I stayed at this hotel for 4 nights as part of my holidays. I chose Marriott Naiyang over Renaissance Phuket as I have been to Renaissance before. Even though I was impressed with everything at Renaissance and had a wonderful time over there, this time I thought I would try something different. I can say that this was a huge mistake. I made a booking for the garden cabana room and requested for the quiet one 3 months prior to check in. Upon arrival I was assigned the first room on a corridor where all residents, both on the ground floor and the first floor, walk past (see pics). It seemed they didn’t really care about your request at all. I spoke to the Front Desk re the room change but I was told the ones that were more private were booked. So I had to suck with people chatting, shouting and kids screaming outside my room several times a day for my entire holidays. On a positive note, the room was clean, the bed was super comfy, and the cabana itself was pretty to look at. It lacks of privacy though as it being surrounded by other guest rooms (see pics). I mean If you don’t mind being watched by other guests, you would find the cabana room perfect. All their garden cabana rooms have access to the extended pool, connecting to the main one at the beach. It should be noted that the pool is 0.9 m depth so it’s probably more for children rather than adults to swim in. The location of the hotel is pretty isolated - takes around 10 minutes to drive to the main road from the airport and around 50 mins to the Central shopping centre and the city. The beach is very shallow and huge - requires probably around 5 mins walk to the sea especially during the low tide. Sitting on the beach and you barely hear the waves. What you will hear instead is drilling and banging noises from a massive construction site next to the hotel (I did record how loud and annoying it was but unfortunately attaching video clips is not allow on TA). The annoyingly loud noises lasted all day, everyday (even weekends), until around 5:30pm. The noise was seriously disturbing and it was audible ANYWHERE in the hotel, except inside the guest rooms. There is no way ones can chill out and relax peacefully on the beach. At this point, I realised my holiday was ruined and I did regret choosing this hotel really. But that wasn’t all. Service wise, All the staff I met were very polite and friendly. However they apparently lack the skills to rectify situations and are not able to handle requests and complaints from clients professionally. On a simple term, they listen to your needs/complaints but do not do anything to resolve the issues you have. Being polite and friendly alone but inefficient in their roles or solving issues doesn’t make the property 5 starred. During the breakfast each morning, there was a “bacon issue” - they couldn’t manage to replenish the bacon to accommodate the busy breakfast. I visited the bacon station 3 times and there were none left every time (see pics). The problem was they didn’t cook enough! Don’t understand why they didn’t cook more and put it on a bigger plate. Each time the bacon was replenished it could be served for a maximum of approximately 5 people (or less if one takes much). The more concerning issue with their breakfast was a lack of proper COVID-19 preventive measures. The breakfast was a self-service buffet style but there were no gloves whatsoever for the guests to use when using tongs. I saw some of the tongs were place directly on the food (see pics)! No alcohol gel/spray provided for the guests in the breakfast area - only at the reception counter where the staff are stationed. Some guests didn’t wear a face mask (or didn’t were properly) when leaving their tables and even chatted to staff over the buffet line! It was shocking that no staff seemed to care about this at all. I did suggest to one of the waitresses re the disposable groves but was told that they normally provided but they might have forgotten that day. The next 2 mornings, everything was still the same - no groves, some guests didn’t wear a mask and no staff seemed to take this seriously. I would be no surprise if the outbreak reoccurs here as the hotel didn’t really take the measures seriously. And the breakfast was packed each morning! The food served at the Big Fish restaurant was mediocre. This was probably due to my taste preference though. I did comment to the waitress but her response implied that they cater foreigners taste. Taking the beef burger, for example, it was a very dry burger with just a lightly spread of mayo on the buns (I didn’t even notice this layer tbh if she didn’t tell me) with no other sauces. Their pork cordon bleu was too salty with no other tastes. I mentioned this to the waitress but again, she apologised and that was it. No further action was done or offered. When it comes to the check out, I requested a late check out as my flight was at 7pm. I was told upon check in that I might have to switch to another room on the check out date as my cabana room needed to be prepared for the next guests, which was totally understandable and I had no problem with this. However on the day before checking out I was told that my check out time was 12pm - no late check out was allowed anymore. Fine, up to this point I was already fed up with them and didn’t feel like staying at this hotel any longer anyway. Overall my first time experience with Phuket Marriott Naiyang Beach was terrible. I mean their staff were nice and friendly, but lacked of professionalism and showed no attempt to accommodate your needs and comments. The beach was not nice especially during low tide. Loud construction noises everywhere in the hotel all day everyday made it impossible to read or relax on the beach, or even at the cabana. Food was not palatable. The hotel didn’t have proper COVID-19 prevention measures and the staff didn’t seem to care much about it. I will definitely not return to this hotel and will certainly not recommend this place to anyone looking for a real 5-star hotel in Phuket. Look somewhere else,t there are many better options out there - Renaissance, InterContinental, or perhaps other Marriott hotels but not here, unless you don’t mind having your holidays ruined.

Had a wonderful 2 night stay. This is our family's third visit in two years. We see many familiar faces of staff from JW Marriott Phuket. I want to give special shout-out to Bank the recreation/sports/fitness staff whom I have known for many years since his days at JW Marriott. He is a gem. Bank is always eager to ensure a fun experience for guests. He is friendly, always remembers me by name, and is eager to help with anything be it in the gym for equipments or on the beach for water sports. He took many great photos of me trying paddle boarding for the first time. Bank exemplifies what service excellence is. I also want to give a shout out to the check in staff on my first day of arrival (March 10 at noon). I cannot remember her name but as I travel with elderly parents my parents cannot climb the stairs to the third floor where the two bedroom suite is and we were upgraded to the villa which is stunning. I am Lifetime Titanium Bonvoy member and truly appreciate that the check in staff recognizes that status and the service I receive was excellent. A final shout out to the bartender in the evening at Big Fish where we dined both nights. I cannot remember his name but he came from M Club Blue Bar at the JW Marriott and recognizes us as we usually spend a month at JW Phuket every year. He happily greeted us and we were happy to see him. He mixes excellent cocktails and the one I drank twice was Bai Jai. A must try! The food at Big Fish is very delicious especially the grilled chicken. The caesar salad with grilled chicken was good too. We felt no need to leave the property for food during our three day stay. Can't wait to return to the property again sometime this year.
