We spent 2 nights at Lowerfield as we attended a wedding in the area. It’s a very impressive large house set in lovely grounds in very peaceful surroundings. Huge comfortable bedroom with fridge outside for fresh milk which is always nicer than little cartons. Friendly owners and lovely breakfasts added to the great experience.

Lets start with a couple of tiny niggles: the sink gurgles after it has empties! And my wife felt that the bathroom needed to be a little bigger (which, given the fact that this is an old house, would be hard to change!). I think we can live with those! The good things: Lovely friendly hosts, lovely location, good sized room. The room was spotless, and in a very good state of repair. It was very quiet (both in terms of not hearing other guests, and there not being any adjacent noisy roads etc. The shower was pretty new, very clean and worked perfectly, giving a good shower. Breakfast (choice of cooked or cereals etc... fill in a form the night before, and it's ready for when you come down) was good. The house is quite old, with very thick walls, and floors that are not quite level, a bit odd till you work that out! Bed made for you daily, tea / coffee / hot choc / biscuits filled up daily. We spent 3 pleasant nights here, and would certainly re-visit if we were staying in the area.

Thank you for your comprehensive review. We are delighted with the positivity of your feedback and will endeavour to allocate you the room with the larger bathroom for your next visit. Strangely, a compact bathroom with a walk in shower is preferred by some less-able guests where the openness of our larger bathrooms would be hazardous. Hence each of our rooms have slightly different characteristics and facilities so that we can generally meet any special needs of our guests. Getting the right room, of course, depends on booking early enough to have the choice!

Ended up here purely by chance. We were travelling back up to the Midlands from Cornwall, and wanted to break the journey up. Pretty well every room in Devon was booked up, but we managed to stumble upon this place. The owners were very friendly. The room was massive and ample parking. A comfortable bed, warm shower, and great breakfast. The lady took us to see the alpacas in the morning, which was a nice touch, as she didn't need to do this. The pub at the top of the village is very good, and less than 10 mins walk. Thoroughly recommend.

Banish any long-held thoughts about traditional B&B with hard-nosed seaside landladies! Lowerfields couldn’t be much further from the sea in Devon and it couldn’t be more different! It’s a fascinating, spacious snd very comfortable old building in 5 acres, run by a charming husband and wife team, with an extensive and delicious breakfast menu catering for all tastes. There are quite a few things to do, within a short drive, and it’s very likely to become a regular bolt-hole for us when the need for a chill-out arises!

We stumbled upon this wonderful B&B after a double booking elsewhere had left us without accommodation for two nights. A frantic search at 7 pm in the evening led us to Lowerfield House. We feel we really lucked out on this place. A beautiful house with wonderful countryside views and fields with all sorts of animals including Shetland ponies, alpacas, chickens, guinea fowl, ducks...I think we even saw a turkey!? The room was very comfortable, spacious, very clean, and immensely relaxing. It was peaceful and quiet which is what we had wanted. The breakfasts were superb with local produce and fresh eggs from the hens in the field next door. Steve and Sandra were delightful hosts, welcoming, warm, engaging and helpful. Nothing was too much trouble. Steve even texted us before we arrived concerned about whether we had had supper and gave us the number of the local pub if we needed to find somewhere for a meal. A lovely stay and we would highly recommend it.
