hotel with a bottle on each table.
We stayed for a week end and when we arrived back to our room on Saturday evening there was a laundry bag hung on our door with a change of towels, toilet roll, bag of toiletries and a bag of tea, coffee, milk and sugar such a nice touch when there is no house-keeping in place during the present climate.
In the present climate breakfast settings have to be booked, you just have to sit back and let the hotel look after you.
Food in the restaurant is excellent.
We had a very enjoyable stay and a big thanks to all the staff working in these stressful times.
We will be back to the Crover House Hotel very soon.
The hotel also has a par 3 golf course and fishing on beautiful lake sheeling and a fairy fort for the children.

Beautiful quiet scenic location, lovely hotel! The Room was a little basic but couldn't fault anything about it - it was very clean and comfortable. Staff were warm and friendly, in particular, John at the reception desk and Tracey who served us dinner both nights - nothing was an issue. Food was very good too! Dinner and breakfast were in the main ballroom which was well spaced out, hand sanitiser on all the tables and throughout the hotel felt very safe. Food was very good too!

Lucky the hotel is well signposted from miles around, as it could be hard to find without navigation help. From the history of the place located in the 'old' entrance, it is clear today's extensions to the original house have been well thought out and carefully set. The rooms have an "old yet new" feel about them, with the thick carpet adding to their comfort. The country location helps getting a nice, quiet night's sleep, when the crows decide to stop celebrating darkness! (although personally they did not prevent us from sleeping) The grounds are well utilised, with carefully tended flower beds, and making the most of the lawn area to install an extremely well designed "fairy garden" (complete with a wedding dinner in the largest 'fairy house', and resident turtles) and play area with oversized snakes-and-ladders and draughts boards. Access to boats on Lough Sheelin at the end of the lawn is a great idea, so is the short "Woodland Walk" allowing for a nice post-prandial stroll. Breakfast was classic but well prepared, copious without excess, tasty and served with a smile. An ideal place for a nice occasion.

Unfortunately our stay at Crover House was a very unpleasant one.

The hotel grounds are very beautiful with the lake and woodland walk, however this was the only appealing thing about our stay.

We upgraded to the deluxe double room prior to our stay based on the description on the hotel website stating these rooms contained 'a bath tub and pod coffee machine.' Neither of which were in the room. We were placed in a room on the bottom floor with the carpark as our 'view' ... we felt very uncomfortable leaving the blinds open due to people walking by and had to close them during the day which lead to the room being extremely dark. The room was very basic, definitely not what you would expect from a deluxe room in a 4* hotel.

To add to the disappointment our TV would not connect to any of the apps such as Netflix or Prime. In addition there was a foul smell from the tiny, basic bathroom.
We went down to the reception to ask them to look at the room to fix these issues. We were offered to move to another room, which was not a deluxe room but contained a bath and did not smell unpleasant. Not realizing how shockingly uncomfortable the bed would be we took the downgrade to escape the foul smell.

The room was just above the reception area and was extremely loud, particularly as there was live music in the bar until midnight. This was not communicated to us prior to arriving at the hotel - as we would have requested a room as far away from the music as possible.
When the music ended after midnight, staff started to hoover the halls and stairs outside our room which we could hear very clearly in the room.

The food was extremely overpriced, with a very limited menu. The chicken was bone dry with a strange texture - felt like it had been sitting in a fridge and reheated prior to serving. The wait staff were nice but unfortunately lacked experience and were not very attentive.

Upon checkout we were billed for the deluxe room although we stayed in a standard room. When this was questioned the receptionist, who in fairness was very nice and pleasant, knocked €20 off the price. We felt this price was still not justifiable for the experience we received however after a terrible night sleep we were too tired to argue further and paid this amount.

For a 4* hotel this definitely did not even remotely meet our expectations. It is more of a b&b / guest house experience rather than a hotel, but charging hotel prices.

We really regretted staying here and felt our bank holiday weekend would have been more enjoyable spent at home.

I was offered Guinness 00 , only to be told the pump was broken 2 weeks and sorry .
The starter of Fish cakes was poor fare , lettuce with a dressing( no cucumber, tomato , fresh herbs anything, just lettuce ) , a long scraping of carrot , frozen fish cakes with a crust that tasted of cooking oil burn .
Main course , lettuce with rough cut red onion , no effort. Frozen skinny chips redipped / cooked , taste of ' off ' cooking oil , full of tiny unedible overcooked chips ( French fries ) , I asked for coca cola when my food came , it was delivered 10 minutes before, going flat at it sat there .
Breeze blowing in the door , draughty , cold , waitress said front door was open .
Disappointing food for the prices.
At arrival reception said they'd ' check the room ' , yet radiator wasn't working .
New system I was told but only last guests had turned it off = reception don't check radiators .
Shower , you can't adjust water taps without getting into the bath or turn off unless in the shower .
Settled down to watch a movie , school kids for music lessons changed in the hallway beneath our room made a raucous, fire door was held open in hallway with a wooden slice .
Bar as you walk in decorated like something from the 70's decor , not cosy .
Main restaurant bar had babies crying at dinner and breakfast, no escaping noise.
Bacon only barely cooked one side , probably on a tray in the oven , juices weren't flowed off ,,bacon wasn't turned .
Lazy chefs inside I imagined.
Fried eggs like rubber Frisbees .

