Detailed Reviews
Stayed 5 nights in the Zane Grey condos across the highway from the main complex. This was our 2nd stay here, with the first being 2.5 years ago. The property and service has improved since. The 3 BR, 3 bath units were perfect for our family of 5. The view was great off the back overlooking the private dock on the canal side (Atlantic side). Another family in our group stayed in an adjacent unit, so we could easily meet up and hang out. We rented a boat for the week and could easily keep at the dock right behind our unit during our stay. The location is perfect as it is directly in the middle of the Keys with short drives to Islamorada, Marathon or even Key West or Key Largo. Many boat rentals and fishing charters are available close by. There is also a dock on the bay side for easy access to the complex. When not out on the water in our boat, Lime Tree provides free access to kayaks, SUPs and bikes. There is a sandy beach area on the main bay side, where you can access the water in many spots. But, like most places in the keys, it is not a typical beach, so you have to navigate rocks, bay grass, etc.. to get in. The beach area is filled with palm trees with several hammocks and many beach chairs, picnic tables and grills for guests use. The complex does sit right on the highway, but once you are on the back side of any of the units, the grounds are well maintained and provide a very tropical and relaxing atmosphere. There are great sunset views on the main, bay side as well. Service was great and the new "touchless" text system was a plus as they sent daily reminders asking if you needed anything. If you did, they were very quick to fulfill. Check-in/check-out was quick and easy as well. Breakfast is included for your entire party and the text ordering system worked very well. A menu is provided and you texted your order for pickup every morning. The quality was pretty good as well (especially the egg frittata). My only complaint is that the NEW main pool was not completed even though we were assured it would be before our arrival. And the old main pool was closed for maintenance. However, there was a smaller pool on our side next to our unit, so it was not a big problem. Also, we did have to cross the busy highway every time we picked up breakfast or visited the on-site bar/grill. In short, this is by no means a "luxury" resort, but the service, accommodations and location made it a great value really perfect for our families needs. We will return again.

Lime Tree Bay Resort has it’s pluses and minuses. The room was lovely with colorful tropical decor. We enjoyed using the kayaks and if we had stayed longer we would have opted to ride the bikes. We were very disappointed that the pool was closed. Management offered the use of a pool at their sister property which was across a busy highway. We decided to skip the trek. The bay had much seaweed floating in it so it was only good for wading. The sandy beach setting was perfect for watching the sun go down. There is a good little restaurant/bar next door and they provided the delicious breakfast that you ordered the night before. Lime Tree is in an area that is somewhat isolated so you need to drive to other restaurants. Lime Tree has potential to be a great little resort with a cleaned up beach area and better amenities but too they need to lower their rates.

I read the reviews ahead of time and saw that it had four stars , which I don’t think is accurate. At least as of current . We stayed in unit 7 of the canal condos. We booked 4.5 months in advance and requested to be near my parents and sister (they also booked the same type of unit at the same time). When we arrived, we checked in and noticed that the washer was out of order. Also, we were not adjacent at all. They were in condo number 2. There was a laminated sign on the washer so it had clearly been this way prior to our arrival but never were we flagged of this. When I made the front desk aware that this was an issue since we have a family of five and we’re fishing daily, we were essentially told that the part has been ordered but it’s the keys so no telling when it would arrive. We were told that the owner was manning the grill due to short staffing and unavailable . We requested another unit on three occasions, and were told that that was not possible as they were already booked. Please note that during our stay at least two other families checked in on either side of us so this was not true. The dishwasher didn’t work. The icemaker and water dispenser on the refrigerator didn’t work. The kitchen had very little in the way of dishes and things to cook with. We actually combined two rooms worth of dishes/pots/silverware to try to make it work but it was difficult with how little there was available. The floors on all three levels are tile and they were pretty dirty when we arrived. We actually had to make a rule that you have to wear shoes at all times otherwise the bottom of your feet would be black. The pool on the canal side by us was not heated, and clearly had a leak because they would refill it every morning. Ironically that actually helped us a little because it was noticeably more clean than the main pool on the resort side of the road. The main pool got progressively dirtier over the week.
Pros: The beds were comfy. They do have complementary bikes/kayaks/paddle boards and a nice area to utilize them. They also have life-size chess and corn hole and a very small man made beach on the main resort side that was nice to sit out and watch the sunset.
We ultimately ran out of clothes and ended up checking out an entire day early. I did notify the front desk and no concession was offered to reimburse us for the day that we couldn’t stay. Interestingly they called my dad after we notified them that we were checking out to try to understand why we were leaving, but we had communicated with them the entire time our concerns.
The bottom line is, if you are looking for a family vacation spot, this might not be the best fit for you. If you are a group of fisherman on a fishing trip, then this is a great spot to go with talking very close to your room on the canal side. At a price tag of $2,600 for the week, You can definitely stay at Hawks Cay a few miles up the road for very little more and much more in the way of cleanliness and amenities.

