Stopped for a couple of beers with wife. Most of the tables on the terrace were available, but needed wiping. Some still needed to be cleared up i.e. used plates and glasses. Oddly, the waitresses were not busy with anything else. Grubby place, slow and inefficient service. Will not go back.
I was looking for a quiet budget hotel for a one-night stop over in the area and this place ticked all of the boxes. I arrived after midnight, after reception had closed but the key, instructions and wifi code were left out for me. Small, basic but clean room looking out over a meadow opposite. The girl at the front desk was extremely helpful, spoke good English and ended up serving me breakfast and sorting out my taxi. The hotel is a 2 minute walk to a small beach. I visited in off season so the hotel was quiet and was only aware of a few other guests, but all in all it was a very relaxed setting. Tip: some mild insect repellent might come in useful if you want to sleep with the windows open.
We arrived and of course knew this place would not be a 5* fancy hotel, but what we found here was below any standard. The room was dirty, and absolutely worn-out. The bed had one of those old spiral bases, that made so much noise only by sitting on it. I would never let guests sleep on that. The bathroom was not clean, and also in worn-out state with a lot of rust and sticky tiles. When we asked for a room with a decent bed, there was one other room available. Again the same worn-out state, lack of cleanliness with a thick layer of stickiness in the shower. On entering the room a bad smell of cat urine was present. Unfortunately there were no other options and it was dark and late. As the hotel is in the middle of nowhere, we could not do anything else than sleep and solve this the next morning with the owner, as the receptionist agreed with the smell but could not help us further. The next morning I requested to checkout as we did not want to stay another 3 nights in this hotel. I said I am happy to pay for the night we stayed but not for the 3 remaining nights. What happend next was like a bad movie. The owner didn't agree on anything we said, shouted at me, calling me things not to repeat here. When I asked to speak to the receptionist that confirmed the cat urine smell, and she indeed confirmed. The receptionist was very helpful and was about to give us back the money (she had it in her hands already) when the owner started screaming at her and insisted she shouldn't. Then the owner shouted he called the police on us all while I was just being calm and reasonable and asked for a resolution. The receptionist told us: "We have people wanting to cancel all the time after they have checked in because it is not what they expected. If we would give everyone who wanted to cancel their money back we would be out of business." The staff started screaming at each other that this is bad for their businessSo be warned: this hostal has absolutely no standards of quality, cleanliness, comfort and specifically hospitality. I have never been treated with so much disrespect anywhere in the world. Absolutely disgusting. Stay Away.…
In general is not bad. Lovely pool to chill if you are lazy like us. However, I would advice to bring enough 'mosquito spray with you, as they are mad around there!!! We were a bit unlucky as we had a room that was leaking in the ceiling with water when our upstairs neighbour showers and where the room is situated, you have a personal alarm clock of banging noise... not sure was it the water pump or the kitchen kicking it off in the morning. Not really what you are looking for in the morning, especially if you are going to in the middle of nowhere for the quietness....
Booked a table for an early lunch on our last day. Didn't open until 1 pm but they allowed us to order beforehand. Were seated in the outside shaded area which was perfect for us. Four of us had the vegetarian paella which was absolutely enormous (well enough to feed six). It was delicious and very filling. Hubby had the Grouper Fish which he claimed was excellent. Mustn't forget to mention the Aoili which looked like it was pureed garlic, but very yummy. Service was a little slow but this is a restaurant to take your time and enjoy the good food that is served there. Make sure you stop by the chiringuito about 100 metres up the road on the beachfront. They do a mean mojito there for €6
