A serene and exotic destination with 5star treatment. Loved everything about it and so much more! The décor, the food & excursions that pay hommage to our local culture and community, the warm and amazing team & the little details in every nook & corner! #veryhappycustomer:-)
The most extraordinary experience I’ve ever had. The accommodations were incredible, the food was Michelin caliber and the staff was amazing. Small touches such as a cookie and candy bar, coffee tasting, transporting you from the restaurant to your room in a golf cart with a hot water bottle nestled inside a blanket, neck massages after our gorilla trek…..the list goes on and on. I’ve travelled to over 80 countries and stayed at 6 star destinations. This is simply the finest property I have ever stayed at.
Excellent in every regard. We loved it. The food, atmosphere, people, and rooms, were beyond expectation. We have traveled quite a bit, and find this property and its staff to be one of the most special places we have ever stayed. And don't forget the gorillas. It was all a dream
We stayed here for only two nights in July on a trip to Volcanoes National Park for gorilla trekking, but they were two wonderful nights. We arrived just before dinner on the first night and there was a slight mixup with our reservation. Instead of the booked two bedroom Forest Lodge, we ended up with two separate rooms but it all worked out in the end. The two rooms ended up being a Forest Lodge king and a Virunga Suite. The suite was amazing and had lots of little touches to put it over the top. My husband ended up taking the single room, leaving my teenage daughter and I to enjoy the luxurious suite. The staff were all extremely attentive, beginning with Tee, the manager who sorted out the room miscommunication. He was always cheerful and ready to help in any way needed. Apple was another staff member who went above and beyond for us. She was happy to chat and give us suggestions about things to do at our next stop in Nyungwe. And then there is Teddy, who has been mentioned in other reviews. She did a coffee tasting session with my husband and gave my daughter and I a short, guided walk of the gardens, which are simply amazing. She also does a pre-trek briefing the night before in the lounge to prepare people for the gorilla treks. The only area that we found slightly disappointing was the dining options. Dinner the first night was in the main dining area and while the food was good, it did not overwhelm. The second night we opted to do room service and again found it to be okay, but not great. However, the staff did provide a nice surprise that night for my husband, whose birthday was the next day. Under the guise of coming back to pick up the dirty dishes (Jennifer from Food & Bev called ahead on this), they brought a lovely chocolate cake with a candle and sang happy birthday to him. For those of you going on gorilla treks, the staff has a great handle on this. There is a large to go breakfast spread laid out. You can either snack on something there while waiting to be picked up for your trek or take it to go. There were also lots of lunch items to take with you as well since the treks may last several hours. They will also provide gaiters for the trek if you want them, and they are highly recommended. Upon returning from your trek, they will take your dirty hiking boots and return them to you looking brand new. We would not hesitate to stay here again on a return trip to Volcanoes National Park. The tranquility of the gardens and the energy of the staff are a nice combination. The rooms are lovely enough that you almost do not want to leave them, instead taking in the luxury of it all. I only wish we had been able to stay a bit longer.…
This was an exceptional location from the fauna and flora to the hospitable people and beautiful design and architecture of the hotel. The dining experience was excellent with very good service. I would recommend Gorilla's Nest anytime. Perfect base for trekking into the forest to see the gorillas!
