Fantastic meal in The George tonight, stunning Red Thai Muscles. Atmosphere was incredible. The fire was lit and the food was fantastic. Food was served in a timely manor and was of excellent quality. Thank you so much George team.
When you’re going ‘out out’ for a meal for the first time in 18 months, expectations of any venue are high; when it’s for a birthday meal, the jeopardy meter goes off the scale. But there are no worries if your chosen venue isf The George at Kirton Lindsey; venue, ambiance, and quality of food couldn’t be faulted. Eat in the relaxed bar or the cosy, dark-walled restaurant, both with open fires which were welcome on a chilly autumn evening, and service is of equally high standard. The menu isn't vast, but it doesn't need to be, because the options are varied, appetising, and all cooked to order with an obvious passion. The tortellini would have had any TV cookery show reviewer waxing lyrical about how it was packed with flavour, and we understand there's secret ingredient in the gravy served with the steak pie, brimming with its succulent beef. (I hope you're reading this, Chef). And in this age of pre-prepared food, it was clear that the chips had arrived in the kitchen as potatoes, and been transformed on the premises. Two mains and drinks came to about £30, which is stunning value. In a similar venue in a big city the price would have been twice that or more. What's more, arrive between 5 and 6pm, and you can order two mains for £16. For a birthday, that's a gift. We'll be back.…
pros: cheap, so decent value ; bathroom modern with good plumbing (but tiny); staff friendly and helpful cons: bedroom and general surroundings need an upgrade; accommodation very small; stairs tricky food OK but not great : chef trying a bit too hard to be different no private car-park but free parking in square in front of hotel Overall a three star plus, maybe
Visited for a 3 night stay. We received the great welcome. Very clean rooms. The food is amazing. All freshly cooked. Full range of breakfast from cereals, toast to a ful English, all done to order Would definitely recommend.
Really good value at £80. Decent clean room. Friendly staff and an excellent cooked breakfast, at 6.50am as we were leaving early. Parking easy in the square outside. Dinner was OK if not exceptional served hot by helpful staff. A great contrast to the Palace in Buxton where we stayed the next night.
