Pine Cliffs Resort offers stunning seaside views and easy access to Falesia Beach, which guests have consistently lauded. The hotel's charm, with its beautiful Portuguese tiles and impeccable cleanliness, receives high marks from visitors.
Despite the spacious and well-appointed rooms, some guests mention that the decor could use an update and noise can be an issue. While the extensive amenities are a hit, especially for families, reviewers warn that the food and services may not live up to the 5-star price point, with experiences of both attentive and unresponsive service.

We really enjoyed our stay at Pine Cliffs. All staff are very friendly and accommodating. Be sure to make reservations at the Japanese restaurant (Yakuza) and steakhouse (Piri Piri) in advance as we were not able to get into either within a two day notice. We also could not get into O’Pescador with a request for a reservation on the same day. We did have dinner at Mare on the water and the food was very well prepared. We had the sea bass and vegetables. We had numerous meals at the Corda Cafe, especially since we were not able to get into some of the other restaurants. The food was very flavorful and well prepared. The Aperol spritz drink is fantastic there and served in a very large glass. Make sure to have a glass of champagne at Mirador as the view alone is worth it. Breakfast offered with the room rate was varied and efficient. Omelet station, fresh fruit and bread, pastries, yogurt, smoke salmon, and a variety of hot foods such as scrambled eggs and sausage links. As far as the towels, we thought the towel hut was very efficient and a good idea - we had no issue with it and don’t understand prior complaints about this process. The staff was also disinfecting all beach chairs regularly which we appreciated. The room toiletries are Byredo which is a luxury brand, and a neutral scent was offered. Our room was great with an ocean view (the duplex suite). It was clean and spacious and everything accommodating relative to covid-19. The decor is consistent with Portugal so I don’t understand prior complaints. We would rather stay in a place that is inspired by the country we are visiting as you can get a “typical” room with no character anywhere. Thank you to all Pine Cliffs hotel staff for a wonderful vacation.

This hotel is fabulous. So clean and friendly staff who all speak great english and french. The rooms are well equipped with towels, bathrobes and the room is quite big with a very modern bathroom. The breakfast is just perfect, with everything you need and the garden is so well kept and the little path taking you down to the beautiful beach is fantastic. The gym and the swimmingpool are clean. We had a great stay here. I very much appreciate the cleaniness and the friendly staff.

A lot to digest? Read an AI-generated summary of recent traveller reviews.
We spent 12 nights in Pinecliffs at the end of June / start of July. The resort is beautiful and extremely well kept and spotless. Facilities are great. We stayed in the townhouses near the entrance and the location was ideal as it was just a short walk to the supermarket for provisions as well as short walks to various pools, restaurants and gym. Our house was quite dated and a bit dark and drab in comparison to the house our friends stayed in. I understand that these are privately owned and it’s down to the owners to decorate so maybe it’s just the luck of the draw. The cleaners were amazing and we loved constantly having fresh towels etc.
We arrived late at night and would have appreciated a small welcome pack in the house. There wasn’t as much as a bottle of water for us. Everywhere else we have ever stayed there is usually water, a little tea / coffee to get you started and even more in some places. I brought this up with the resort in an email after and I was told we booked self catering and could have ordered a hamper if we wanted stuff provided. That’s not what we were looking for. We were perfectly happy to go shopping the next morning. Sometimes it’s the little touches that make all the difference. There are no little touches in Pinecliffs unless you pay for them and it’s very noticeable we felt.
From our first night, areas in the resort were closed for private events, weddings etc. No problem until the morning of the 29th/30th June when a cleaner handed us a letter saying due to a private function certain areas were being closed off to residents for 5 days effective immediately and with no notice. We were very disappointed that this included the pool our children liked best as well as the large garden area and the Champagne Bar which we then never got to visit. Upon speaking to staff at reception we were recommended to go to the Ocean Suites pool. It was quieter but nice and we enjoyed the pool bar there. The next day we returned and waited for the pool bar to open again as our kids loved to get a fruit juice daily. It never opened. We looked and it seemed there were no staff available to come take orders. It seems all the staff were taken to serve the private function and even though we were paying customers, the services and facilities we had paid for were not available to us. We feel we had paid full price for access to the whole resort yet large areas and facilities were closed to us for over 5 days and we were treated as second class citizens in order to prioritise the corporate clients.
As I said earlier the resort is beautiful and very well kept. The cleaners do an incredible job and were very nice. Personally, I liked the gym and found it excellent. The staff in Corda Cafe were very nice and great with kids. We ate in Steak Piri Piri our 2nd night but found it excessively expensive for an average quality meal.
In short, not what we expected from a 5 star resort which is a pity after waiting nearly 3 years to finally get there.

