Nestled in a central location lauded by guests as superb, the Hotel de la Cité Carcassonne-MGallery garners accolades for its luxurious amenities and sophisticated atmosphere. While the rooms are generally well-regarded for their charm and cleanliness, some guests feel they could benefit from modernization and improved accessibility. The hotel's service is frequently commended for its attentiveness, especially during special occasions, although service delays and limited bar hours have been noted. Despite some concerns about value and additional costs, many travelers find the hotel's offerings contribute positively to their stay.

Attended a conference here in a centre next to main hotel. Location in the fortified medieval town is interesting and it is next to the main church. The old town is car-, bus- and taxi-free (you only get taken to the gates in the medieval walls), although people staying at Hotel de la Cite can use a special hotel taxi.
Good facilities: 4 rooms for ~50 people each, 3 rooms can be opened up together for a plenary session (150 people).
Entrance hall for reception desk/displays/posters.
Light refreshments were served in a marquee outside the main building. We enjoyed a lunch in the main hotel. The evening dinner for 150 was held in the conference centre turned into a restaurant.
Unisex toilets (not enough for a mainly female group).i

The Hotel de la Cite is a lovely property in the wonderful medieval city of Carcassone. My partner and I spent 3 nights there to celebrate his birthday and we had hired a car as we flew into Toulouse which is about an hour away. The hotel car park is outside the city walls, only a few hundred metres or so but the hotel has a car to take you to the hotel. We had a warm reception when we checked in, my only slight niggle was the plastic cup the welcome drink was served in, not really in keeping with a luxury hotel. Our room was fairly spacious with a huge comfortable bed and a Juliet balcony with fantastic views overlooking the ramparts and gardens. The bathroom was well appointed with a separate loo and lovely full size Clarins toiletries. Some of the furniture did look a little tired and the room could have done with a full sized mirror but the views did make up for this. The porter hadn't been on hand when we checked in so we had to carry our bags to the room which didn't bother us at all. However a few minutes after we got to the room he knocked on the door to apologise for not being around to help which I thought was a lovely gesture. Another lovely surprise was the bottle of champagne in the room on my partner's birthday.
Breakfast in the morning was a decent buffet selection and the lady who ran the breakfast service was lovely, remembering how we took our coffee each day. We had dinner in the restaurant which was a delicious tasting menu. Again the service was friendly and informative and they had a little birthday dessert at the end for us too.
My only real negative about our stay was the service or lack of, from the staff in the library bar. On the first night we ordered a couple of cocktails, but once they were brought the table the staff seemed to disappear to have a chat in a little room by the bar leaving the bar pretty much unattended. A little later we managed to grab the attention of the bar man and ordered a couple more drinks and a bottle of water. He brought the latter without a glass and a few minutes later just presented us with the bill which we hadn't asked for. Admittedly it was just before midnight but if the bar was closing anyone with a decent level of customer service would have explained the situation and checked if anything else was required not just put the bill on the table. Maybe he didn't realise we were staying at the hotel, not that that should have made a difference. Service on the next two nights was only slightly better.
On a plus, Celine on reception/concierge was brilliant, answering pre arrival questions promptly and recommending restaurants. A walking tour of the city arranged by Celine was great, can highly recommend our guide Mme Grillon, who was very informative and very enthusiastic!
One last note was that we went mid Feb and not all restaurants were open, but there were enough to choose from, and it was great to have the feeling of having the place to yourself without the summer crowds. All in all a lovely stay, the bar staff just need to step up to the same level as their colleagues.

