Hotel Puerto Libre is located on the boardwalk in the heart of the town of San Miguel de Cozumel. All rooms have wonderful balconies overlooking the sea, allowing you to enjoy the spectacular sunsets of the Caribbean Sea. On the same land where the first tourist lodging in Cozumel operated until the 60's, today we find Puerto Libre that sustains the passion and quality of the descendants of the first owners.

Amazing Hotel it’s very new it’s not been open for too long. It’s in a great location far enough away from the touristy areas so you can have some peace and quiet but close enough to restaurants and shops so you can still enjoy your evenings out. If you’re going to stay the best room I feel it’s room 306 I had amazing views Florida ceiling windows it was spotless every day. I cannot say enough things about the staff everybody always had a smile on their face they always greeted you a lot of them greeted me by name. Everyone from the manager before I got there she was very helpful to the maintenance staff that needed to come in for a short amount of time to fix something to the staff at the snack bar the housekeeping and even Danny at the front desk who was always so helpful in answering my questions. I cannot wait to go back this is definitely my hotel choice for the foreseeable future in Cozumel!

We stayed here for 5 nights in early February. The location is great. You are at the edge of downtown San Miguel with a ton of restaurants and shops nearby. It is easy to escape the cruise ship crowds here.

In reading other reviews, we saw that the rooms on the 3rd floor had the best view, so that is what we selected (and confirmed by email). Our room had a great balcony with an unobstructed view of the ocean. The room was clean and modern with plenty of storage. It had a great king size bed, a coffee maker and small fridge. The pool area is small, but was never crowded. The staff was very nice to us.

A couple of interesting notes. There was an icemaker and purified water dispenser by the elevator. Figuring our the water was a little tricky. And you have to ask for a wash cloth for your room. Not a big deal.

We would stay here again. The best rooms appeared to be at the end of the very end of the hall.

We booked two rooms for one night and was pleasantly surprised how much value for money we got. Beautiful rooms very clean and modern with smart tvs including Netflix etc. the views and location was beautiful.
Food and drink very generous sizes. Staff are very accommodating and helpful the hotel deserves a 4 star rating at least!
Fridges are stocked with waters and has a mini freezer compartment, coffee machine also provided as well as a hairdryer in room. Air con worked really well.
If definitely recommend this hotel and would stay again

I hate to leave a bad review of any business but especially in Cozumel as we love it here and our first stay at Puerto Libre was great. Unfortunately this stay is not going well. Our safe doesn’t work. Maintenance is currently trying to fix it to no avail. There is not outlet in our bathroom making blow drying, curling, flat ironing my hair etc impossible. My husband cannot use his electric razor. There are outlets in our room but no mirror. So we cannot see to do any of those things. We asked for an extension cord and they brought one but it’s too short. We need two, or a longer cord, and we were told they cannot help us. We asked for a mirror and they also were unable to accommodate. We asked for another room but they are at capacity. We can make this work for another day or two but we’re having professional photos taken in a few days and need access to an outlet by a mirror for that day at a minimum. We have essentially been told there’s nothing they can do. For the price we paid, there’s no excuse not to have a power outlet in the bathroom or for the hotel not to provide a long enough extension cord or mirror. We are super disappointed.

Hi Melanie! Sorry for all the problems you had. The room you booked (only one available at that time) is an accesible room, so the layout of the room is different from the others. The rest of the rooms have plug and vanity mirror in the bathrooms. We really went looking for a mirror for the desk, but they don't sell it in Cozumel. We had to order it online and it didn't arrive while you were staying. Hopefully this is not a detractor for you to visit us again and get a room as you wish.

We had a wonderful stay at Hotel Puerto Libre! The location was perfect and we could get where we needed to by walking! The view of the ocean was perfect.

The staff at the front desk were welcoming every time we passed by. Maria went out of her way to interact with our baby and it made us feel at home!

The housekeeping team ensured our comfort and we noticed how much care they put into making up our babies bed.

Thank you Bernardo and Puerto Libre team for the wonderful accommodations!

The hotel offers simple rooms with balconies and direct waterfront views. It’s a typical three-star property and, for the money, is reasonably comfortable.

Breakfast was included with my room, but that’s where the hotel failed miserably. The food is pretty awful. Worse, when I asked for a coffee refill, I was told that breakfast came with ONE cup of coffee, and that there was a charge for a refill.

I’ve stayed in hotels around the world and never heard of such a ridiculous policy. After my first morning there, I went to one of the several restaurants in Cozumel that serve excellent food.

Million dollar view of the Caribbean Sea between the Island of Cozumel and the Mayan Riviera.
Close proximity to many restaurants, shops and bakeries,
Spotless room, well supplied with personal hygiene products.
Spent a wonderful afternoon in the pool (no bar, had to bring our own drinks).
Breakfast restaurant serves a very good meal.
I will recommend this hotel to friends and family.

Location is the best! We stayed two weeks just got home on the 29th, the hotel is very clean and the staff was great. We used a cab twice while there, getting to the hotel and then leaving. You can walk anywhere you wait from the hotel, If you want coffee in your room and a view you need to pay for a Superior or Deluxe room(only 3 Deluxe rooms) The pool is SMALL and cold but the view is great! Only four sunning chairs, but we did not have any problem with that, got out around 10 and done by 2. The restaurant is with the pool area, opens at 7am and closes at 1pm. We have gone to Cozumel on and off for the past 15 years and stayed a many other hotels but we would stay here again(it is new and ran very well}.

This hotel offers super nice, comfortable rooms with a lovely view of the ocean. It is located on the island's main avenue, giving you access to transportation as needed but it is conveniently located away from its busiest areas. There are great restaurants nearby! Watching the sunset from this spot on the island is amazing. Service is great and as everyone has mentioned, everything in the hotel feels brand new. You know that feeling of moving into a new home? Well, imagine that in front of the beach. Service is great too. Highly recommend it!

Lovely hotel overall, great location & friendly staff. We had an issue with two rooms, and on both occasions they couldn’t move us on the day as the hotel was full, but moved us the next day. We had two disturbed sleeps (difficult afternoon naps after diving) and moved twice, hence the average score, so don’t let the score put you off, as it might work for you if you’re not as noise sensitive. Room 109 is directly above the bar, and the balcony looks into the bar. Meant we didn’t use the balcony. If you like being in the bar etc then it’s fine. Then we had room 305 which has the extractor fan from a local restaurant directly above and that goes from late morning until 11pm (the restaurant, by the way, is excellent). Too noisy for us, but may not bother others especially if you’re out until late. Finally we moved to room 301 which didn’t have a king size bed but two doubles - but was lovely & quiet, so suited us. Overall would recommend, just check the room suits you!