Dear 714karenp, First of all we would like to express our gratitude for the time taken to share with us your experience at the Pine Cliffs Resort. We are grateful for your comments in regards to the beauty of our resort and how well kept the grounds are. Plus, your kind mentioning of our hardworking housekeping team and our colleagues at the Corda-Cafe restaurant. Please be assured that all our guests’ comments are of extreme importance to the running of our operation. Your feedback has been since shared with our Management. As previously mentioned, we do truly hope that you will grant us another opportunity to welcome you back to our resort and please if so, do not hesitate to contact the Guest Relations Team directly so we can properly assist you and make sure that you have a more memorable experience. There is a lot of potential, but a lot to be gained. It's presenting it self as top notch. But I have stayed in similar priced hotels, like Puente Romano in Marbella. The rooms should contain a filled minibar, there is very few night entertainment, for example a band or singer, way too few places in the restaurants in high season. Standing in a 20 minute line for breakfast is a shame, some restaurants you need to reserve 1 week upfront, no menu card at the champagne bar, which has the most beautiful location. Getting 12 to 18 Euro cocktails served in plastic glass is okay for an all-inclusive resort, but not for a place as this. The outside swimming pools are not heated and are f... cold even in hot August.
Now for the positive the location, views, availability of beds are perfect. Service of personel and staff is great. Very friendly. Beds and rooms are great. Wifi is pretty decent, but to pay 150 Euro for an elite WiFi package is so 2010. With the loss of roaming costs WiFi should be great anyway.
Great place, but work to be done.

Our second trip to Pine Cliffs has been another lovely family holiday. It’s difficult to sum it up as it is a solids 5* experience and the standard of the hospitality is excellent. However, some of the accommodation is a little rustic.
We stayed in a 2 bed villa in the ‘village’ area so we could have sleeping space for the children separate to our sleeping and living area. Whilst a little dated (dark tiles and dark wood), the kitchen is modernised and there is modern air conditioning in all the rooms. A useful brick bbq in the patio area and decent garden furniture was a real plus. Also, mosquito net shutters, normal shutters and solid double glazing in all the windows. So all in all, very comfortable. Also, impeccably clean.
Landscaping across the resort is stunning and there is so much shaded area under the beautiful pine trees. Never feels crowded and there is not much sun bed reserving going on, thank goodness - who does that?!
Beach is pristine and quiet and there is the lovely hotel beach front restaurant (only open in the evenings in high season). Most of the other restaurants were pricey (as one might expect for the ease of eating in comfortable surroundings on a 5* resort) but the quality is very good, for the most part. There are plenty of pools and they never feel crowded. Staff are generally very friendly and make a fuss of the children, which is a nice touch when you worry your children could otherwise prove an annoyance to others!
We don’t usually return to the same hotels, but I think we are likely to come back for a third time.

This has been my 15th year at Pine Cliffs and the reason I (we) keep coming back is the attention to detail in making sure their guests have an enjoyable stay, well they did it again.
Amid threats of closure and restrictions caused by the dangers of Covid 19 virus, the management put into practice many things to dampen the fears of the guests by placing numerous sanitizer units around the resort and controlling the flow of people in public areas, together with all of the reception staff and restaurant service personnel wearing protective gloves and face masks. Unfortunately the Portuguese authorities made the final decision of closing the golf course/Driving Ranges and all surrounding restaurants and bars making it very difficult to train and entertain our 27 German golfers.
The hotel director organized room service and breakfast boxes for all our guests and made their stay to the very last day very enjoyable.
Many of our guests who were staying in the main hotel were offered another room in numerous villas outside of the main building in case the main building was closed down.
The clubhouse staff were exceptionally friendly and obliging during these difficult days and never lost their smile (Special mention goes to Luis, Tila, Victor, Antonio and Angela: Thank you for making our stay once again very enjoyable.)
Our special Golfunlimited trainings week is made all the more successful when the Hotel management and its staff ensure that everything runs smoothly.
One thing is for sure.......we WILL be coming back for our 16th anniversary (Corona Virus permitting)
I would have given 5stars but for the weather but that was not the hotels fault.

