In my opinion this hotel does seem a bit dated but I have stayed in this hotel before and would like to do so again when I'm in the area . I walked from the metrocentre station, using the exit where the staff car park for the metrocentre is, with a small holdall took me just less than twenty minutes. There is a bus stop close by, at time of my visit i think the bus stop was used by bus services 6, 7, 10, 10a, 10b ,84, 941 and x47. One day I used a go north eastern bus services purple ticket, which I believe is excellent value for money to get around. I was welcomed by a lovely friendly receptionist, Christine I think, and I requested a room overlooking the railway, which she did provide me with. The trains passing by did not bother me and did not wake me. Room as mentioned earlier did look a bit dated, but was clean, tidy and a good bed and a good shower, and the staff throughout my stay were friendly and pleasant. I would have no problem staying at this hotel again, and at about £60 for two nights was excellent value, Date of stay 1st September 2020 for two nights. I believe the only down side to this hotel is no breakfast room, but I knew this at time of booking, and wasn't a problem for me, and there are plenty eating places in the metrocentre. I had a very pleasant stay at this hotel. Over the railway (there is a pedestrian access to cross the railway) there is a riverside walk to the metrocentre :-)

Travelodge at Gateshead was in need of an update I'm afraid. There were cobwebs in the room around the ceiling and picture on the wall. TV remotes up and down volume and channel buttons didn't work, despite asking for new batteries. The room faced a train track, and would therefore be fit from triple glazing to mask the noise early in the morning of the trains going by!!!
However, the reception lady, Amber, was very welcoming, brought more towels to the room without even asking. This was due to my own error in numbers of guests. The bed and pillows were comfortable. Reception area has a facility station, milk tea coffee etc.
Very easy to walk to The Metro shopping center as it is close by. There is a KFC adjacent, handy for late arrivals feeling hungry. (If you like that sort of stuff) Overall not a bad stay.

Travelodge Gateshead 16-18 February 2024.
We were given room 303 - top floor. There is a lift if you aren’t able to take the stairs.
We were given towels with a door hanger if you needed fresh towels, we put this out on the second day but this got ignored.
Upon check in Danielle was very informative regarding the surrounding areas, especially Whitley Bay.
We had some noise from nearby rooms in the early hours which disturbed our sleep a little.
Great location for the Metro Centre.
I would highly recommend the Skiff Inn for food & drinks and Brewers Fayre for breakfast.
The tv was bizarre getting the channel onto a full screen & the remote probably needed new batteries but we didn’t bother asking as we weren’t in our room for long.
I’m not sure whether the soap dispenser over the sink was working either, good job I had my own with me.
Wifi is not free, you get 30 minutes free then you need your pay £3 for 24 hours.
Great room for the price.

Overall not a bad stay for a travelodge, checked in was smooth, the security system is a bit outdated so keycards needed resetting as they keep wiping.

The carpet on the stairs and landing is a bit tired, had to speak to staff about guests smoking outside as they were not smoking tobacco- and the smell was lingering in the corridor and through open windows.

As this is a city hotel with a train line nearby there is a bit of noise as trains trundle through.

Hotel offers pizza for £10 which is reasonable, the kfc next door is open for drive through only.

The staff were a good laugh and polite, i especially think both sharon and ashleigh are excellent travelodge employees,
Nothing was to much for them to sort.
The seats in the room were hard plastic bucket seats so not that comfortable

I regularly stay at this travel lodge and always have an amazing experience. Claire at the desk is very helpful and friendly and made us feel welcomed. Leoni does an amazing job at making the rooms tidy and is always eager to make sure we are stocked up on everything such as towels etc. I’m very happy with the service I always receive on every stay here.

Better off pre-ordering your coffin, because it’s probably comfier than the single beds in the family rooms. Feels like you’re cosplaying as a hotdog when you roll over and fall down the middle of the two beds. You’ll find yourself checking the windows aren’t open every other hour because the rooms f**king freezing. In fairness, the radiator does warm the room up and you know it’s working because you feel like a chicken getting burned alive - don’t forget lip balm or you’ll be walking round the toon like momo. Most of the staff were really friendly and chatty, probably the only good thing about the place - just feel bad for them having to clean up the tear stained pillows after you break up with your boyfriend.

The Travelodge is located next to the Metro retail park and is close to major road networks, whilst at the same time being in a quiet location with the exception of the nearby railway line with frequent trains. With the windows closed noise from the trains was not disruptive.

There was adequate free parking but the large number of Transit type vans suggests a large number of occupants are there for work purposes.

Next to the hotel are a KFC outlet, a restaurant/bar and another restaurant, so there is good food choice within a 2 minute walk. A Toby, Harvester, McDonald's and a large Asda store with a café are a short drive away. They are within walking distance, but we were warned that the dedicated footpath was very muddy, and an alternative route would mean crossing busy roads, so we chose to drive.

Reception was efficient with a friendly staff member who was very helpful with directions to nearby facilities. There is a seating area with a television and tea/coffee making facilities in the reception. A toilet with adaptions for the disabled was also available. Unfortunately there was only one card key available per room.

Our room was on the top 3rd floor which could be accessed via stairs or a lift. The bedroom was clean as was all the bedding, however in the bathroom the shelf had not been cleaned, as there was a large amount of what I believe to be toothpaste smeared on it. There was also some 'toothpaste' on the door. There was a shower over a bath. Despite being on the top floor there was good water pressure for the shower. The room was equipped with a television with a teletext service. Free wi-fi is only available for 30 minutes in every 24 hours. 24 hour wi-fi is available at a £3 charge.

The bed was comfortable with additional pillows available if required. There were two chairs in the room and a kettle to make tea/coffee. There is a shaver point in the bathroom and two power sockets above the desk in the bedroom. A bottle cap opener is located at the side of the desk. Limited tea and coffee are provided in the room but these can be replenished from reception.

Having placed a 'replenish my room' sign outside the door our towels were replaced but the bed was not made, bins were not emptied and tea/coffee supplies were not replenished.

Overall, I would be happy to recommend this Travelodge and would book to stay again if visiting the area.

On arriving at the Travelodge we had a warm welcome, we chatted to reception on where to eat, the advice was give at one of the restaurants we would receive a glass of prosecco on showing our room card, this was not the case.
After I ate I returned to sleep around 10pm.
At 3am some people talking outside my door and knocked, I got up to answer they had just walked away.
Same at 5.30 am and 6.30 am talking outside my door and knocking on other doors.
When I went down stairs to check out, I told the man behind reception and he said oh well could have told the night porter!
What could he have done as I was woken 3 times.
Last time I booked a travelodge.

The staff were friendly. Location was good. The room was clean. Only issues I had were the mattress and one of the sockets in the room. The mattress was perhaps old as it was lumpy and uncomfortable. The first hairdryer I asked for would cut out after 30 seconds of use so I got another one and it did the same. I used the other socket and it worked fine so there must be an issue with that socket in the room. It was 28 degree weather but when I arrived my windows were open making sure the room was nice and cool. The sun doesn't appear to come round that side of the hotel so it stayed that way. Fan in the room but didn't need to use it.Overall the stay was good and I will no doubt stay here again.

Used this Travelodge a couple of times now, as it is handy to get to 5 mins off the A1. Also only 10 mins to city centre by car.
The staff were very polite and helpful. Room nice and clean and warm on arrival.
Just round the corner is the Skiff Inn, which does great food at very good prices!
