One of the first resorts in Seychelles, the 4-star Coral Strand Smart Choice was opened in 1972. The resort immediately won the hearts of locals and tourists, becoming an integral part of the island life. Coral Strand Smart Choice is located on the North West of Mahe Island, on the famous Beau Vallon beach, which stretches for several kilometers along Beau Vallon Bay. Fine sand, small waves and stunning sunsets make this beach truly special, like no other on the island. The resort is a great starting point for exploring Mahe Island and its main attractions: Morne Seychellois National Park, Marine Reserve, Botanical Garden and the capital of Seychelles - Victoria. It takes only 25 minutes by car to get from Seychelles International Airport to the hotel. The simple and uncluttered design of our guest rooms invites you to unwind after an active day spent outdoors. Coral Strand Smart Choice offers 164 guest rooms furnished with king-size or twin beds with the option of connecting rooms, all equipped with flat-screen TV with international TV channels, Wi-Fi, individual air-conditioning, shower, hairdryer and bathroom amenities. Guests can choose between a mountain view, which offers a breathtaking tropical landscape, or a spectacular view of the Indian Ocean. Start your day with an ocean view breakfast at Island Trader Restaurant. Dine at our gourmet Mahek Restaurant, servicing authentic Indian cuisine, or visit Coral Asia Restaurant, renowned for the best sushi and sashimi in the Seychelles. Our Ocean Deck Bar offers the best sunset views over the ocean. Indulge in tropical cocktails, local beers and the famous Coral Cheese Burger by the Chef. Seychelles is one of the most romantic destinations in the world, where the most beautiful weddings take place. This is also one of the places where the ceremony is held with the issuance of an official marriage certificate, recognized in most countries of the world. Coral Strand Smart Choice has great experience in hosting wedding ceremonies, including the organization of welcome cocktails, receptions, banquets or just a romantic dinner for two.

A fantastic and memorable stay!! (British couple, 30 years old) After reading a few reviews this hotel really surprised us! Me and my partner are quite active and wanted a nice hotel that wasn’t overly expensive, as we weren’t planning to spend everyday at the pool/beach. However on the days we did spend at the beach/pool it was lovely thanks to the friendly staff! Special and massive shout out to this amazing team… Shivraj the manager and the bar staff.. Wellem, Jovan, Hari, Denilson, xx Monica xx, Ezra, Jessica, Shareen and Lovely!! These people made our stay so special and we’re always pleased to see us!! thank you very much!! Pool was a lovely temp and although the pool beds are limited they are comfy. (I did get up early about 7/7:30am to get our towels on the bed ASAP!) The service by the pool and bar was very good, the staff are so friendly and really made us feel special! Coral Strand hotel has the best beach front out of all of the hotels along that beach! It was always clean, always enough beds, stunning sunset if your lucky enough with the weather! Me and partner walked along this beach everyday it was beautiful! The hotel put on a special do on the beach I is night with cocktails music and food.. they posted our invitation through the door. That was a nice touch! Thank you! Breakfast was good, omelette station, bacon, beans, pancakes, waffles, fruit, porridge, yoghurt, breads and pastries etc. Brewed coffee and tea, no cappuccinos/lattes included! Food recommendations for lunch at the pool.. chicken shawarma wrap and fries was my fav, chicken club sandwich, bbq chicken wings and pizzas are very good! We didn’t eat dinner at hotel as we opted for breakfast only. Rooms…We had the ocean view room which was lovely, could hear the sea waves crash every night. The room was clean and comfy with a balcony looking straight at the sea! Coral strand really pulled the stops out on our last day, we had a late flight at like 23:50hrs, they kindly let us take a late check out as we missed our first night (due to our flight being cancelled in UK) thank you.. this really helped! Other places nearby worth mentioning… The beach shak (if your looking out of the hotel at the sea, it’s to the far right of the beach) a great place for cocktails, fresh bbq food, really lovely during day and a proper vibe in the evening! La Perle Noir, we visited this place for dinner twice!! Had the prawn pasta one evening and the steak in Roquefort sauce the other evening. Highly recommended Italian place! Eden Island for dinner was lovely at La Scale, pricey but the prawn and fish curry was unreal. Anse Major Hike was fab, got your heart rate up with great views and a stunning beach to dip in afterwards to cool off! Another special shout out to these people who we also met briefly but who were also very kind and lovely to us: Clement, Angelica HK and Debra! Thanks for a great stay, we will definitely be back!

