The hotel is located in the Wufengchi Scenic Area, less than 50 minutes in drive to the downtown of Taipei. The hotel uses a post-modern Zen style to combine with the childlike image of Yilan Country. Immersing in the pure hot spring, you may enjoy a broad eyesight through the French window, and overlook the extensive landscape of the Lanyang Plain while enjoying delicacies.

The resort is in a quiet location but not far from the center of the town. From check in, the reception is quick and very friendly, and there is free tea to drink in lobby while check in. The French style suite with view was great. After check in, there will be a guy take you to the room and introduce everything. Then, there will be another server coming, help making the tea. The room has a hot spring bath tub also with view. There are lots of activities to do inside the resort , also they have free shuttle take you to the city center. Inside the room the bed was very comfortable. And they have free coke and sports drink also cookies and tea bag in room. Night time, there will be live music in lobby and the bar area. The swimming pool was outside with amazing view. The public bath house is Japanese style with both indoor and outdoor area also with view. The breakfast was amazing. The check in time was 3 pm and check out at 11 am. But, if you come earlier , you can enjoy the facilities no extra charge. Also, after check out, can enjoy the facilities until 6 pm. The parking was tight if you drive a full size vehicle. In conclusion , this was an amazing resort for relax. And only an hour from Taipei.

Me and my sisters stayed in this hotel for one night only and I already start missing the staff there.
When we got in the room, the birthday decoration surprised me, they also provided a bottle of wine as a birthday treat.
All staff is so friendly and helpful. Especially the staff by the pool side, they noticed us that I wanted to do sunbathing but my sisters didn’t; so they guided us to the seats that with one seat under the sun but another was covered by the umbrella.
The restaurants there were not very remarkable though.
This is the five star hotel that I over my expectations!
Thank you for bringing me the wonderful birthday memory, Hotel Royal!

Experienced the 5star service from the moment that we stepped into the gate . The perfect handoff at the reception, the friendly staff near the entrance, the cute staff at cooking session , the sweet staffs at the recreation area , the helpful butler at comping area and every wonderful person we meet on site :
The extremely helpful personnel knew how to cheer the kids up and keep them occupied . My son was delighted and enjoyed the moment he spent. We all wish could have stayed longer .

Everything was great except the warm welcome from the mosquitos at the camping car area .

Note. My review only twists to the use of the hot spring/onsen facilities. Speaking to some guests, they seemed to like rooms.

Pluses
√ Outside spas ARE nice, clean.
√ outdoors and panoramic views
√ Good additional facilities for kids including a large recreational room
√ Mandatory degustation dinner good

Negatives
× felt like I was an imposition compared to hotel guests. Simple things like no slippers, robe or locker made disappointing first impression
× change rooms tiny, smelt, rusty and not cleaned
× mandatory dinner in restaurant faces enclosed garden, missing views and sunset

Neutral
- price was $60USD per adult keeps the numbers low and serene. Also includes dinner bundled in which makes pretty good deal.
- surprising few amenities along with spa. Would have expected sauna, steam rooms, water buckets etc
- everything (except change rooms) is unisex

My wife and I went here for Christmas 2019. Truth be told, the hotel is below average and if you want a spa experience, Jinshan is much better. Also the food is sub par.

The reason why I am writing this review is because of the shady practices of the hotel. As we were checking out, they slapped us with about $300 in USD worth of fees from the fact that we went there over Christmas and for "upgrades." The upgrades were rooms with better views that they told us were free. Also a fee for Christmas when it was not disclosed upon reservation or check in? I really see these as extremely dishonorable practices of the hotel. Because of this, I recommend that consumers take their business elsewhere.

Even outside of the dishonorable practices of the hotel, the property is not really that great for the price. Also the food is sub-par. I mean it is decent, but you will get better experiences elsewhere and for less money. I recommend the region named Jinshan if you are not familiar with Taiwan. Also Hualien is a prettier location and there are some smaller spas as well. This property has better spas than Hualien but not near as good as Jinshan.