Netflix in room was great đź‘Ť
Beautiful views and scenery.
Staff extremely friendly and try hard .
It was more a big B&B than a hotel experience and a 2 star type spot , lacking attention to detail .
Could be great in the summer I suppose .

Just returned from yet another lovely weekend away at Crover House Hotel and it never fails to impress. The staff just can't do enough to make your stay so enjoyable.
We stayed for two nights on a B&B basis and compared to other similar hotels the price was very reasonable. Breakfast is very good and although there is currently a limited menu for lunch and dinner there is enough choice to suit most people. In fact we had two of the nicest steaks one night, they were cooked to perfection, the chowder is another classic.
The rooms are very nice, plenty of space and very well cleaned.
Another special mention to the man I believe makes this place so enjoyable, the one and only Liam. An absolute gent and a major asset to this hotel. Always ready to have a chat and tell a tale. We had a group of very loud people staying on one night we were there and Liam made sure they didn't spoil our, or anybody elses evening, he dealt with it with it in a very proffesional manner. Thank you once again Liam.
Also a mention to the golf course, although only a 9 hole track it is definitely a tough test of the short game and the greens were in magnificent condition, thumbs up to the greenkeepers.
We will definitely be back in the not too distant future. Highly recommend this hotel and all of its staff.

My Niece had her reception here on Saturday 22nd August 2020, I wasn't looking forward to it because of Covid 19. However, my mind was put at easy within 5 minutes of arriving at Reception to check in for 1 night. I had checked in on line and so the confirmation at reception/collecting the key and showed to our room was excellent. Immediately on walking in to the lobby you could see the Covid work and covid training of staff and all staff wearing masks. We were walked to the reception room by a lovely young lady with an umbrella/mask.

The wedding reception was 5+ stars, from the setting of the room, covid rules in full place, food and service.

All the staff were excellent, the best service I have experienced across the board in a long long time. Right through from arriving until we left, ye should be very proud of your service with a smile & putting me at ease from the minute I arrived to the minute I left, in these difficult times. I could see covid cleaning going on everywhere , knowing that staff have to work twice as hard due to Covid, it was worth watching them.

I worked as a Hotel Manger for 15 years and understand the stress and strains of hotel life on a normal wedding day never mind Covid strain! I complete forgot about Covid only for the rules and regulations that we have to abide by.

Please share this review with your staff, from reception to the wedding service & night porters to breakfast service.

I look forward to returning with my husband who will enjoy a round of golf. I will recommend you highly as Staycations is the new norm for all of us.

From the minute we walked in the door we were treated as if we were the only guests in the hotel (the hotel was very busy with guests/wedding/communion). All the staff, without exception were excellent and went over and above to make our stay as wonderful as possible.

The rooms were crisp, comfortable, and nicely decorated with a lovely view over the lake and surrounding countryside. The setting of the hotel is picture postcard perfect. The bathrooms were clean and modern with ample towels and toiletries.

The food in the restaurant was beautiful, as was the breakfast.

As a group of 4 novices we played a round of golf also which was an absolute treat and topped off a brilliant night away.

I have stayed in several 5 star hotels in recent years, but Crover House Hotel is in a different league. The attention to detail and customer service is phenomenal. Would I stay in this hotel again . . . ABSOLUTELY. I wouldn’t want to stay anywhere else!!

Rooms clean and comfortable.
Unfortunately few let downs. Had afternoon tea on arrival very disappointed, sandwiches felt almost frozen and chocolate cake was stale. Suggestion maybe serve pot of coffee with it and not a cup.Breakfast hot food was cold on first morning it was lovely second day.
Had evening meal food was lovely long delay for dessert when we enquired they apoligised and said order had not been placed.
Next afternoon ordered toasties again had to ask would they b much longer and was told sorry order was not put through !
Evening meal that day was lovely.
Room 116 not reommended as it was next to function room where private party with loud music was in . I asked for hall door to be closed over girl at reception apologised. 1am some person decided to play the piano in hallway. Thankfully we had no small children with us. We found staff to be polite and very young and helpful but it looked like there was no 'person in charge' hence the several mix ups. Unfortunately I will not be returning.