Family lunch at the Coral Strand Hotel, Ocean Deck Bar. Not staying in the hotel but long-term visitors with a home on Mahe. The Hotel and Ocean Deck Bar are located right on the beach, overlooking the Indian Ocean with Silhouette and North Islands in view. Service was excellent and especially from our two waitresses, Ezra and Shaheen. What a breath of fresh air after other venues where staff are often casual, disinterested and sometime just unfriendly. These two members of staff were quick, efficient friendly and chatty - a credit to the Hotel. As a result, we had a thoroughly enjoyable lunch. Highly recommended.

we chose this hotel because of its location and found out that this is the best choise that could have made. yes the hotel is old and may need an update, but everything else there is so good. rooms and hotel fecilities are clean and neat. we stayed in 2 rooms - 1 huge room for a couple and a child + 1 standatd spacious enough room for a couple. both with sea view balcony which was so great! breakfast was tasty, fresh, clean, with wide selection of food to choose from. the staff is very friendly and helpfull, they are very attentive to every request and handle everything within minutes. and again - the hotel location is just perfect - close to everything! we had a wonderfull experience and would definitely choose this hotel again if we come back to Seychelles!

At first, I was hesitant to book on this hotel but I am so happy and didn't regret staying in Coral Strand. We reached the hotel around 9AM in the morning and we were welcomed at the reception by Ahmed and Annielle with their smile. We are surprised that they have given a complimentary breakfast to us since we don' t have access yet to the buffet breakfast. The room assigned to us is amazingly beautiful and in front of the beach view. In contrary of the reviews I have read, the rooms are comfortable and we really enjoyed our stay here. There is a lot of options on their buffet breakfast and relaxing every morning to eat in front of the ocean view. All staff we encoutered was very hospitable to name few are Ezra, Jessica, Sherene, Carla and more.. ( the staffs who prepare the omelette and crepe/ waffle) . I found Coral Strand to be inviting and downright classic because of the location. It is so close to the other spots in Beau Vallon where you can have a walk. Our first time in Seychelles was so great because of the lovely and friendly staff we met and making sure we were comfortable. We will definitely stay here again when we come back! Room 327, at the evening you will hear the sound of the waves but it was music in our ears!

The location of the hotel is amazing. Beau Vallon is a truly wonderful beach, and if the weather is kind you will see sunset setting across the water by Silhouette island. The hotel is right on the beach, it is wonderful to walk along of an evening, the sand is soft, water warm. The hotel however is as basic as can be. We weren't sure whether to stay here, Barjaya or the Savoy. At the time of booking reviews were similar for all 3 and this was a touch cheaper. As we were staying on cerf island previously at a pricer place and this hotel apparently had access to the savoy we went for it. If we made the decision again we wouldn't. The reviews of the 3 resorts although appear similar are very misleading - likely due to the customers who happen the book and their expectations. The resort its self is very small, the pool is far too deep and unappealing even in the heat. The Savoy hotel and Barjaya have much nicer pools and much nicer layouts around the pool, There is very few beds around the pool at Coral strand & even fewer with shade, most people are on the beach (no shade) as a result. Both other two hotels you have more choice. Can you actually have access to the savoy amenities from coral strand, well you aren't told this by coral strand staff, we felt like we were sneaking in on the day we used their pool - we took our own personalised towels so didn't really put it to the test if we would be sent out with coral strand towels. We tried to use their beach beds one day as it was further along and were told we couldn't. If you want to use the restaurants or bars in the other hotels you can if you pay. Service at coral strand .... I would go so far to say there wasn't any customer service it was so poor. When you arrive don't expect to have access to your room before 3 even if they say to keep checking back. They forget who you are. No welcome drink - no real welcome at all. When we were given our keys we were told dinner is at 7 end of conversation. We assumed ok their must be information in the room - don't expect that, there isn't a single information sheet in the room. So we had no idea when breakfast was, how to contact reception from our room, how we might book excursion, about other restaurants, key information like snorkeling etc. Having come from Cerf island resort where we were given welcome drinks, a tour of the resort, key information about food timings, payments, excursions, water sports etc etc it was a bit of a shock. Room is basic and the 'big balcony' is small. This didn't really matter to us though as we spent our time out and about. Food The food is good but the service is a joke, it is like a canteen. On half board you only have the main resturant/canteen included. There is no discount on other restaurants such as the pizza bar and Indian - which appears not to be the case at the nearby hotels which either are included or have discounts from what we could tell. You turn up and given you room number and they tick it off on a hand written bit of paper you then go in to find your own table. We once had staff running around checking everyone's room number. From then you can go the whole meal without a member of staff coming over to ask if you want a drink. They will take plates without even talking to you - sometimes even taking plates while you are still eating from it. At dinner no drinks are included, but should you be lucky enough to order a drink how do you pay - well when we went to the front desk to pay as no one came over we were run after like we were doing a runner. The drinks are very expensive at dinner, it is cheaper to have a coke than water. There is not always a live cooking plate at dinner - maybe twice a week. For breakfast omelette and crepes. There is no service with a smile though, you are really ignored by the person doing crepes. Once there was a spillage I asked for help clearing and the staff were so confused. In the end I had to do it. It would be nice to have staff by the station at dinner as the hot plates are a bit to high for me at 5ft 3 and struggle to lean to pull them up. Often desert plates ran out, milk jugs at breakfast were almost never available - we had to pour milk into our coffee from a bowl most mornings. My observation was the staff had just never had customer service training, including whoever was running the floor. It appeared to be a lack of knowledge of what a restaurant should be run like & how to interact with customers rather than them not working hard. (front desk on the other hand they have so many staff standing around I'm not sure they are working hard) Cleanliness The room was fine, the pool shower area however was ridiculous. With most beds on the beach the use of showers to clean feet were highly used to try and keep the area clean... but they were only rinsed once a day so the shower try was filled with sand and therefore the whole outside area was covered in sand... so inevitably you will walk sand into your room. It is such a simple task to rinse the shower and the surrounding tiles when needed yet it clearly has never occurred to the staff to do it. Water sports. The hotel have no kayaks or paddle boards, a small thing that would go a long way. They did have 1 kayak in a cupboard though that no one could use?? No information was available about snorkeling even though there is a key snorkel spot further down the beach. At 22 weeks pregnant with the windy seas we didn't brave it enough to have a good go at it. But with more information maybe we we would have. Fisherman's cover hotel website has a really good information leaflet on their website - maybe Coral strand could take a look and do something similar Excursions Some guy Rocky advertises on a board a few activities - but how it works is you see the advert and you call him yourself. He did like a hat making thing which was just embarrassing as he sat their and made them with no one looking - why as their was no set up. He was in a random corner no sign, no seats to sit and engage. If Coral strand want to do this he should have a desk for people to meet him. And area to do demonstrations with signage and seats for customers to get involved. We would have wanted to but it was just too awkward. And that goes for other excursion too we asked the guy who took our bags to our room about booking excursions and he said yeah come talk to me - it seemed more like a thing on the side he would do. There was no excursions booking desk, no information on key excursions. Weather information Many hotels in places like this would have weather information for each day - especially as we were there during high winds. nothing like this was advertised. (BTW August this year has had awful weather, mostly cloudy skys and very windy, wavy) Guests Mostly Russian, some French. We are English and didn't meet anyone else from the UK all week. Room 124 - ground floor by the bar. Staff actually left a trolley outside our room that we had to climb over to get out - we couldn't move it as we couldn't reach the handle. They then woke us up before 7 screaming outside as they of loading things the next morning. When I complained we were moved to a first floor room. We were told to be packed up and our stuff would be move while we were out for the day (we left at 12) by 4pm....... We it wasn't and we were put off and off until 6:30pm our time was wasted as our stuff was packed up we couldn't do what we planned when we got back...There was never any apology for the delays, it was as if I was the inconvenience. I have written a lot here. My intention is maybe management actually looking at training their staff, go and see how other hotels are run and make some real changes that will make what is a basic hotel an enjoyable experience for customers. Some other top tips as you won't get them from Coral strand: -the bus is 12 rupees to take it - you can see online the details for the bus journeys. -Go to Victoria, see the markets, the clock tower and the botanical gardens -Go to Marie Antoinette restaurant - it is really good - in Victoria -Take the bus to the start of the Anse Major hike to the beach really lovely views -Moyenne island has to be done to see the tortoises - we did this from Cerf island though Finally don't waste your money buying drinks from Coral strand walk up the beach to the boat house and the beach shack - really great bars both within 10 minutes I hope people find this helpful.