I'm strongly to recommend to spend your time here with family on weekends or holiday. There provide a lots of activities and staff are professional with smile. Especially to enjoy the hot spring with facility in the hotel and in the room. I also love the bed in the room, it bring me to the deep sleeping quickly. This time I got a high floor of nice view room. Wow, everything is worth and comfortable here.

My husband, my daughter and I spent a very nice stay at this resort. We booked a Japanese tatami room with breakfast and dinner. Everything was gorgeous. We were driven to the resort from Taipei Railway Station. It took about an hour, going through altogether 5 tunnels. When the coach left the longest one, a view of paddy field came in front of our eyes.
When we arrived at the entrance of the resort, the staff were already waiting for us. We were brought to the reception and told that our room needed a few more minutes to be ready. We waited at the waiting area. About ten minutes later, the receptionist showed us our way to our room. When we got to our room, our luggage had arrived already. The lady told us another staff would come to make us some tea and tell us the facilities of the room and the hotel. She then boiled some water. Before long, a lady in Japanese costume arrived and made us the tea, showed us the amenities in the room and told us what we could do during the stay.
Not to waste any time, we tried to take a brief walk around the resort to find what we could do and booked the hiking trip the next morning as well as the yoga class that evening. Then we changed into the swimsuits to go to the swimming pool and the outdoor hot spring area. Before plunging into the pool, we tried the simple cooking class, making Vietnamese pancake. Simple, but fun. The indoor hot spring bath was like the ones in Japan. It was nice with good facilities.
When you book the resort, don't forget the buffet dinner. There was the freshest local food, like bamboo shoots and baby corn. The other international cuisine will not disappoint you. The dinner was just sumptuous.
In the morning, we joined the guided walk to the nearby waterfall and catholic church. It is really a refreshing way to start a day.

I don't understand the rave reviews about this property.

Overall, the hotel was a letdown. Villa 32 in Beitou is one cut above! The biggest disappointment was the hotel design. The hotel looked like a structure converted from a warehouse. Check-in area was a disaster. The bakery was the centerpiece of the lobby and it sent a message that selling pastry was far more important than checking guests in and out. Also, when I was waiting for check-in, I felt like that I was sitting in a lounge of an upscale youth hostel, not a luxurious resort hotel.

Facilities were just average for a self-claimed five-star hotel. Saunas were clean but the design lacked taste and felt very boring.

We enjoyed our stayed at this extraordinary hot spring resort hotel located at Chiaohsi, Ilan, an hour drive from Taipei city on weekdays. Especially with our Western View Rooms can overlook the villages and onward to the coastline and pacific ocean. Thanks to American Express Taiwan and Hotel Royal Chiao Hsi, so that we could double enjoyed our stay as the second night was compliment when paying the first night with American Express card that issued by AMEX Taiwan.

I stayed at this resort hotel last weekend and am delighted with everything it has to offer. Unfortunately it was raining so we couldn't enjoy the gorgeous pool and outdoor hot spring but the indoor hot spring in our room was really relaxing and the best I have experienced in Asia.Great choice of food for breakfast and dinner too, buffet style.Hotel staff were most courteous and helpful. There is a lovely reading room with a wide range of books that guests can browse for free and the architecture for the hotel building is spectacular. Would definitely stay here again next time I go to Yilan.

Not sure how crowded it is but would suggest travelers to avoid weekends and those few days near Taiwan's national holidays (10 October). The resort is on the hill and slightly away from town, travelers need to arrange transportation if they want to experience night markets in some towns nearby.

It's available every day, the cost will vary depending on time of year. Website will give you the most updated prices, but generally it's cheaper in the summer and weekdays. There isn't a time limit for the day, but you have to reserve a time for the meal. Also keep in mind that you can only enter the spa area once, not unlimited entry for the day. Dinner will also be more expensive, and for the meal there is a limit for the time that's served. For example, I think lunch ends at 2, so if you reserve at 1 you'll only have an hour.