We have just finished our wonderful weekend at the Hôtel de la Cité, we were lucky enough to stay in a “junior suite” which was up to 5 star standards, our 5 year old little boy was amazed of the room and the annexes of the establishment just like us. As soon as we entered the establishment we were immediately immersed in the world of the city, the welcome was very good and very fluid, we were able to benefit from the room before the scheduled time which is very pleasant with a little boy. The little extra was the little history of the establishment by the gentleman at reception (sorry I couldn't remember the first names). All the staff took great care of us (advice for restaurants, reservations, etc.). The hotel bar outside is also very pleasant, the drinks menu is very varied. We were not able to try the swimming pool because the weather was mixed but we were able to spend a little time there, the area was very calm and very beautiful. The breakfast is exceptional with fresh products, the staff is once again very attentive. The breakfast room is also majestic.
The parking offered by the hotel is quite affordable and really close by.
You will have understood that our weekend was exceptional, it is one of the first times that we have gone as a group of 3, always afraid that with a child he will not enjoy it, this was not the case he loved it. We would like to thank all the staff at the establishment.
We will come back without hesitation and this time we will be able to test the SPA…
We recommend this establishment! You can go there with your eyes closed.

Excellent location , food and building. Restaurant was exceptional and all staff were amazing especially aude her customer service and knowledge was beyond excellent.
Divide the driver pleasant guy who also really helped us with our luggage and bringing us to the hotel and back in the shuttle from the car park.

No normal tea and coffee only instant in rooms and no biscuits ???
Bathroom toiletries amazing but no extraction whatsoever, water went everywhere and flooded the floor and when we asked for extra towels we waited and waited for 3 hours to call back again as they had forgotten.

Spa was a big let down we booked the hotel tub €45 for 30 minutes which isn’t an issue if it had water in it half the time.

It was so hot in there no air con and after 20 mins the water was going down and it stopped as we were only given instructions to touch one button and by the the time we explained it all to the one lady staff it was time to go as she didn’t speak any English at all. 5* hotel you would expect staff to speak English to you but after I mentioned it on check they took 50% off.

I don’t bother about what it costs me in a 5* hotel otherwise if you are going to watch your Pennie’s don’t go but if you pay the going rates then at a least deliver what you are charging for.

Thanks again to aude and colleagues and chefs you were awesome

Within the city, this Pension has a garden (bar) with swimming pool and a restaurant (terrace) with magnificent views of the castle and basilica. That’s kind of his only asset unfortunately.
The buildings date from a little over a century ago and if you can find a charm (obsolete) in the building, it is different from the rooms, clearly more than old and probably in their juice of the 1960s (ambience "Logis de France" of 30 years ago). Electricity, switches and sockets, taps, narrow bathtub, tarnished marble, carpet (worn and stained), ushers/windows and handles, furniture, cupboard, air conditioning... everything is totally out of age. Not enough to fancy Raimond-Roger Trencavel but far too much for a 4 (or even 5?) star Pension, even housed in historic buildings. Staff are divided into two categories: Helpful and kind professionals experienced in the various trades and young recruits with little training and clearly little involvement in their (very seasonal?) employment in the field of service, particularly at Breakfast (friendly, good and varied otherwise).
As for the rooms described above, it is better to avoid the view of the city / alley so as not to suffer from the large and incessant noise of the space in front of the basilica (including the garbage cans dragged at midnight by the surrounding restaurants) because the soundproofing of the windows is a reflection of the chronic underinvestment suffered by this Pension.
Finally, the family rooms with "double bed and twin beds" include a not very twin bed... (foldable camp bed).
The car park and its young people are efficient but we should give the code to the guests because it supposedly guarded H24 seems closed after 10pm and the Pension did not answer the phone. Fortunately, the Pension du Donjon, which shares the car park with the Pension de la Cité, kindly passed it on to us.
In short, the hotel services are far too poor (amazing that Accor grants it its MGallery franchise...) to be compensated by the location and charm of the garden. But some guests will certainly appreciate this vintage side, but barring renovation the choice will be for me to reconsider during a next stay in this magnificent medieval / ancient city of Carcassonne.