The hotel is very run down. After 1 day, the shower broke, the tiles in the corridor are falling off and you are afraid to walk. The ladies at the reception desk seem to be forced to work. Most do not help, they do grace with help. Food quite good and lots of choice. Clean rooms and only the waiters and the cleaning crew deserve a high rating. There are no sunbeds at the beach and pool. Never again this hotel.

The location was great on the beach. Great sandy beach with amazing sunset. The breakfast buffet was also nice, with fresh fruit every day. Unfortunately every day they lacked clean towels in the hotel room, and for the beach/pool area. We had to use our shower-towels for the beach, and cross our fingers we had a clean towel to shower later on. There were too few sunbeds. If you showered too late (after 5pm) there was no hot water left. The internet was very poor. The staff in the restaurant and beach bar were great and friendly. Some of the ones in the reception were not friendly unfortunately. We will not be back to this hotel as it was very expensive compared to what you get. But we thank the lovely cleaning- and bar/restaurant staff for a very friendly stay.

Huge shout out to all the friendly staff starting from Amisha and Naomi at reception to the waitors at the beach bar and at Mahek (particularly Dannison) – everyone has been so kind and friendly. I was a little skeptical about going after some negative reviews about the service on tripadvisor but I am glad I went here anyway. The hotel is old and dated HOWEVER it is perfectly on the beach. Get a sea view room and you will not regret it. I have stayed here before and I keep coming back for more. Simple and no fuss hotel on the beach. Beau Vallon beach is beautiful, and nothing beats having a chilled bear at the beach bar overlooking the sea and hearing the waves. I stayed alone this time but it was still amazing in terms of great service and nice place to walk around, explore a little and do a day trip if you have time. Definitely dine at mahek and try the spa at Savoy Seychelles around the corner from Coral Strand (a little pricy but good if you wants some peace and quiet). There is also a beach volley court right outside the hotel which was def a bonus for me.