We booked a 7 night stay here at $280.00 per night & expected a comfortable room with moderate service due to COVID protocols in place. The management pretended to care by sending daily texts inquiring about our comfort & promising to fix anything “immediately”, but that never happened. Our room appeared to have just been renovated & renovation was incomplete, as there were no towel bars or hooks in bathroom & no place to place soap & shampoo in shower ( other than on floor). Room was sparsely furnished as well. We were told to place wet towels & trash outside daily & that towels would be replaced, but they never were unless we made multiple requests for them. Our “supplied” kitchenette consisted of 1 large plate, 1 small plate, 2 bowls, 5 large spoons & 1 fork. It was quite cold the day we arrived & heat didn’t work, & maintenance man said it was dependent upon another unit in building that would need to be using it as well. He did bring us a portable heater fan, which was sufficient. We were unable to call in food orders to adjacent (affiliated?) restaurant as their phone lines had been down for weeks, they said, so we had to go there to order food & then either wait for it or return for it, as it was crowded with maskless patrons. The sargassum on the shoreline was never cleaned up (as other resorts regularly do) so if we wanted to sit on our balcony the air was heavy with the smell of rotten eggs.. At the end of our stay the manager said she would offer us a small refund, but it’s been a week now & she hasn’t responded to either text or email. The setting was nice & with minor improvements this would be a desirable location for a Keys vacation, however, we would not recommend nor will we return.

We checked in on Sunday February 28th. The staff is not welcoming or friendly. We checked in and she handed us a slip to fill out for the free breakfast and said return it before 9pm. We get to our town house which was nice and big. We immediately seen the floor in kitchen was wet from water leaking from fridge. I called the desk to let them know and they said maintenance would be over to fix it. No one ever came so a towel sat in front of fridge so we didn’t slip and fall. The master bedroom shower had no hot water at all to the shower. The bed was so broken down and completely uncomfortable. Our friends stayed in the room across from ours and they said the bed was like sleeping in a taco. They both just rolled to the middle because it was broke down so bad. The floors were disgusting no one had swept or mopped before we came. The tables were dusty as well. The free breakfast is just ok and you have to walk across the busy highway to receive your order and wait in a line. My friend was yelled at for ordering extra stuff. He figured he’d get some extra stuff so we didn’t have to walk over there every day. I’ve never stayed somewhere that monitors how much breakfast you eat or take. The server lets you know you need to leave a tip to pick up your bagged free breakfast. I have no problem tipping but having a crap attitude and telling people they have to tip is in bad taste. Whenever you call or text to let them know you are unhappy it takes forever for them to respond and no one comes to fix or make things right. The pools are dirty and yes their is a nasty egg smell. We also asked for extra towels and the front desk was annoyed and didn’t want to give us more. This place is not cheap to stay here but their service and amenities definitely don’t live up to the cost.

I had stayed here one night about 5 years ago and wanted to go back since then. When our cruise was canceled, my husband and I decided we would go since we already had flights to FL. Other than the section of sand between the pool and dock being unusable because of the new pool being built it was as I remembered. Beautiful views and very relaxing!
We would spend time in a hammock in the morning and evening. Pool was a good temperature and not usually crowded. If there were a lot of people we would just hang in the hammock for a while and wait for some people to leave. We heard the pool across the street was closed so that may have made it a little busier.
I feel like most people that give negative reviews because there isn't much around are unfair because they obviously didn't do their research.
I would not totally rely on the breakfast provided as it wasn't consistent and the frittata was not customizable. In that instance we were glad we had a kitchenette and had breakfast things available. I would say that was the one thing we were disappointed in.
They allow you to do everything by text which was really nice. Any issues or questions you could text. Check-in and waivers for the kayaks/paddle boards/bicycles were all by text also.
They said there was no daily cleaning due to covid but ours was cleaned each day but the first day.
They are constantly working on things outside, sweeping patios, picking up dead leaves, etc. There was construction noise from the new pool and renovating one of the rooms but it was during the day and didn't affect our stay. I searched everywhere for pics of the new pool going in so I have added one.
We were very happy with our stay and are already planning a return trip!