Overbooking in the property, which can’t cater to its overflow of guests, means cueing at best or worst simply being asked to use facilities outside the hotel.
No seats or umbrellas are available by the beach or the pool. Waiting in a cue for 15 minutes to finally be seated in an overcrowded cheap looking room for breakfast, no parking available upon arrival at the property…
At best a 2 star service in an otherwise 5 star location, charging 5 star prices.
The staff is doing its very best but management leaves them powerless.

Poor experience overall definitely not 5 Star ! 3 star maybe
So on booking we asked for a high floor quiet room and mentioned one important food allergy. At check in we assigned a low floor room that was incredibly noisy and the food allergy wasn’t noted.
We asked to move and were told they had no other rooms. The room had a dripping shower , broken phone and a dirty sofa. A call to our travel agent immediately result in a move to a quiet room on higher floor !!
We booked half board - breakfast and dinner only to find that it applies to one buffet restaurant for dinner and two for breakfast, to eat at any other resort restaurants meant you had a credit of 45 euro each which given the ridiculous prices at the restaurants wouldn’t get you a decent main course .
A small lunchtime sandwich and two non alcoholic drinks was over 50 euro !
Majority of staff not helpful and avoided eye contact , one or two exceptions but in general poor.
Beech or pool towels are strictly issued one each only no exceptions !! Not very 5 star !!
To book one of the hotel’s restaurants you have to go online and enter your credit card info each time you book despite reception having copies of the card !! Again not very 5 star
The one restaurant that was part of the half board was a buffet about 10 minutes away by hotel shuttle
I suspect this resort is trading on its previous reputation perhaps ?
The location and grounds are lovely
The beech is ok but be prepared to be in tightly packed Sun lounger rows unless you want to pay a premium to sit on the front row !
Overall really bad value and non existent customer service sadly

Dear JCRDublin, Thank you so much for taking the time to give your feedback on your recent stay with us. We are sad to know that we were not able to meet your overall expectations during your time with us. Please note that we have tried our best to assign you an accommodation that corresponds to your expectations, however we can never guarantee the room allocation. Nevertheless, we are pleased that in the end, we managed to arrange a solution that suits you the best. Moreover, as mentioned, we have two continental breakfast buffet and one dinner buffet. For the guests who have Half Board booked and wish to enjoy the rest of the restaurants, we also give a 45€ credit per adult. Kindly allow us to inform you that our pricing policies are considered and aligned with the regional luxury market in the Algarve. Regardless, please know we have noted all your feedback which will be shared with our management team for their review. Contrary to your impressions, we do emphasize and care about the well-being of our guests, investing heavily in training our associates to provide first class customer care to make sure that our guests leave us feeling that they have received exceptional service. While we are positive that our team had no intention of appearing careless, we would like to apologize for any inconvenience caused. Furthermore, allow us to explain that the Pine Cliffs App allows our guests to make direct dinner reservation at our outlets. However, this platform is not connected to the registered Credit Cards that we have in the system. In this sense, we regret that you have found it to be inconvenient. This policy was implemented to guarantee dinner reservations for those who wish to dine at our restaurants. Lastly, your comments in regards of our location and grounds has been taken with great appreciation. We would certainly love to have an opportunity to host you back and show you that we can do much better. Warm regards, Guest Relations Team

Unfortunately this is an over crowded greedy hotel. I have never been to a 5* resort where people have to sit on towels near the pool or on the beach as there is not enough beds or umbrellas. The sunbeds are a huge problem here, to really top things off they want you to pay 90 euros for a sunbed on the front row at the beach and about 120 for the four posters beds.
The second biggest problem after sunbeds is breakfast, an absolute shambles. It "opens" at 7:30am which is late for breakfast to open especially when you have a trip or early flight. They cannot even get it open for this time, the waiters are there but nobody is to serve you. The eggs station queues were often in excess of 20-30mins. The hotel has signs up in reception advising on the busy times at breakfast which shows they clearly know its a problem so why not open another breakfast buffet restaurant?!
The service is poor all round and two examples are: we asked to use the phone at the beach restaurant to call the concierge and were met with: "as we are not busy i will do you this really big favor just this once". How dare we ask a 5* hotel to use their internal telephone line. And at breakfast we were seated (after a 15 min wait) to be greeted by a waiter with "why are you sitting here" hmmm let me think why i could be sat here...
The service is poor but not as poor as the attitude of the hotel when you complain. Its a real shame as the actual property is nice and could be a great hotel. It is worth noting the beach is a 15min walk away from the hotel. If you are staying here there is a few restaurants outside the front gates (the italian is a nice cheap eat) and an uber into Vilamoura is 10 euros so worth the trip. I would recommend News restaurant and Salmora.

