We booked one of the cottages but were upgraded to the larger house when we got there, which was a nice surprise. The house was spacious and clean with a well-equipped kitchen, but no soap or shampoo was provided in the bathrooms. This was the only place in Iceland we stayed in that didn’t offer that. The weather was terribly windy so we didn’t use the hot tub or spend a lot of time exploring the historic grounds but they looked very interesting.

Hótel Skálholt is a gem on the Golden Circle. The location is perfect for a Golden Circle tour, only a short drive from the major attractions such as Geysir hotspring, Gullfoss waterfall and Thingvellir Nationa park. The hotel is set in a retro style building right next to a beautiful Cathedral, which is worth visiting. The restaurant is amazing with creative and delicious dishes. The service is friendly and personal.

The restaurant in the hotel is fabulous. The chef makes delicious creative dishes with wonderful flavors. He makes a meat/seafood dish and a vegan dish every night. The chef and his staff are very personable. We ate at Hovhn two successive evenings. Highly recommend that you partake of the culinary delights offered by this restaurant.

We stayed here for 1 night whilst touring the ring road. The amenities in the hotel are fine but definitely not worth the price tag in our opinion. We had a double room and clearly the rooms are not set up for this as the dial to the radiator was right by my head, which was quite dangerous and had to wrap it up in a towel to prevent me from injuring myself. The room itself was basic and looks to need some TLC. We paid extra for breakfast which again we didn’t think was worth it. A small selection of cereals, cold meats and cheese and some bread, which was a lot less than the other hotels we had stayed at offered - a hot breakfast offering would have been nice. We would not stay here again but it’s fine for an overnight pit stop for somewhere to rest your head.

An excellent place for meetings, sightseeing, and nature admiration - and with a magnificent cathedral and incredible history! The restaurant is great, and customer service excellent. We had an academic workshop at this location, and it proved to be very functional. The hotel also organised a minibus for our transports. Hot pools in a nearby village offered a perfect high point for the meeting.

Hotel Skalholt is placed in beautiful, picturesque setting and run by the friendliest host I have ever encountered, Gigi. Gigi welcomed our group of 5 into 3 well-appointed rooms at the last minute, after our booking at another local hotel fell-through. When we arrived Higi showed us to our rooms and gave us a tour of her beautiful property. She has been working hard to design and crest a space for tired travelers to unwind. Surrounding this hotel there is an adorable indoor restaurant a beautiful church, grass-topped cabin, and nature for miles (or Meters). Thank you to Gigi and her staff for the amazing hospitality and accomodating our last-minute 3 room request. Our stay with you was a highlight of our Iceland Adventure!

Hotel Skalholt is under new management by GG and her cousin (previously run by a church). GG was very responsive to emails and messages before the trip and during our stay. Because we were traveling in the shoulder season, the main hotel did not have guests booked. We booked a cottage that is a short drive from the main hotel. The cottage is spacious with 2 bedrooms, a large bathroom, a kitchen, a dining area, and a living area. The hot tub was hot and a perfect escape to relax away the day of hiking. The radiators were not working in the first cottage we drove to, and GG immediately drove over to try and fix the problem. Unfortunately a plumber was not available at that time of night, so she moved us to another cottage, which was just as pretty as the first. The cottages are set back from the main roads in tree stands and are very peaceful with a view of the graceful farmlands on the hills. The hotel offers a breakfast buffet in the morning with the most delicious homemade bread and spreads. The restaurant area is like a greenhouse with its glass panes and beautiful greenery inside. The staff are very friendly. There is a church on the grounds that is worth the visit.

The location is good, its in middle of Biskupstungur. Quiet rooms and the living rooms are relaxing. The CEO came personally with ice bucket for our soda, fruit and cheese. Breakfast was good, we got everything we wanted, top worth for our money, thanks a bunch!

Hvönn restaurant catered our group dinners while we were in Skalholt and our meals were delicious! Their fresh bread, butter and homemade sauerkraut combined with a classic fish casserole were incredible: flavorful, well balanced, filling. A salad on the side with local, geothermally grown tomatoes and cucumbers was perfect. If I’m lucky enough to return to Iceland I’ll definitely come back to Hvönn

We loved the food and we will be back! The space is wonderful, the chef is very inventive and the director is an awesome friendly lady! Next to the restaurant there is this beautiful church with a small museum.