My wife and I booked what the hotel calls a "JUNIOR SUITE" at considerable cost and explained to them my wife is disabled and needed a walk in shower. We arrived at 3:15 PM and was told the room was not ready. To cut to the chase, we met a couple from New Zealand who had asked to upgrade to a junior suite. They were given the suite we needed because they were paying more than we were at a last minute change. But the "suite" we were given had steps without a bannister to get from the bed to the bathroom which made the room impossible for my wife to use. We told them this was totally unacceptible and the New Zealand couple who we had bonded with took the room they should have gotten in the first place. But to punish us our room was not available until 6PM. We spoke to the manger about what had transpired and he said he would make it right. We were asked if we wanted a bottle of water! So in the end nothing was made right for us. Accord Hotels obviously has no consideration for people with disabilities and we warn whoever considers staying at an Accord hotel to think very carefully.

My wife and I spent three days in Carcassonne with one full day to explore the city. Friends from Bordeaux recommended Hôtel de la Cité Carcassonne as a well positioned hotel for enjoying walking in the city. Be aware that there is no parking in the city but Hôtel de la Cité does have parking nearby and will assist you in bringing up your bags. Call ahead for an address of the parking lot as NAV programs can take you down some pretty narrow streets! Walking into the hotel, you are immediately met with an incredible fragrance. We asked at the desk where the perfume was coming from and discovered that it was a fragrance especially made for the hotel. Très chic! The hotel is absolutely beautiful and luxurious down to the smallest detail. The staff are very friendly and attentive. We unfortunately were not able to book reservations in the restaurant for dinner as it was fully booked the two nights we were there, months before our hotel reservations so make sure you book early. We did include breakfast in our booking and it was super. We felt like royalty as it was served in a banquet hall fit for a king. The bar was excellent both in offerings and ambience. We opted for local Languedoc wine on the terrace as the weather was beautiful. Our room was spacious and artfully decorated. The Hôtel de la Cité provided us with an excellent stay Carcassonne. I can’t be more effusive in my evaluation and recommendation.

First time in Carcassonne, this hotel was just amazing. We splurged on a room with a terrace, which was totally magical. This hotel is located inside the ancient fortified city, so you're staying basically inside a fortified castle. You can see from the pictures.

We had a glass of wine on our terrace every night, watching the sunset over the countryside with castle towers all around us. It was crazy beautiful.

Staff was excellent. You can park your car outside the city walls, and they will take your luggage up to the hotel. Climate control was very good. Location of the hotel couldn't be better. Breakfast was great. Common areas in the hotel are beautiful.

All in all, this hotel was like a 10 out of 10, and I'd go back to Carcassonne just to stay here again. It was that memorable a stay.

The hotel in the old part of the Cité must be a jewel with its garden - in summer. The building reminds you more of Great Britain and Henry VIII than of the Middle Ages in Occitania and the dining room (there is no other way to describe the restaurant) also conveys this atmosphere. In winter, the impression is cold in every respect. The reception is professionally impersonal, there is a kettle and tea bags in the room but no mineral water, let alone a personal touch. My tip: in winter, look for something more modern, smaller in the 'new town' or outside Carcassonne and simply visit the Cité during the day. Don't forget: in January, most of the restaurants in the Cité are closed - and you don't want to eat in a Michelin-starred restaurant every day...

We so wanted to love this hotel but it really disappointed us. We’d booked a junior suite with a view but when we arrived we were given a small, dingy room with a very partial view of the bar in the garden. There was so much shrubbery near the doors and windows that you really couldn’t see much at all and this made the room very dark. When we complained we were told that there was nothing free until the following day but we could change rooms then. The following day we were shown the alternative room which was a great improvement but still had no view, however as it was much better than the old room we agreed to move. Our old room keys were taken off us and that was it we were stuck without a room until later in the afternoon when my husband kicked off and the room quickly became me available.
So overall a very tired hotel - rooms definitely aren’t 5 star.
The staff were pretty good and tried to be helpful.
The pool was small but nice to have.
The hotel was very central
The parking (off site) was great and the parking guys brilliant
We wouldn’t return to this hotel - the main reason we booked it was because of the pool but we would rather stay somewhere nicer without a pool