Dear Jake A, We would like to begin by thanking you for taking the time to write your candid impressions regarding your last stay with us. After reading your review, which has deserved our best attention, we are sorry to hear that we missed the mark on your recent stay with us. Despite this, we would like to clarify the following aspect. Due to the current situation, we were lead to make adjustments to our operation, according to the health authorities, which affected our guests' experience, especially in the queues at the restaurants and lack of sunbeds either at the beach or at the pools. In this sense, and for all this, we would like to present our most sincere apologies. The times we are living are of constant change and adaptation to the “new normality”, so we appreciate your best understanding if some aspects of your stay were not so positive. However, we assure you that we will continue to working to improve the gaps and we hope, in a next opportunity, to be able to change your impression about our resort. Best regards, Guest Relations Team

Visited here for a week , end of October for a chilled Pre winter break
We were fortunate to have 5 glorious full days of hot sunshine out of the 7.
The resort is truly beautiful with scenery straight off a picture postcard.
scenery is spectacular with the dramatic cliffs and pine trees backing the ocean. Many fabulous photo opportunities here and if the sky is clear the sunsets from the champagne bar are to die for
Those who enjoy walking will love the twisting paths that wind through the resort surrounded by pine trees with the backdrop of the ocean and cliffs.
The resort is huge with literally loads of pools and grassed areas for sun loungers, no shortage of space here to relax and chill out. Ideal for those with children
Our apartment was beautiful, decorated beautifully and kept spotless by housekeeping every day. We had 2 bedroom garden suite with 2 bathrooms and it’s own garden leading to pool. Can’t find any faults with it at all
Getting to the beach if you aren’t fit could be a trial. The resort is perched amongst high cliffs and whilst a lift can take you part of the way down there are still lots of steps to navigate after the lift. Getting down is one thing but getting back would be extremely difficult for elderly or those with any slight mobility issues. Pity there isn’t a lift all the way to the beach
Lots of very nice eateries including a lovely beach bar for lunch time snacks with amazing ocean views
We tended to eat off resort most nights as food and drink prices are very high, £4 for a coke, £4 small coffee £20 for a coffee and 2 pastries etc. Everything here is very expensive to the point of being extortionate really. Don’t mind paying a premium but they are making a killing from guests who have already paid a premium to stay there. We didn’t allow this to detract from our enjoyment though and all I would say is either take plenty of spending money or explore out of resort where you will find much cheaper options
Those who like to golf, the course is beautiful with some amazing views but again you will pay premium prices to golf
Champagne bar at sunset is an absolute must, photo opportunities are aplenty, however at £20 a glass you probably won’t want to stay till late!
Overall it’s a beautiful resort and yes, I would recommend despite the hiked up prices on resort
Beautiful peaceful clean resort attracting nice clientele

I don't remember a kiddy pool with a slide but every one of the pools is packed to the brim with noisy kids so almost every pool is the kiddies pool. This place is so huge and busy I think there is about 8-10 pools in total. They give you a map when you get there
Hi
We actually flew into Faro airport and as part of our vacation package a coach took us to Pine Cliffs.
I think Lisbon airport is some distance from the south coast.
Hi
Yes indeed there is. Directly outside the front of the hotel there are a couple of places to eat but we only had drinks there. If you head right once leaving the hotel from the main entrance there are several options. We ate twice around there and both meals were very nice and good value.
We were only there 3 nights.
The day we arrived our room wasnt quite ready so we went down to the hotels bar on the beach while. I forget what it was called. We just had a couple of chicken wraps and beer/wine etc
I thought it was poor value for money. It wasnt expensive comparing to UK prices but compared to quality and prices outside the hotel it was. When you go down the lift onto the beach where the said bar is, to the right you can see another almost identical bar around 400 Metres which is where we went for a day time tipple and maybe a sandwhich.
Have a great time, Its a great hotel. Breakfast was totally fine by the way.
It would make sense if you could but they never offered.
We booked with JET2 and it was an option with them.
We tend to only eat twice a day on holiday, and like to wander out of the grounds.
Of coursef your looking to fly and flop and just enjoy the hotel grounds I can see why you would.