We contacted and booked directly. We requested a room with a full size refrig since we were going offshore fishing for the entire day. Upon arrival, the room was clean but refrid was basically a college dorm type with a smaller than microwave freezer. We asked and what we had was what they had as the full size. However, they asked that we could use their freezer which was nice touch.
We stayed 5 nights and the room was only cleaned after the 3rd day. They did supply towels and coffee as needed. The cleaning was not done until nearly 5-6 PM where we believe rooms are cleaned after 11 am checkout.
The breakfast was continental and you had to order by 10 pm the previous evening. Pickup in a bag started at 730 and ended at 945. We recognized what continental meant but we tried various combos and danish, breads and pastries seemed past use by dates. The breakfast staff were nice and some rude. One day we were told that they did not have cheerios and I asked what was available and response was "get over it" Not something I would consider hospitality!
They only had one pool open and that was small and limited seating. It was clean and well kept which was a plus.
Overall, this will not be our first choice when we come back to the area which is every year. Pls note this is spring break timing and when we booked about 2 months ago, most of our preferred places could not fit our 5 night stay.

Our cruise departing from Tampa was cancelled due to the Coronavirus, but we were already in Florida (we are from Michigan). We rented a car and decided to drive to the Keys to spend our week there. We found the Lime Tree Bay Resort and booked 2 nights initially, thinking we would then travel further south to Key West for a few nights. We ended up staying at the Lime Tree Bay Resort the entire week...actually...until they shut down the resorts on the Keys! This place was like paradise! We had a Premium Waterfront Room w/ King Bed & Kitchenette, and our balcony included the view of 2 palm trees and the Gulf! Sunsets were amazing...in fact, when we first checked in, it was 10 minutes before sunset. We went to the room, watched the sunset, and went directly back to the office to extend our stay for another night. Then each day, we would extend our stay another night! It was so relaxing! They have kayaks, paddleboards, bikes, beach activities, tennis rackets to borrow (free of charge), ping pong table, corn hole, giant chess, and the staff members were all so nice. If you can't have a nice time here, not sure where you will be happy! We did take a walk to the other properties off of the main area, and not sure I'd want to stay there since you have to cross the street to get to breakfast and any other activities (especially after having the room we had), but this place is amazing. The food at the Florida Boy (restaurant/bar on site) was delicious. There aren't really other restaurants around, so you will need to travel a few miles to other restaurants, but there is a convenience store in walking distance.
We definitely plan to return!

I will definitely go back. What an amazing location! Everything in the keys is a little bit funky and lime tree is no exception. Great place to relax and unwind while enjoying some simple snorkeling. Perfect location for me since it was my first ever ocean experience. Right at the resort we saw cow fish, manta Ray, sting ray, lobsters, needle fish and tons of other small sea life. While using the kayaks one morning a pod of dolphins went right under our boat in about 4 feet of water. We were totally blown away. The water is so unexpectedly warm and clear. Overall an amazing outdoor experience. Now to the accommodations. Rooms are only cleaned every 3rd day however we were there for 7 days and our room was only cleaned once. The continental breakfast is a total joke and the staff made us feel that we were putting them out. Being in the food industry I was blown away at how inefficient and ridiculous their system was. If you have a room with a kitchen bring your own breakfast. Florida Boy restaurant makes delicious food but once again the service is underwhelming. Frannie is abrasive and rude and the bartenders are too. We had one very friendly waitress named Millie on the first day but tried to avoid the place after that. It’s a real shame since they have a virtual gold mine with a captive audience. They genuinely seem to resent tourism. Overall I would definitely go back but with different expectations next time. The keys are a bit dirty and the people who live there are not friendly. Everything seems so shabby. Me and my husband luckily are happy to be left alone so kind of perfect for us 😂. Check out Better Than Most snorkeling trips out of banana bay resort in marathon. Awesome experience with them!

We stayed 8 days. It was absolutely perfect. We stayed in the Seagrape suite with our teenage children. It was big enough for everyone to spread out, beds were comfortable and it was very clean. The staff came in secretly every day cleaned the bathrooms, changed the towels and the garage and even did the dishes we left one day because we left in a hurry to go exploring. We went to a few different beaches and the resort beach was actually the best of them all the water was clean, clear and warm perfect for snorkeling which my husband and kids did for hours it was great not having to travel around to other beaches. The staff were all very friendly and I loved the daily texts from Yesi D. She checked in everyday to see if we needed anything and always addressed our needs immediately. The Florida Boys Restaurant on the resort had great food and drinks at very reasonable prices and Franny the waitress was a delight and very friendly and entertaining. We only wish we had booked for a longer stay and next time we will. I highly recommend this Resort if you appreciate a down home no nonsense relaxing vacation!

Hello. I am the GM of Lime Tree.. I have only seen the dock full of boats during Mini Lobster..The rest of the year there is one boat
occasionally. I suggest you call and speak to the Front Desk Team and let them know what you are planning. The draft is pretty shallow so we don't take boats over 19 '. I hope this is helpful.
